Local time vs. ship time??

Recommended Posts

hello!

while I was reviewing my itinerary on my invoice I saw we will be in Roatan from 7 AM - 4 PM which isn't too bad.  but then I remembered they are in different time zone and indeed they are -2 hours from ship time - I guess Eastern time zone since we are leaving from Port. Canaveral??

Does that mean we will be in Roatan from 5 AM - 2PM ?????????  now I am very confused..   ?

With limited exceptions, your ship time will adjust to the local time. As you move from Eastern Time to Central Time, the ship's clocks will adjust at a specified time during the night.

Your stop at Roatan will be 7-4 local time.

@HeWhoWaitsis correct. The ship will continue to adjust ship time to match local time zones.

Most Caribbean nations do not observe daylight savings time.   The US East coast does.  The result is an answer of... it depends on when is your cruise?  During DST or not?

Not all ships change time.  It's at the discretion of the Captain and Cruise Director.   Most seem to though.

timeanddate.com will display the time zone and time for any location.

Roatán is in the Central time zone, it doesn't observe DST

Miami is in the Eastern time zone and in September it will be on DST, 1 hour ahead of standard time.

That means the time difference between the two in September will be two hours.

However it is likely the ship will change time as it sails towards Roatán.

If you will be communicating with friends and family on the east coast they will be two hours ahead while you are in Roatán.
