  1. Howdy! Since we are from NYC we wanted to make the most of visiting Texas before and after our Cruise. We arrived on a Saturday night. Picked up the car. Grabbed some quick but tasty food at Buc-ees along the interstate. Checked into Holiday Inn on the Beach. Went to Buckshot saloon, did some country western dancing before the kids and nighclub vibe took over around midnight. We were going to eat again after but things were pretty quiet. Next day ate at Leos Cajun Corner which had great boudin and the best macaroni salad ever. Next day toured Galveston Island, which has a ton of historic homes, many which were decorated for Mardi Gras. Headed downtown, STUNNONG architecture and shops with lots of Mardi Gras wear. There is also a trolley that costs a dollar but we didn't have time. Also did some pre cruise shopping. After the cruise we went to Truth BBQ in Houston, which had a 1 hour line. Very tasty but might have done Pinkertons instead. Went to an art gallery where they were having an opening party with a band called the Art Car museum. Finally went to the Houston Farmers market which is SPECTACULAR-- reminded me of the market in Merida, Mexico. Admittedly the rental car and hotel were a significant chunk of our budget but it was totally worth it and we wouldn't have minded another day or two.
