cruise just shortened

Recommended Posts

Omg... Just got an email.. My cruise tomorrow on the Anthem had an emergency and now we aren't leaving tomorrow at 4, but Sunday night at 11pm... Now only one day in Bermuda...We can get some refund (partial ) or cancel.  I think I should cancel... I'm thinking, Rain Sunday night (Bayonne)

, late, no view of leaving,,, possible extra speed to make up time, so not smooth , and a lot less time in Bermuda. When I go away, a lot of planning (due to responsibilites at home) goes into my trips... I'm exhausted before I begin, and now I'm thinking it's not worth it..It's really only 2 full days at sea and a 9-8 day in Bermuda, which I'm assuming by the time we get off the ship and the time needed to get back on the ship cuts that down even more..     ugh, anyone have this happen before?

We are on the same cruise and this is a first for us..  we decided to just fly in as planned. They are paying up to $250 for a hotel so we are spending 2 days in NYC.. and we get a refund on the cruise and 25% towards next cruise.  It's annoying since it is our first trip to Bermuda, but make the best of it..

Yep, In the port of Galveston which is known for Fog in the winter months I sat in port after boarding for 2 days before the ship could leave.  Missed a port completely and one other severely cut short. Go on the cruise take the cruise refund/credit and enjoy yourself.

For those of us who travel for a living there is no such thing as everything going perfect, not even vacations.

Hope this helps. Things to do this weekend in NYC:

Put on your dancing shoes for a parade

Saturday, May 18
Flatiron
The New York Dance Parade kicks off from 21st Street and Broadway features over eighty types of dance -- including tango, square dance, and “waacking” (that’s a little bit like Vogueing, if you were wondering) -- in a joyous, colorful march that weaves its way down 8th street to its destination: DanceFest at Tompkins Square Park. DanceFest has five stages, performances and lessons, so wear your yoga pants and come prepared to learn a few new moves.
Cost: Free

See what can get fried at a Manhattan food festival

Saturday, May 18 - Sunday, May 19
Hell’s Kitchen
The streets between 42nd and 57th are filled with the smell of smoke and oil from gyro carts, empanada stands, and donut shops at the 9th Avenue International Food Festival. Come hungry and without a destination in mind: The crowd’s shoulder to shoulder, but that’s easily forgotten while sipping a cold beer as you walk down the street. Pause to take in some live music, then follow your nose to the fried Oreos, Kobe beef hot dogs, and bacon-topped cocktails.
Cost: Free to enter, but bring cash for street food

Let an Urban Park Ranger teach you how to canoe

Sunday, May 19
Harlem
OK, so it’s not the Delaware Water Gap, but you really can row a canoe in the still waters of Central Park. Plus, it’s way easier to get brunch after! Trained Park Rangers will teach you the how-tos of canoeing (oars in, oars out, etc.) in the glassy pond of the Harlem Meer at 110th Street. Get there early if you want to score a spot, and plan for a quick safety lesson before they let you out on the open water.
Cost: Free

Raise a glass of Dornish red to 'Game of Thrones'

Sunday, May 19
Williamsburg
This Sunday marks the series finale of Game of Thrones -- and eight years since the show’s premiere. In that time, babies have been born, your friends have probably gotten married and divorced, and George R.R. Martin still hasn’t finished those goddamn books. Whether you’re a fan or just want to watch a bunch of grownups lose their shit over a show about dragons, head to Our Wicked Lady, where they’ll be screening the finale on their rooftop. Speaking of Our Wicked Lady... who will be sitting on the Iron Throne come Monday?!
Cost: Free to enter, nightly drink specials

We had this done to us, kind of, and it happened with 48 hr notice.  We  got 50% refund, and 250 OBC pp.  We went anyway and the ship sailed at full capacity.    Ours was an issue with a hurricane barreling down.  We hit some rough water (last night), where they even placed bags out on the stairwells.  It didn't bother us except for the fact you walk like you are drunk.

I would do it, because at this point I would have everything ready for me to go anyway.

Are u leaving from NJ?? My friend was on anthem. Supposed to be back at port liberty today, someone got critically ill and they had to make a detour to drop the person off at the Bahamas!! Took 8 hours to get the person there. No one knows what happened!!

At least they gave you onboard credit.  They are only refunding the 2 days we are losing.... I'm going to call back and see if they will comp something....My gut is they won't

The email said refund 2 days to onboard credit.. if that is not used, then it gets refunded. Also 25% of the total cost of the cruise in a future cruise credit. Since we have a 10 day in Sept, that works out ok.  Also, and most important, we still get the 5 days of C&A.. which since we are 4 from diamond, having that cut to 3 would have sent my wife into meltdown.

Yesss, that’s what I said...critically ill?! Like what type of illness? They said someone said possibly heart attack.  the fact she text me at 5:02 saying this and they had to detour to the Bahamas to get this passenger to an ambulance. They got to the Bahamas at 1:30 and left at 2:30. That’s 8 hours!! I just hope whatever happened the person is ok. That’s a long time

Yes that is a long time, especially if something like a heart attack.   ...scary..... toodle 68, I don't really cruise so the 25% on a future cruise does nothing for me... I was hoping  for some real onboard credit, or casino credit,,,, something... We will probably stay on the cruise because we are all set to go already.

most likely the show schedule will stay the same. you can reserve seats on board as well. there are also seats in the back of the theatere on anthem that you can watch the shows from. the theatere is very large and lots of seats everytime i have been there.

all of this only changed your plans slightly when it comes down to it. try to lean into it and still have a great time. no matter what you are on vacation!!! ? Embarkation issues aside I bet this will turn out to be an amazing trip for you.

This extra delay must be a port berth issue because that detour only put it 17 hours behind and right now the ship is not too far from port.

I do not know the specifics, but I heard Anthem has minimal clearance in and out of the port due to  the Verrazano Narrows bridge...not sure if high and low tides effect safe passage.  Tonight is a full moon, again not sure if this effects the tide level.

@Ken23

That is true.  I have sailed out on Anthem and they only clear the bottom of Verrazano by about 30 feet, so that actually makes more sense to me when you add in the fact that they also had a medical emergency and had to divert to Boston, which already caused a delay issue.  Now add in the tides to come back into port, and flip the ship, and than sail away, that impo is probably why the delay.

I recall us sailing out at 4 and they said that it was a must due to the tides.

I doubt it is a berth issue since Adventure sailed away on Friday, thus, no other berthing issue at Cape Liberty.

So I asked and previous passengers are actually getting off this morning. Then the ship has to move for another ship. It can’t return until much later.  Previous ship leaves at 4pm. I assume Anthem has to wait outside the channel until it has cleared the bridge etc. ship is celebrity summit.
