analp38
In Matt’s latest video he says we can bring flat irons. Is this new? When my sister went on Oasis in 2012, she forgot hers and bought one in St. Thomas, security took it and gave back at end of cruise.
twangster
Royal did go through a period where they banned hair dryers, curling irons and hair straighteners (flat irons). There was such a revolt that they caved and allowed them. Clothing irons are still banned. Not sure about trying to bring one on mid-cruise. melski94
I bring a hair dryer, flat iron and curling iron every cruise and have never had it taken away.
Andrew72681
My wife brought her flat iron on Harmony and didn’t have any issues last December.
Matt
When I say "flat iron" I mean for someone's hair. Not an iron for clothing.

stevendom57
I think we need to be careful with our nomenclature. In the very recent past, a flat iron was used for ironing clothes. It had nothing to do with hair (unless you put you head on an ironing board). The famous "flatiron building" in New York was named such because it resembled the shape of a flat iron. True, but that's literally what they are marketed as, so that's what people call them. spiralqueen and AlohaLivin

If you have long or thick hair, you should bring your own. 1 hour ago, stevendom57 said: I think we need to be careful with our nomenclature. If you do a google search for flat iron, the only results that come up on my main page are for hair. SpeedNoodles
AshleyDillo
Old school flat iron for clothing...no heating element, so this form of a flat iron would be allowed too SpeedNoodles, Anditoo72 and spiralqueen
stevendom57
That flat iron looks like a weapon to me. spiralqueen, DragonsFly and WAAAYTOOO
Bluegrass Gal
I don't suppose you can take hand held clothing steamers now? Had one confiscated on my first cruise 5 years ago. I was lost without it. When I went to claim it on our final day, someone was actually picking up their confiscated TOASTER! Our group had some big laughs over that one! bhageerah, hayley_bopp and SpeedNoodles
Atlantix2000
General rule is if it generates heat, it's not allowed except for hair products or there would be mutiny! Bluegrass Gal

Unless you're bringing a UK hairdryer - the difference in voltage means the one in the room will actually be more powerful. Similar for 'straighteners' as us Brits call them - UK ones don't get hot enough to work very well. I've invested in a pair from the US for travel purposes. The difference it makes to my getting-ready-for-dinner stress levels is well worth the expense IMHO
Willamy
I bring my flat iron, curling iron, and hot rollers. None have ever been taken. We are diamond plus and have been on 25 cruises.
MsMiller
Where are you supposed to pack hair straightener? We’ve been on a cruise before the first time they took it because I packed it in the wrong bag, I got it right the second time but that was awhile ago and I don’t remember which bag it’s SUPPOSED to be in and I can’t remember if I packed in luggage and it was supposed to be in carry-on or vice vera it was in my carry-on and should have been in my suitcase… does anyone know for sure with Royal Caribbean which way it’s SUPPOSED to be? It doesn't matter. Hair straighteners are allowed in either carry-on or checked bags with Royal.
Pooch
Don’t even own hair dryer, curling iron, flat iron. Gotta love short hair! Of course if they ban hairspray I’m screwed!!
