Central Park Interior or Ultra Spacious Ocean View

Recommended Posts

We have a few cruise bookings and I'm always price checking and looking at other options.  For our Harmony cruise we got a great price on a Central Park Interior room  (window…no balcony) at 191 sq ft.  Our kids will be 15 and 11 when we travel.  One of the other rooms I'm eyeing is the Ultra Spacious Ocean View room.  It has the extra Pullmans (in the closet…lol) and is 271 sq ft.  From what I can tell, there are 1 or 2 windows depending on the specific room.  Also from what I've understand, Harmony has a sofa bed + separate trundle so it's not a huge deal with the bed configuration in the Central Park room (vs having to share a double sofa bed), but the ultra spacious is nice as they would completely get their own space.  The difference in price right now is $900 CAD so a bit much, but if it goes down at all….questioning if we should move.

Has anyone stayed in Central Park Interior and/or Ultra Spacious and has comments about the room type?  Is the move worth $900?  On the flip side, never stayed in Central Park room and they do look neat and different.  Also the Ultra Spacious room is very forward (with 2 of them being forward facing) so not sure about movement .  Having said that, our Central Park interior room is forward section as well.

There aren't a ton of either of these stateroom categories so may not even get the choice, but want to be able to make a decision in the case an ultra spacious does lower in price (or if its worth $900 more).

Would love to hear other's thoughts.

PS -  As a note….To date we've always stayed in one room and for this cruise it's very expensive for even 2 interiors so not considering it.  Even balcony rooms are a big jump up in price.

@WannaCruise as you know we stayed in the Ultra Spacious Ocean View on Indy.  Although configuration wasn't the same, the extra space was nice.  There was more motion forward, but Harmony is also a larger ship so might not be as noticeable.  Is the move worth $900, only you can decide that.  A regular interior is pretty cramped for 4 people.  And your kids are older too.  We paid $242USD to go from a regular ocean view to the Ultra spacious for 5 nights.  For me personally, I would seriously consider for the extra space alone, but that's just me....

Thanks Lovetocruise.  Yes I remember you stayed in a similar room on Indy.  I seem to remember that you didn't love it?  Think it was related to the bathroom vs JS though?  In our case, the bathrooms would be the same.  I find cruise rooms funny as these "large rooms" are really no larger than a standard hotel room, and if anything still smaller.  It's all relative though, right?

We have managed before in a Allure Promenade room, and trying Boardwalk room on Symphony in March...so we can make do.  But true...by this cruise, which is 2021, they will be older and almost having 2 teenagers (and one is a boy and one a girl).

@WannaCruise I noted the ages of your kids and that is why I said if it were me, I would give serious consideration. The trundle is going to be tough and probably uncomfortable for either one of your kids at that point.

I did not like the 1K for reasons that may not apply to others. Overall it was still a great family room. I just did not care for the washroom size and I really missed the balcony. But still a way better option than what we originally booked. At least we weren’t tripping over one another, which I worry would be the case with 4 adult size bodies (even 11 year olds can take up a lot of space lol) in an interior.

Thanks.  Yeah...they are getting older with my older one taller than me now and younger one not far behind (she's very tall for her age...and I'm not)...so 2 years from now, even more so.  Can see what you are saying.  Maybe I'll have to go on the trundle...?

The ultra spacious you had looks even nicer than Harmony as I think you had a separate room.  Harmony just has the one big room with the pullman, or more like a bunk bed, in its own space.

Prices shot up today...so for now, happy with what we have and will manage, but I have 2 years to price watch...lol.

I love the Ultra spacious rooms for space, but I travel with 5 so it's pretty much my only option. I've done the oceanview on allure at the front and we liked it. There are pros and cons though. The room tapered down to the windows making for a low ceiling at the front. My kids(younger and smaller than yours) loved this space, but it could be annoying for full sized humans. There was also a shaking/vibrating that happened every time we came into port(i think as they hit reverse). I'm a very heavy sleeper but it even woke me up every morning. That said we still really like the rooms because they are just so much bigger, I would consider getting them even if we only had 3 guests. I will try not to get the room with the slanted ceiling next time though.

Looks like the only picture/video of the front of the room is my girls being goofballs. There are 2 windows like this, we just only had 1 open.

Such a cute picture, and glad to hear you like the room despite feeling the vibrations.  What ship is that?  I don't think the ones on Harmony (the 1K rooms) have the slanted window.  They are at the front though; 2 aft facing, and a few others aft but on the sides.

That was Allure rm 11500 i think

We just booked room 11500. The ultra spacious. I have been motion sick on ship a long time ago. Last couple were ok. Not sure if they have gotten better at stabilizing or better room location. Did you have the ultra spacious up front

I’m n Adventure, a smaller ship, in their spacious OV all the way forward.  Awful waves🤮.  Today the anchor? Sounds at the tender port were just what I needed to wake up👀😩.  Motion was so bad on our sea day that I vacated the room snd did not go back til late night.  I hunkered down in deck 8 aft computer room eating green apples, ginger chews and Bonine.  It was miraculous   When I went back to my cabin after dinner I took the drowsy Dramamine (original formula) and slept.  The room in the spacious OV is a game changer.

You could also consider to book  2 balconies etc, 1A,1C in each and swap when onboard you’d have 2 bathrooms!!

not sure if it's just me but i have always found any cabin that is forward to be worse for me with motion sickness than any cabin mid-to aft. we tend to feel nothing in the middle (unless its just insanely bad) and aft cabins to me feel like they're just sailing through an existing lane of traffic/waves (at least in my mind 🤣) so i've always been fine in them.

it is worth noting however, that all the oasis class ships have excellent stabilizers and it is rare you feel much movement on a ship of that size class. so you may be fine, especially if sailing out of port canaveral into warm, caribbean waters. if you were leaving from bayonne (colder water) and going south down the atlantic, that would likely garner some movement/motion, regardless of the ship size.

Oasis out of Bayonne to Bahamas,  northbound in early May, that ship was rocking. Deck 4 casino midship you couldn’t stand still the rocking made you move and walk like you’d been heavily drinking.  I had a deck 9 balcony close to the aft elevator and I was green.

New to cruising, would this mean a cruise from Baltimore to Bahamas in December would be bad when it comes to motion?

There are talking about having cabins in certain areas will make you more prone to feeling the motion. It has nothing to do with the ports per se, just locations of the cabins.

I don't do forward on any ship, cabins towards the front of the ship, because you feel more. I also prefer higher and aft.
