Foodies! We're going on the Southern Caribbean sailing on Dec 10.Where are some good spots to get some local food in Aruba, Bonaire, Curacao, St Lucia and Antigua?? Looking for the good stuff, something other than cruise ship food or a hamburger. Show me what you've got.....

Aruba - SeaSalt, local restaurant, easy walk from cruise ship pier, all the times I've been to Aruba the ship tends to leave later than normal ports, so my wife and I went and cleaned up on the ship and then walked back to the restaurant for dinner, I don't know if it is there specialty but the Paella was amazing, for desert have the deep fried cheese cake.

It doesn't show they have a web site or online menu, there was plenty of other stuff on the menu, traditional dutch, lot of sea food.

If you go to Google maps through the link above,  the strip center center the restaurant is in has a bunch of other restaurant also.

We always tend to eat at local places when we travel, our rule of thumb is no "chain restaurants".

I can't help you with those ports as I've never been. But, assuming you're departing from San Juan, I can heartily recommend the restaurant Tropical Taste in the Old San Juan area, maybe a five-minute walk from where the pigeon park is located. Hole-in-the-wall little restaurant tucked out of sight at the back of a souvenir shop, with really good Puerto Rican food and awesome mojitos. Went there for lunch and everyone was very happy with it.

My wife nd I are the same. We can get chain food at home. When out and about, you should broaden your horizons and eat new exciting food!

We went to Barcelona on a cruise in 2016, we have been searching for a good Paella since then, when we walked by this restaurant early in the day and saw it on the menu, we poked our head in and asked how many it feed, when they told us it was for 2 people we made our decision right then (It could have feed 4 easily).

There is a restaurant in the Cosmopolitan in Vegas that fixes a Paella, but it feed 8-10 people.

Didn't think about San Juan, if you are going on the Freedom, this place is a block behind the Sheraton Old San Juan. Very good food.

We will be back in San Juan in January and will be going back for lunch.

  • 2 weeks later...

We were just recently in Aruba, Curacao & Antigua but didn't eat anywhere really.  We got a local beer in each stop, but two of the three we ate at the beach (Aruba - Palm Beach, Antigua - Ffryes Beach) and in Curacao we only had local beer.   Sorry I wish I could be more help!
