Tables in Main dining room

How do the tables work?  We are traveling with our 7 year old daughter and have 6pm seating.  Will they put us at a table with another family with kids?  How many people are at a table?  Do you have the same table mates every night?  I know there is something where they take the kids  45 mins into dinner or but we’re not doing that since we’re taking our daughter to the shows with us after dinner.

if you have traditional dining, you'll sit with the same group people everynight.  I am sure you can request to be grouped with others that have kids on their booking.

If you do the mytimedining, you need to make reservations with anyone you want to sit with.

table sizes range quite a bit.  but you can definitely make requests about your arrangement and they'll do whatever they can to meet your request

I would actually prefer to be with other people, I just hope they have kids too.  My 7 year talks to everyone, but if there was another kid at the table she might talk to the kid, not every adult.   Where do you see how big your table is?  I don’t see it anywhere in my cruise planner.

I had to call Royal last week to modify my dining time for my April cruise, and they asked me whether I preferred a table for 4, 7, etc.  First time that's happened.  Try giving them a call and requesting a table for 4.  How far out is your sailing?

Our cruise is April 13th on symphony.

You won't know, as far as I know, how big your table is until you look in the mdr on the ship.  When I did mdr with my kids 12-18 at the time, they had us with one other teenager and his mom, one 8 year old and her parents, and one older couple. It was a bit hit or miss.  My guess is you will have more kids at the first seating.  For sure call Royal or your travel agent and ask questions!  And definitely to the mdr on embarkation day and check out your table.  If you are at a smaller one, you can ask to be switched!  Jane

That's about how having mystery table mates works.  You never know what you're gonna get.

Lol...too funny!!!  Although my 15 year old is obsessed with Alice in wonderland, I'm thinking even when might be a bit freaked by the mad hatter sitting next to her!!!  With my luck I'd get Anthony!  Or nobody...we had the one night where it was me and the kids and 6 empty seats because they were so last specialty restaurants! I don't believe you can see that ahead of time. On embarkation day you can go into the MDR and scope it out, since your SeaPass card will list your table assignment.

They actually do the table-arrangement-magic for main dining at 14 days prior. I always put a note in my calendar to call that day and ask for what I want and they always accommodate. If you call before then they say "we'll make a note" and often it gets missed.

Going to the dining room right when you embark always works, too, but then they write on your Seapass card in marker if they have to change your table. OCD-me doesn't like that. hahaha!

Do they assign tables ahead of time like that for MyTime Dining, too?

Not sure about this, as I've only done MyTime once. In that case, I had reserved the same time every day and the waiter proactively went to check that we would be seated with him each night. So I think your plan is a good one!

That's encouraging! I love the concept of Traditional Dining, but 5:30 is way too early for us to eat, and 8:30 was too late for our friends to eat (we typically have dinner at 9pm, lol), so we picked MyTime.

Like others have said on here it is a good idea when you first get on the ship go to your dining room and check out your table.  Since there are three dining floors make sure when finding your table you are on the correct floor,  it will tell you what floor and table number on your sea pass card.  There will probably be workers getting the dining room ready for dinner that night but feel free to walk in and find your table then when dinner time rolls around that night you wont need a escort to take you to your table.  Just walk in and go directly to your table.  You and your family will have a wonderful time.  Oops.....I would first go eat lunch before it gets too crowded then check out the dining room.
