Cococay Dining

There were a few different included locations.

Chill Grill and Skipper's grill seemed to be more of the "buffet style" lots of different options (burgers, hot dogs, tacos, sandwiches, etc) while Snack Shack was more of a burger/dog/chicken sandwich cooked to order.

We did the snack shack and found the food to be at least decent (always hard to say when you have been out at the beach for hours, everything tastes good!)

All the dining areas are free at this time.  There is talk that later on they will add a specialty restaurant (upcharge).  Your beverage package and if you purchased Voom will also work too. IOWS,  if you purchased the refreshment package and want bottled water you can get it free.  If you purchased deluxe and want a Lava Flow at any bar, you can get it free too.

With Coco Cay, Thrill and excursions, such as kayak, snorkeling, zip line, etc, will be extra.  The beach (Chill), the pool (Oasis) is inclusive, along with the food.  Since you purchased Thrill, you can decide to hang there from 9 to 12.  Have lunch, swim at Oasis until 1:30.  Go to Chill and swim up to their water bar until 3.  Walk back to Thrill, and on the way hit the snack shack and hang there until 4 or whenever you need to be back on the ship.

In essence, Thrill allows you to go anywhere (minus cabanas) on the island.

All dining currently is complimentary on Coco Cay.  The confusion is with the Snack Shack as there is more than one location.  They are all still complimentary but you won't be able to access the Snack Shack in the waterpark without admission to the waterpark.

Did you notice any non-meat options?  E.g. veggie or fish sandwich?

Chill Grill / Skipper's Grill had a portabello and mozzarella sandwich. Snack Shack offers salads and a few non meat fried items. Same subject of salad you could in theory build one with the toppings bar.

On the fish or seafood front I didn't see anything.

The menu we were given for the food delivery at the bungalow included fish tacos and several salads...but, sorry, I do not know if they have all this for sale on Cococay or if they brought it over from the ship.

And if you buy the Key, do NOT miss the Royal VIP Signature crabcakes at the depature breakfast. It was fabulous and bigger than any dinner entree.

@Skid I thought for the Perfect Day they are no longer bringing food to the cabana areas anymore.  We have a Chill Cabana and even it says food options are the ones that have been mentioned.

When we went to the excursion desk to reserve our choice for the specific bungalow (we chose number 20), they asked us to fill out the menu request (posted above). The request includes putting down what time we wanted the delivery. We put 12:30. At about 11 a server came by to ask if that is still what we wanted. They brought everything at 12:40. Job well done.

@SpeedNoodles If you look under highlights it states:

Food & Drinks: Peruse the menu that’s in your cabana upon arrival for complimentary bites from Snack Shack. Pre-purchased Beverage Packages can be redeemed. For guests without pre-purchased Beverage Packages - not to worry - alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages are available for purchase. Your Cabana Concierge will take your food and beverage orders, and serve you throughout the day. Or, cool off with a drink from the swim-up bar at Oasis Lagoon.

I think they just changed the page lately because it also said :

Night Prior to Perfect Day at CocoCay Port Day:
• You will receive a letter in your stateroom that includes your tickets, cabana number, and a Cabana Map to help you locate your cabana.

Perfect Day at CocoCay Port Day:
• Proceed to your Oasis Lagoon Cabana Concierge. The location is indicated on your Cabana Map.
• Your Cabana Concierge will take your tickets and provide you with wristbands for your whole party.
• Your Cabana Concierge will then escort you to your private cabana, so you can kick back, relax and enjoy!

This now raises the question if you still go and pick your cabana out or not.  I recall someone saying that they have changed the system,  it is no longer you go to the excursion desk and pick out the cabana, instead they assign it.  Supposedly it is assigned by when you booked it, but nobody has verified which date they are going by....IE I booked my cruise last Sept for my July cruise, and booked the cabana that exact same day, let's say I am the 2nd person to book a cabana in this scenario and number 696 to book a cabin.  However, let's say you are the 525th person to book a cabin,  but got the last cabana.  Which one do they say ranks higher?  You because you booked the cruise earlier than me, or me because I booked the cabana before you?

I am hoping that this is not the case because my husband and I have looked at the locations, and although all of them have nice locations, there are other ones we would prefer more.  It has always been my intention that as soon as we board while everyone is running to the WJ or get a lounger on the pool deck, that I will go to the excursions and pick our cabana while my husband goes and makes reservations for our specialty dinners.

@Pima1988 If they are going by dates my hunch would be the date the Cabana was booked. Big kicker, I could see those that reprice getting moved down the list due to a change of booking date. Change of date would be a result of how Royal handles doing price changes from the Cruise Planner, cancel the current purchase and create a new purchase.

Plus I'm sure some other voodoo magic could be in play, example those that have suites might be placed in more ideal locations. Plus the great mystical powers of the Genie, if they might have some clout on where their guests are placed. I do recall the Genies have no power in reserving Cabanas for purchase, Star class guests have to do it them self in advance.

@CGTLH  I was thinking the same thing.  A few days after I got it for 449 it jumped to 649 which it hovered around until Black Friday, where it dropped to 449 again.  I am sure those passengers cancelled and re-booked.  As you stated this is where you get into that grey area.

I would not be shocked if the Genie can get them the best location and I do not begrudge those passengers.  However, with that being said, the size of Coco Cay now, I highly doubt all of those passengers are going to book a cabana.  It is not as if we want only 1 specific cabana, it is more that there are certain cabanas that we don't want.  I am hoping and believing the ones we don't want are the ones that most people are trying to get.

Not true in our case. We’ve had Genies reserve cabanas for us twice before the cruise. We told the Genie which cabana we wanted and he got us our choice both times.

CocoCay is now the Wild, Wild, West when it comes to cabanas. From what I've gathered no cabanas are held back for ship board inventory. @Lovetocruise2002 could verify, many Star class folks have been upset about this change in policy.

On another forum there is a discussion going on right now regarding assigned and picking the cabana.  There are posters that said  a few weeks ago they were assigned.  The next poster says they got to pick and choose.

The thought went through my pea brain that could it be you are assigned if 2 ships are in port that day, and you get to select if you are the only ship?

That would make sense to me why some are saying one thing, and another is saying the opposite.

You are correct, unless the Genie can do some real magic.  Note this is said on their website:

Space is limited. Reserve your cabana pre-cruise for the biggest savings, only available on Cruise Planner

Ok. I should have stipulated that this was on Labadee, not CC. So it’s very possible that your statement is true for CC. Sorry...my misunderstanding.

Yes, it was just recently verified by @MamaShark who sailed Star Class this past week and Sky class the week before that Coco Cay Cabanas are not held back for any class of guests.  It is first come first reserve.  However, @MamaShark did share that if you managed to reserve it through your cruise planner then the Genie can secure the Cabana number for you.

In Coco Cay?  or did you mean Labadee?

Quite a few SC cruisers have reported no Genie magic on Coco Cay.

Now back to the dining aspect.

Does anyone know if in fact they deliver food to the cabana?   I stated earlier that it appears they have updated under the highlights further down the page, that they are offering water mats for 2, and snorkel equipment upon request.  That there will be a menu in the cabana that you hand to the concierge (snack shack), plus, they will get drinks (alcohol).

This is new...as in a week or two old, at least for my cruise.  It said food and bevs. off the grill, and than it disappeared.  It still says plush loungers, and have the old pics., so I am sure that will be changed out soon.

However, I have read that people have said they saw hide nor hair of their cabana attendant after getting their cabana....even when they tipped.

I recall seeing orders being boxed up and walked out from the Snack Shack near Oasis Lagoon on the 24th. I'm sure these were cabana orders.

There is a small menu for Cabanas - chicken sandwiches, burgers, salads, cheese sticks etc.  You fill out the menu and give it to the attendant. It takes a bit longer? than the 45 minutes regular room service on the ship. The attendants were doing their best, just not enough attendants in May.

Be prepared for the sea gulls (rats with wings) on Coco Cay.  They are thick around the eating venues and I saw some stealing food right off peoples plates.

We just witnessed this less than 5 minutes ago.  We are in Nassau.  A lady was eating  plate of French fries. The seagulls swooped down, ,sent her running and snatched every one of those French fries right off of her plate.  This was on the ship !
