They must go fast, as I've looked at cruises on ships that have them, as far out as I can look, and have yet to find one (i guess this might be a good task for a travel agent). And on a semi-related note... Pinging @ellcee, as she's sailed in a solo cabin on Anthem. I seem to recall her saying the savings vs paying single supplement for a regular cabin of the same class (interior or balcony) weren't that big, so depending on what you're looking for it might be better to just get a regular cabin and at least then you get double points. bhageerah 1 Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
twangster Posted January 15, 2019 Report Share Posted January 15, 2019 In my experience studio cabins tends to run around 75% the price of a similar double occupancy cabin. The industry is largely built on the concept of double occupancy and they factor onboard spending into pricing models. One person in any cabin isn't going to spend as much as two people buying drinks, in the casino, on photos, in the spa, specialty dining, excursions, gratuity charges, etc. For this reason studio cabins are not half the price of regular cabins and they are limited in availability to maintain the pricing model validity for any given ship. Also keep in mind you only get single C&A points in studio cabins. Paying that extra 25% as a solo in a normal cabin nets you double C&A points. On a 'price-per-point' basis that 25% more is like taking two cruises in terms of points earned so if you are watching your status and trying to climb the C&A ladder consider that. 4ensic, SpeedNoodles and bhageerah 3 Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

bhageerah Posted January 16, 2019 Report Share Posted January 16, 2019 I will end up taking a solo cruise within the next 12 months due to scheduling conflicts, I have been researching this whole thing, and have found that depending on what ship and time of year I cruise it is actually cheaper and better for me to just book a regular room vs a solo room. The price difference is not as significant as I thought it would be, and the benefit of the double cruise points are a definite positive as well. There is a cruise out of Baltimore that is going to cost me a little over$1k for a inside stateroom, if I look at a solo room on a different ship the cost would be more expensive. I do understand that I am not exactly comparing apples to apples but for this particular cruise its just about getting away and I honestly don't care about the ship or the room. I just know that either way I am going to have a great time, double cruise points make it even better! If I do it right this one should take me to Diamond by the time I return. Any day on any ship is better than a day on land. With this mentality I've climbed the C&A ladder very quickly even if the ships I've sailed didn't have bumper cars and zip lines. The MDR menus are pretty much fleet wide standard and I'm not cooking it, so... The only thing to watch for when sailing solo and you see what appears to be great rate is to watch for Guarantee cabins that *most* of the time require double occupancy. At first I was actually afraid of doing it, and then I came to my senses and realized what you stated above! I am off almost all of this December and half of November and it makes absolutely no sense not to take advantage of it and spend some of that time out at sea especially since the price is so cheap in that time frame. It only makes sense, and especially since you climb up the tiers much faster! There is no way I will be able to go on 14 cruises in one year but I can assure you that once I retire in about 8 more years it is on! You just helped me to make up my mind, thank you!! Harmony's price was a little ridiculous in my opinion, the regular room wasn't a whole lot more. The solo on Anthem was better priced and the money I saved was used for excursions. Unfortunately I can't afford to cruise with Royal Caribbean this year; I'm three points away from diamond but their pricing has really put me off. I looked at a 7 night cruise from the UK - £649 per person in an inside cabin; therefore £1298 for two people on the cabin. When I put one person in the inside cabin the price is £1757! I love sailing with Royal but this has now put me off - there's no way I can afford £1757 for a one week cruise from the UK - no flights involved. You don't get double C&A points with a solo cabin. You do if you're the only one in a regular room. So if you book 2 people, and the other one "cancels" (even if they really weren't ever going to go), you would get double C&A points (according to what I've been told). And really... being able to cruise using this technique vs not being able to cruise at all? Even if it's only single C&A points (which I don't believe it is), you're still going on a cruise. She said she only needs 3 points to get to Diamond, so either way she'd be fine. It's something to consider for the future. I'm just annoyed that when I put in for 1 person it was £459 more than for 2 people - I was expecting it to be £1298. Nevermind. I've now booked a cruise for this year with another company - and although I'm solo it's in a twin cabin and it's less than the price for 2 people. Goes to show you never get the same answer twice. In 2018 I had the no-show scenario three times, the last in November with a WS Suite Guarantee. In all cases I called C&A after the cruise and they had my account adjusted for double (non-suite) and triple (suite) after verifying I did indeed cruise solo.
