Actual gold panning in Alaska? (Juneau or Skagway)

We are sailing on Ovation this summer to Alaska from Seattle and will be stopping in Skagway and Juneau. We would really like to pan for gold in an actual river or stream rather than in troughs that are stocked with gold. I have looked high and low and can't seem to find one that takes you to nature for a more real experience. We would prefer one in Skagway as we have more time there than Juneau but either would work for us.

Does anyone have any experience with an excursion or company that we could take that will take us out into nature instead of to a touristy area?

If real gold could be obtained by simply panning in a river, a mining company would be all over it.

On the flip side, very few miners actually found gold in the 1898 gold rush.  Most of them lost their life savings in pursuit of a media exaggerated event.  So from that perspective panning for gold today will yield a realistic lifelike experience.
