pahdsh
We are looking at Chaak Tun in Cozumel (RCC Excursion) called Underground Mayan River Cenote and Famous 5th Ave shopping & Beach. Has anyone done this? My three adult kids (ages 20, 22, 25) really want to do some cave snorkeling. We are on Allure March 3rd (Nassau, Cozumel, Roatan, Costa Maya). I think my husband and I will skip it but wanted advise from people who have been on it.
KaydenDeen
Just out of curiosity- did you take this excursion? I've read several good reviews, but wanted to get another perspective.
WAAAYTOOO
It has been my experience that the cenotes can be unpleasant and dirty. That is not true of all, but I have found more of them to be icky than pleasant. There seems to always be trash (and I don’t mean human trash - just brush, limbs, etc) floating around and they are often steep and mirky. I steer clear of cenotes. MO & LO on the go!
Edit: didn't realize how old this OP was...ooppsss sorry We did a turtle swim, cenote, and beach. Not sure if its the same cenote but this was the best excursion we have ever done! and we have done 2-3 dozen. it was very clean, water crystal clear, and fun. You don't really get to snorkel like you envision you would in the ocean. Its not real expansive. Some of them you can then "cliff" jump in to, which was fun. Not the one we went to in Cozumel though because you went down a hole to the cave. Heres some pictures of the one we went to. KaydenDeen
Just wanted to report that the Chaak Tun cenote is pretty clean and we had a good time. Our excursion included a Mayan cleansing ritual, which was interesting. I wrote about it on the live blogs, but can answer questions about it here. Thanks to everyone for the good information!
