  1. Hi guys, another quick one. Is breakfast and or lunch server in the MDR? Or just windjammer? We are on explorer. Thanks again all x
  2. Saw a previous post about favorite food in the MDR. Made me think about the reat of the ship as well! So I'd love to hear what were peoples favorite food or meal from any restaurant, and ship! Would love to hear what everyone liked!
  3. Hi all! We have booked a GS on Liberty of the Seas in August. I started researching and it’s all starting to get jumbled. 1. As suite members, do we have a speciality dining option for embarkation lunch or should we look at the Key? 2. I swear I have found that we can eat breakfast and lunch at speciality dining but now I’m having trouble finding it again. If we do, what restaurant and is it the same menu as the main dining (just a different location?). We are ultimately deciding if we should pay for the speciality dining package or if the suite perks get us enough.
  4. You all have been amazingly resourceful so far! I was wondering about food at Adventure Ocean. My son, who will be just short of six when we take our first cruise, will likely be there much of the day time when we are at sea. I know about the kids' dining options at the dining room, but is there food available at OA for the kids? He seems to be hungry (hangry, more like it!) ALL THE TIME, and it would be awesome if they either had regularly scheduled snacks or a pantry with food. I haven't seen anything about this on any website! Thank you all. Valerie
  5. I understand that a few days prior to embarkation, a suite concierge will email to introduce themself and ask if there are any requests that they can take care of. So, can they make all the dining rezis on the ultimate dining package PRIOR to our embarkation?
  6. We are sailing on Independence of the Seas 12/6-12/10...we are going with friends...while we all chose My Time Dining, are we supposed to "pre-book" our times? or can we just walk up to the dining room when we're ready to eat? I cannot remember what we did on the last cruise...
  7. I've been reading the cruise compasses for Radiance of the Seas, Alaska Southbound. Question for @twangster and others who have made this sailing: How is dining, reserved and MDR, coordinated with the late muster drill time? I've seen 7pm and 5:30pm (I think it was) in the latest ROTS/southbound Compasses as the drill time. I made our dining rezi for 6:30pm. Maybe we shouldn't reserve anything the first night????
  8. We have the ultimate dining package on the Symphony group cruise over thanksgiving. I know we have to make our reservations once we’re on board, but was wondering if we’d have better luck making the reservations with the Diamond lounge concierge or at one of the specialty restaurants. We made mock reservations in the cruise planner today and not many times available online.
  9. For those who have cruised on FOTS, if you could only go to one of the dining venues which one would you recommend? Not interested in Sabor so it's a straight choice between chops grille and giovannis. Thanks ?
  10. Just wanted to give a shout out to this site!!! I read for days and got a lot of great advice on our cruise. It's the first one for me in many moons, and the first for my wife and one of our daughters. We went for my oldest DD grad cruise, another family of 4 and a set of grand parents for a total of 10 in our party. After the cruise was booked, I had to call RC in person for show resizes and dinner resizes because the website wasn't right. So, we drove down from NC, split the drive around Daytona Beach, which was about 3 hrs from the port. Our board times were 1PM, but we went for an earlier show time, due to the knowledge read on here. Word of advice when driving to the port....stay alert!! Once you get to where the PORT roadsigns are in Ft Lauderdale, there are a lot of bridges, ramps and lane changes...so just stay alert. Also, have Sail papers and passports ready as you enter the port...guards check them. Once we found the pier, baggage drop off was easy...congested but just pay attention to the staff directing traffic and they can have you in/out in a jiffy. We dropped off and parked in the adjacent lot, about 100 or so yards from the entrance building. We got in line, followed lots of signs, followed the directions, and made our way through it all...Those guys go a great job of pushing LOTS of people through what looks like an eye of a needle in a short amount of time. FYI, no one looked at our boarding time to tell us we were about 2 1/2 hrs early!!!!! From the time we got in line outside the port building, to the time we made it through 3 ID checks, and started our way on the gangway, was about 40 min!!!! We were impressed!!! And we all had a small carryon bag... We got on board, and were instantly amazed at the size and scope of the ship!!! Great atmosphere and everyone was so helpful. Our keys were on our doors in about 3 min, and we could use the paper sail card for drinks until we got our plastic sail cards...Luggage was delivered within a few hours to "Zones" on the isle...so we found out luggage and took it to our room to unpack. Easy peasy.....Then the fun began....after a good lunch at the Wingjammer Cafe, it was deck 15 for sail away party, which was beautiful out of the port...We didn't do dinner reservations first night b/c we would be busy with sail away activities.... All our dinners were in the American Icon main dining room at 5:30...we had a wonderful wait staff!!!! The food was great and plentiful. A good wine list for those on the drink package too...most wines were under the $13 price. The 5:30 time worked great for us, and overnight, they asked if we had a show and what time it was..Most shows were at 9:30, so they let us take our time and most suppers were 2-2 1/2 hrs...very relaxed and fun. We saw the Aqua show, Blue Planet, the juggler show, Ice game, and the newly wed game...all were good with the Aqua and jugglers being the best for me. Everyone I needed something from was just as helpful as could be. We never could figure out how to IM each other without the ship internet package though...I asked several tech people and no such luck. But we made it through... As far as excursions go, the best day was Labadee!!!!!! Some snorkeled, some zip lined, and I just floated on the water mat!! That's was the best part and worth every penny. We ended up at Adventure Beach I believe...over by the floating bar...at the last trolly strop on the route...We just sunned, drank and relaxed....I could have spent about 2 days there and forgone San Juan to tell the truth!! Disembarking today was as easy as day one...you get bag tags w/ numbers on them, directions on where and what time to meet on the ship the morning of, and they call your number to leave the ship. You go down the plank to a big warehouse to find your luggage (look for the number placards that are on your baggage tags...grab your luggage, zip through customs (looked at passports, asked us if we had fun, but didn't look custom info on the APP), and down we went to the parking lot...All of 45 min max from the time we showed up to the time we were in our cars!!!! Paid the parking fee and off we were back to the real world... Some things I would like to se RC do better is: update to where you can IM on the ship without the internet package. Incorporate some port info on the APP...like it would have been great to have a map of Labadee before we got off the island..my daughter was on crutches (due to an injury the week prior to sailing) and we didn't know how far it was and all to get her to the snorkeling excursion, and then back to our area on the beach..They have maps once you get off the pier, but that's about 200 or so yards away...Info like that ahead of time would have been helpful..Locations of bars, restrooms and such on the app would have been helpful. But thats a minor thing to a great vacation.. Sorry this is long, but once I started writing it's hard to stop sharing what a great trip we had. And like I said, this site...and Youtube, had a lot of helpful info and I want to contribute something.. If anyone has any specific questions, feel free to ask and I'll try to give as much detail as possible.... Kevin
  11. This is a question I always see on this board..."How early does ____ open for booking?" Today I logged into my CP and saw that everything, except entertainment, is open for my March 2019 cruise on Harmony. That is a whole 283 days out! And dining was actually out before at 328 days out! On the Harmony FB group, some are reporting that their packages are now open for June 2019 sailings. So it just goes to show again that there is no rhyme or reason to it.
  12. Yay! So I booked my first EVER cruise! I am booked on a 12 day Ovation of the Seas from Sydney around New Zealand! The itineraries were released this past week. Thanks to the many people who have posted on these forums as I have lurked and learned from you all! I chose Ovation and leaned toward RCL because of these boards and Ovation was the newest ship in the area (though I think Princess Majestic might be newer). As an aviation geek I can definitely tell the difference between plane types but, I didn't know much about cruising and ships but these forums helped heaps and I am still learning! So I wanted to share a perspective from a Noob when booking a new cruise and hope to share my experience cruising in the future! Negative reviews: There are bound to be some rough currents; meaning, there are ALWAYS going to be whiners and grumps that complain about everything so take these with a grain of salt Positive reviews: There are going to be some over the top fabulousness reviews where everything was awesome...can everything REALLy be THAT awesome...also take these with a grain of salt. Research what cabin you want BEFORE bookings come out. I knew what cabin I wanted based on what was above, below, to the sides and even based on foot traffic and those whited out areas (which I avoided). I booked a forward balcony and it was only 200 more on the TOTAL, not per night. UNFORTUNATELY, the cabin I wanted wasn't showing up online. I wanted deck 9 and there was only one for the whole deck 9 and sailings were just released! I wanted starboard side but had to choose the only deck 9 cabin on the port! (more on this below) BOOK EARLY! I am not using an agent as I like to be in control. I booked via rcl.com Gratuities: for our 12 night cruise gratuities were added on by my choice just before payment and were clearly stated if you wanted to pay now or later. I opted to pay now and just pay the minimum deposit. Gratuities were $222 per person. On the same page it asks for traditional dining which gave the choice of 1730 or 2000. We chose 1730 because we also want to have time to go to the buffet later at night, oink! There was an option for my time dining but seems too much hassle for our first cruise. Keep up on Sales! So the day AFTER we booked our cruise RCL started a new promotion and of course got an email. I took the advice from many on here and did a dummy booking to see if it was cheaper and sure enough it was $256 CHEAPER! I did what Matt and you guys said to do and called up on my lunch break and with no waiting the girl on the phone said yes it is cheaper and she changed it for free! YAY! BUT WAIT....I wanted a specific cabin and asked politely if it were available because it wasn't showing on the website. She said is was available and saw it was the same price category and SCORE! We were now on the starboard side! EMAIL DINING: I emailed dining about a 2 topper. (like the lingo?) They replied and said that things were loaded about 50 days before sailing! So I will request again later. Thanks again for all info on these forums. No question (no matter how many times I saw asked) went unanswered. Cheers!
  13. I'm first-time sailing on the Liberty of the Seas on May 13. When I try to reserve my dining times through the Cruise Planner, it says we are "not configured for mytime dining." So I don't know what time we are scheduled for, and I can't find it in my reservation. Where would I See that information? or would I have to call RC? Thanks!
  14. Hello! First time cruiser here - am curious about a few things. 1. We booked our cruise (Adventure of the Seas, 7 nights, leaving July 6, 2018) through Expedia - I cannot figure out if dining gratuities are included. If not, what is the cost associated with 7 nights? 2. How does my time dining work? I see you can book a time to reserve your main dining room table every night. Can you choose different times each night? What happens if you change your plans and don't show up? Are you charged? Will they cancel future times? 3. To clarify - the buffet and main dining room are included in the cost of your cruise. Only specialty restaurants will be an additional charge? Thank you in advance! I am a crazy Disney World trip planner so I don't know how I didn't realize similar planning would need to happen for a cruise!
  15. Hi again folks, What are your top picks for specialty dining? Any input will be great...maybe rank venues from best to worst (although it sounds like Sorrento's has a lock on that). Also would like to hear about that favorite dish you absolutely must have when on board. Thanks, Jane
  16. Hey, everyone! My family and I just got off of our second Royal Caribbean cruise. There were two waiters that were really special and helped make the cruise so enjoyable for the family, and we're trying to locate them. My family is hoping to be able to connect on Facebook or something. I don't have complete names, but will include what info I have and if anyone can help I'd appreciate it! Both waiters were on the Brilliance of the Seas as of just last week. The first waiter all I have is a last name : Abadi. The second- I believe is from Mexico. His first name is Juan, and last name either Campos or Compos.. somehow I missed his middle name. I think both were headwaiters. Thank you so much!
  17. Hi! Going on a cruise with my husband and parents in May on Allure of the Seas. My dad just bought the Izumi Hibachi Experience dinner for the first night of the cruise. I just wanted to make sure - is this a flat charge or will we have to pay for additional things as well? I've included a snippet of what it looks like on the cruise planner. I was just making sure, because I thought Izumi was a la carte pricing and you had to pay for what you wanted. Oh - and we are going on Allure of the Seas. Thanks!!
  18. This will be our first RC cruise. We are going on the Vision of the Seas as part of a large group. I've been trying to figure out the food situation on the ship as to whats free and what times you can eat. On carnival you could eat buffets almost anytime it seems. I purchased a Deluxe Package but i was wondering What beers are available? Im more into craft beers or something with more flavor than budlight. Also when we bring our 2 bottles of wine do we get to keep them in the rooms? Thanks
  19. Hi Everyone, So a recent hiccup in our upcoming vacation (ONE MONTH OUT!) Is that my missus is in need of surgery for Galstones. The surgery should be late fall when we are home from the cruise. She is doing okay, as we tend to eat a pretty low fat selection most of the time. Its only when we go out somewhere awesome (and high fat) that she has issues, mainly intense pain. We are trying to avoid that on our upcoming cruise! I have heard that RCCL does a healthy menu option (for people with dietary needs/issues) Is there a Low Fat menu available? It doesn't need to be crazy low fat, but the truth is that she will be happier and healthier if we limit our splurges to occasional on the cruise. Also, does anyone else have experience ordering Low Fat requests onboard? Thanks!
  20. On other lines we've travelled with, we've been able to give a preference for table size in the main dining room. Does this happen with Royal Caribbean? As it's just we two, we enjoy dining with others to give a little variety, but a table of 4 is too small (awkward if you don't get on!), but, equally, we don't want to be lost on a table of 12 like we're at a noodle bar! 6 or 8 is always our preference - can this be taken into account, or is it just a case of keeping our fingers crossed?
  21. At the risk of sounding stupid here would someone mind explaining to me the differences between MTD and Traditional dining. We always travel as just the two of us and of the dozen cruises we have been on we have never eaten in the MD. We choose to eat at the specialty restaurants (Love Chops!) or Windjammer, or Johnny Rockets, etc most of the time. Reading all of the discussion here in various posts about the MD I am starting to feel like we are missing out on that experience. We have not eaten in the MD for for 2 reasons; 1) We prefer to eat by ourselves. Like everyone else vacation time and $ to spend on them are a precious resource and for us it is time to spend together and we just prefer dining that way. 2) The tables for 2, from what I have seen, always seem to be in awkward areas in such large rooms. I have noticed some that look like they are in what we would consider a better spot. With traditional dining you get assigned to one table for the cruise right? Does MTD give you any flexibility in choosing a table for the week? Anyone else have experience in dining for just two? Thanks in advance for any info/guidance.
  22. Just found this while searching for an example full wine list at Vintages. It's a good use of technology, not sure how long ago they released this video as there's no date I could find on the page, also not sure if / when this is being rolled out to the rest of the fleet. Should be an easy thing to apply fleet-wide as it doesn't require anything more than getting the iPads and iPod Touches and installing the apps / integrating to the ship's SeaPass card system. https://www.royalcaribbeanpresscenter.com/video/182/savvy-sommelier-digital-menus-at-vintages/ You can now order wines via iPad, and the order is transmitted to iPod Touch units carried by the wine tenders. It will recommend wines based on your existing tastes, and everything is displayed in a much wider selection of languages than RCI could manage with printed menus. And if you order in, say, German, that order shows up translated to the English equivalent on the wine tender's iPod Touch (or, I'd assume, whatever language that person set as their preference). Apologies if this was actually posted a while back. Searched this forum before posting, didn't find anything.
  23. We are booked on a 14 night New Zealand cruise in January on Radiance, and would like to dine at Specialty restaurants 4 nights. There is a considerable saving to be had booking the 4 Night Dining Package vs booking each individually, but you only get to choose a time for day 1 or 2. We will be travelling with our kids (who do well dining at nice restaurants), so would ideally like to be eating early - around 6pm. Does anyone have any experience on how difficult it is to book specific times once onboard? I'm hoping that over the 14 nights we would be able to find suitable times for the other 3 meals - but would we be better biting the bullet and booking them all at full price?
  24. Hi All, Thanks for taking the time to read the post and I appreciate any comments. On one of the podcast I believe Matt mentioned that under some circumstances it's possible to take some food from the main dining room back to your room to eat later (like if you aren't feeling great or something like that). Sometimes I'm too full for dessert but I eat it anyway because ... you can't miss out on dessert on a cruise! I was wondering if its possible to maybe take the dessert or something back to the room to enjoy later instead of eating it when I am so full. Similarly, at the specialty dinning restaurants I have heard the desserts are wonderful. Can you take a dessert for later from a specialty restaurant? Thanks again!
  25. Thought I'd post this here. On the last podcast Matt talked about my love of specialty dining. This is from the original thread from 2010 I posted on Cruise Critic titled, The Almost Complete Food Lovers Guide to the Oasis of the Seas. I put it into one document. It's a bit dated by now, but I think it's still useful for anyone wondering about specialty dining on Oasis class or pretty much any Royal Caribbean ship. If anyone has questions about dining, I'd be very glad to help. The Almost Complete Food Lovers Guide.pdf
