Mathew Jones
I was wondering what would happen if the President closes the border to Mexico on how it would affect cruise ships pulling into Mexico? We are going on Liberty in May and have Cozumel as our first stop. Maybe I should start thinking about other ports like Belize or Roatan. I am wondering what others are thinking about this possible glitch in the situation. On another note these latest discounts offered by RCCL on excursions just saved me another $60 off of Black Friday/Cyber Monday deals. Good thing I am a Cruise Planner stalker. As far as I know all but one ships in RCL are under Bahamas flags so not sure if there will be any impact.
twangster
I suspect that land crossings would be impacted but I doubt flights to Mexico or cruises to Mexico would be directly impacted. Time will tell. Carlos A.
nanowerx
Cruise ships don't cross the land southern border between US and Mexico, so I don't see how closing the border would effect anything sailing-wise. President Trump isn't declaring some kind of Martial Law where Americans can't visit Mexico, you just won't get there through ports of entry bordering the US. I couldn't of said it better. In addition, Trump has issued a "one year warning" to Mexico that he will close the southern borders.
Rick M
On the other hand, if Mexico were to prevent anyone with a US passport from entering their country, then it would affect land, Air and sea passengers. As retaliation. Hoski

Turning away cruise ships though isn't going to hurt cruisers nearly as much as Mexican businesses and residents in port towns. NS8VN
There are various reasons that this probably is not something that would be happening, especially not at this time next year, but that gets in to a completely different discussion more suitable for other forums. Should such a thing happen however it is very likely that Royal would contact those affected with information on how it impacts them. This is similar to when a travel warning is issued and Royal passes this information along to passengers along with recommendations. Regardless, I wouldn't worry about it too much as far as cruising goes. Baked Alaska

Our reasons for not doing Cozumel? 1. Already been there. 2. Doing two long, expensive excursions the two previous days in Roatan and Belize City. Going to rest up. Will the casino be open while ship is at Cozumel? 3. I've seen the situation in Mexico deteriorating country-wide, not just at the borders. I think the cartels are in control throughout. It's not the same country it once was.

Don't let the exaggerated media discourage you from traveling. Touristic areas, specially Cozumel are extremely safe.

tiny260
Everyone remember last year when the ferry was bombed? Did Royal still go to Cozumel? Yes, did Royal issue a warning about the ferry's? Yes Did I get off and enjoy a wonderful beach day? Yes, would I have gotten on a ferry to the main land? No. I'm assuming that the cartel got what they wanted, the Governor probably paid up and everyone goes on their way

Again, I don't know where this argument comes from. This has never been discussed or considered by mexican authorities ever!
