Not a teen but not an "adult" either

Recommended Posts

Hi All

I'm looking for some advice about an upcoming cruise. We will be cruising a week after my eldest daughter turns 18. In Australia its legal age for drinking and nightclubs but I think USA (therefore RCCL) its different.

Anyway, I've heard it can be difficult for people of this age to find fellow cruisers to socialise with because your too old to go to the kids club (which would be her preference ((and mine!)) ) but not old enough to go to the nightclubs.

Any advice or thoughts appreciated.

Luke

I would encourage her to start looking at social networking sites like Facebook and cruise critic and shipmate. All will have a roll call type group where she may be able to meet some of her own age even before she boards the ship. When is the cruise and where is it sailing from?

I don't know whether this will be useful, and I'm assuming that you're next cruise is the South Pacific one you have in your forum signature, but according to Royal Caribbean's age policy:

The minimum age to consume alcohol on Royal Caribbean International ships on sailings from South America, Europe, Asia, Australia and New Zealand is eighteen (18). The minimum age to consume alcohol at all private destinations remains twenty-one (21) without regard to where the sailing originated. The Company retains the right, on rare occasions, to raise the minimum age of alcohol consumption on any sailing when local laws require or permit such a modification.

She should be able to go into the nightclub given that the drinking age is 18.

Now, that said, on our last family cruise, our older son who had turned 18 earlier that year was in a similar position. He was able to meet up with other kids his age and still had a great time.

On US sailings, I've seen meet-ups for the 18-20 year old crowd listed in the Cruise Compass. They aren't officially organized, just a casual opportunity for those who are interested in meeting others in that range to have a place and time to find each other.

Thanks for your replies everyone! I was hoping someone might've had someone or heard of someone who was able to go into the teen club as I feel she would be more comfortable in there (she's the oldest of all her friends).. Anyway I'll certainly ask when we get on-board. As Matt says "Worse they can do is say no!"

Thanks again!
