we will be on Freedom in Feb, was wanting to bring a 12 pk of bottled water onboard with us, RCCL rules said u could bring  up to 12 17 oz water or soda, but have read comments that they dont allow it anymore.

**Also some people have commented that RC isn’t allowing plug in strips any longer.

Do u know if they’ve changed their rules.?

They will allow you to bring water onboard. They have an official policy about it. And I did it as recently as this past July.

I would not count on being allowed to bring any plug in power strips. Not many cruise lines allow it due to fire hazards. You can bring a USB hub without any problem usually.

I copied this from Royal Caribbean’s website.

One of the best things about cruising is the food! And there will be many dining options available to suit most tastes and preferences. However you are free to bring non-perishable prepackaged food in limited quantities.

While we have many drink offerings onboard, you are welcomed to bring select beverages onboard.

On boarding day, each stateroom may bring up to two 750 ml bottles of wine or champagne, as long as one guest is of legal drinking age. Corkscrews will be provided for guests to enjoy their drinks in their stateroom. If guests wish to enjoy their wine or champagne in our dining or bar venues, there will be a corkage fee applied.

Guests may also bring non-alcoholic beverages as carry-on items on boarding day. Non-alcoholic beverages may not exceed 12 standard (17 oz.) cans, bottles or cartons per stateroom. Milk and distilled water brought on for infant, medical, or dietary use are permitted.

Guests who purchase alcohol bottles onboard, in a port-of-call, or bring more than the two permitted bottles on boarding day, will have their items safely stored by the ship. These bottles will be returned on the last day onboard for enjoyment once home.

Well, they stopped letting people put luggage tags on massive amounts of water and getting it delivered to their room.  This was actually always against the rules but was ignored by most port personnel.  (You weren't allowed to bring any water or soda on board, just 2 bottles of wine per stateroom).  Now they have an actual policy that allows a limited amount of water or soda to be carried on by you and they enforce no water/soda in checked luggage.  So perhaps that is the source of the conflicting information you're seeing.

Even before they changed their policy I carried water onboard.  I figured that the $2.99 for the water was worth the experiment the first time I tried it, we had seen people with it on our first cruise.  I carried it on, and put it in a rolling suitcase and rolled it around with us without any problems.  Up until recently we would carry a case of water, we currently just carry a YETI and make sure that it gets filled.  We don't need a specific brand, or have any allergies so it simply works for us, and have found that it is MUCH lighter and easier to carry onboard.

Is the water that they serve on ship (faucet/tap) good tasting or nasty?

I'm assuming its desalinated water.

One thing to add, depending on the ship that you are on they will usually have pre made water in several locations, they do not want you to place your bottle under the fill station directly.  They ask that you fill the cup up and pour it in your bottle so that diseases are not transmitted.

With regards power strips, while disembarking freedom last month i noticed 2 very large tables in an area near luggage pick up that were full of conficated electrical equipment including some power strips

That is the absolute truth, wife had a hair straightener and they confiscated our luggage because they thought that it was a power strip, we had to go downstairs and show them that it was not a power strip, once they saw what it was they let us have it and her luggage.  As you have already stated on the way out there were quite a few that had to be claimed on the way out.  I have found that a multi USB plug works very well and keep it packed away in my cruise luggage.

I actually had my luggage pulled for the "naughty room" on my November Enchantment sailing because they were claiming I had an extension cord when the only thing I had was a USB hub . When I went down to claim my bag I had to politely argue with security to try and convince them I didn't have anything. After about 5 minutes of rooting through my bag in the open hallway, they finally relented and let me have my luggage without taking anything, but it was annoying enough that next time I will bring the USB hub in my carry-on.

Had no problems with taking water aboard the Anthem in August. FYI: The Coke Freestyle machines that are part of a drink package will dispense ice to anyone into any container. I washed out a coin bucket from the casino and used it as an ice bucket. Crew members who saw me chuckled.

That’s good information right there! Thank you for sharing! I carry a 64oz YETI and that makes it a little easier at times to top it off with ice.
