  1. Going on Oasis of the Seas next July, and I was wondering if the shop on board sells different model ships, not just the one you are on. For example, if you are on board Mariner of the Seas, could you buy a scale model of Liberty of the Seas, or would you have to go on that ship to get that model? I would really like to get a couple of different models on board.
  2. Today is day 4 of our cruise and I purposely delayed starting this blog. Voom suffers in Alaska being so far North and knowing I would take a bunch of photos I will be writing the bulk of thread after I return home and can go through thousands of photos to select the best ones. Consequently keep any eye out for updates next week, but in the interim if anyone has any questions they would like to ask while I am on board feel free to add those now. Itinerary Day 1 - Embark in Seward Day 2 - Hubbard Glacier Day 3 - Juneau Day 4 - Skagway Day 5 - Icy Strait Point Day 6 - Ketchikan Day 7 - Inside Passage Day 8 - Disembark in Vancouver So far every port has been awesome and weather has been great. Our time at Hubbard Glacier was incredible and very different from Explorer's trip to the Dawes Glacier in June. That's just a tease, I'll get into that in more detail once I go through the pictures and videos of calving I have. We've just arrived in Skagway and I am heading out for my day of self exploring. Later...
  3. If, during dry dock, RCCL decides to replace Samba with another specialty restaurant, what would you like to see? Hooked would be nice since they closed Rita's Crabshack.
  4. Has anyone stayed in the Ocean view cabins on deck 4? We will be booking 2 connecting ocean view rooms but we are curious about noise level from promenade above? Thanks ?
  5. Hi All I find myself in turmoil and hope you can all help me out. We recently cruised on the Radiance and almost left the ship after the first night because the bed was SO bad! Firm would not begin to describe it. On top of this my wife has a bad back. When I was talking to management. Somebody in charge of Laundry. He explained that I should expect a harder (older) bed on a ship of this age. I couldn't believe what I was hearing. After a lot of arguments they were able to improve the situation but it was still the worse bed I've ever slept on and I've done a lot of camping. My question is. What experience do other people have on RCCL ships? Our first cruise was on Allure and that was one of the best beds I've slept on. We even looked at trying to buy one of those mattresses! They don't ship to Australia. http://www.royalcaribbeanbeddingcollection.com I was planning a Christmas cruise on Voyager but thats older ship then the Radiance. Can anyone tell me what the beds are like on the Voyager?? Any help would be appreciated. I'm trying to follow Master Matt's advice about booking my next cruise but unfortunately in Australia we only have older RCCL ships. Thanks
  6. I haven't seen much comment on these message boards regarding Samba. We have the Ultimate Dining package for our July Radiance sailing. What are your impressions if you've dined at this specialty dining restaurant?
  7. When we are in Skagway next summer, we are scheduled for two excursions for the day: the White Pass train from 8:10 to 11:25 AM and then Ziplining from 1:40 to 5:40 PM. Any ideas as to meeting places? Since we will already be off the ship, do they have a meeting place on pier for those folks? Given that there are roughly 1:45 minutes of lunch time in there, do we eat lunch in port or go back to the ship? pinging @KJ1231 @twangster
  8. For lunch/dinner in Juneau: Tracy's Crab Shack or The Hanger?
  9. If anyone has a cruise compass from THIS past summer's Alaska sailings on Radiance, may I request that you upload them to the Cruise Compass section of the blog? Many, many thanks!!
  10. I've been reading the cruise compasses for Radiance of the Seas, Alaska Southbound. Question for @twangster and others who have made this sailing: How is dining, reserved and MDR, coordinated with the late muster drill time? I've seen 7pm and 5:30pm (I think it was) in the latest ROTS/southbound Compasses as the drill time. I made our dining rezi for 6:30pm. Maybe we shouldn't reserve anything the first night????
  11. After listening to this week's podcast, I have this question: We will be staying in an Owner's Suite for our July 2019 Radiance Southbound. I thought that VOOM was a perk for suite guests on Radiance, but now I am not sure. There will be three of us with four total devices. I'll have my chromebook along, but I plan to swap out that out with my phone VOOM connection. I can't seem to find where specifically this is mentioned. I know I've seen it. . .
  12. We are scheduled for July 2019 Southbound Alaska on ROTS. We have the following shore excursions booked and would be interested in your experiences. DS will be 14 1/2 on this trip. In ANC two days before embarkation Rust's Fly-out Fly fishing. Day 3 Juneau Fly-Out Fly Fishing (DH and DS), Mount Roberts Tramway (will buy tickets on shore) whole family, and Tracy's King Crab Shack (late lunch/early dinner) whole family Day 4 Skagway On our own: Klondike Gold Rush/National Historic Park whole family @twangster: Many thanks for the recommendation Day 5 Icy Strait Point In Alaska's Wildest Kitchen (me), Icy Strait Point Stream Fishing (DH and DS) Day 6 Ketchikan Knudson Cove Salmon Fishing whole family, hopefully will have Mystery Dinner theater this evening. Day 7 Cruising Hello Chops!
  13. We just returned home on Monday night from the best Alaska cruise and land tour ever! We had great weather the entire time. I will do a review when I have a little more time.
  14. From the RCI Facebook page: We regrettably announce that it will be necessary to cancel the upcoming 11-night cruise on Radiance of the Seas departing 6 April 2018. This is to conduct necessary repairs on the ship's Azipod propulsion system, which impacts the ships’ speed and ability to deliver future scheduled cruises. The ship’s guest services are currently fully operational, and there is no impact on the maneuverability of the ship or on the safety of our guests and crew as it returns to Sydney from its current Queensland coastal cruise. After exploring numerous repair options and to ensure readiness for future cruises, repairs will take place from 6 April to 17 April. We are currently in the process of informing all impacted guests and their travel agents. All guests will be provided with a full refund as well as a 100% Future Cruise Credit. We sincerely regret that we will be unable to deliver the Royal Caribbean cruise holiday that our guests were looking forward to. Our guest’s holiday time is very precious and we can assure you that we did not make this decision lightly. Guests should contact their local travel agent, or please feel free to call us on 1800 754 500.
  15. As well as Caribbean, also pricing up Japan cruises with Royal Caribbean. There’s two cruises that we looked up, both going to 3 ports. One is on the Quantum from Shanghai, and the other is on the Ovation from Tianjin. Which ship is better? Is there a difference? Does one have something the other one doesn’t? Thanks in advance.
  16. Just thought Id post links to our photos for the cruise we just did. It was a 33 night circumnavigation of Australia. The cruise also took in New Zealands South Island and Bali.
