  1. It's funny you say that because Appleton was precisely what I was thinking of! Fortunately, the finest liquor on the planet is made right here in the U.S. or A. (Jack Danials!) but would be fun to grab some local flavors as well.
  2. Two thoughts: I see a lot of folks trying to determine of the drink package is worth it by simply aksing can I frink xx number of drinks per day. But they seem to be counting only alcohol. Assuming you are also drinking coffee with breakfast, a few waters and maybe a soda or two, you really shouldn't need to drink that many alcoholic drinks per day to reach the target I would think.... Second; How do they handle alcohol you buy in ports? Do you simply turn those bottles over when you re-board? I am thinking I might want to buy a bottle of tequila in Mexico and a bottle of rum in Jamaica. Though part of me asks, "Why bother?" Except for saving a little bit on "duty", I am pretty sure anything worth drinking I could have just bought at my local liquor store.....
  3. Sort of a follow-on question; I am an amateur astronomer.....any suggestion where (besides my own balcony) I might find the darkest place on the boat (outside of course!)?
  4. It appears from RC's own site that curling irons and straighteners are specifically ALLOWED http://www.royalcaribbean.com/customersupport/faq/details.do?pagename=frequently_asked_questions&pnav=5&pnav=2&faqType=faq&faqSubjectId=333&faqSubjectName=Onboard+Policies&faqId=2608
  5. Cool! Then that promo would give me the exact same savings as the current one! No need to bargain for a while!
  6. My wife works with a lady who has done several RC cruises. She says it is legit, so I guess I will trust him
  7. Greetings, Made my first reservation last night (a combination of on-line and calling RCCL) today I get an e-mail from some guy claiming "I have been assigned as your certified vacation planner at Royal Caribbean". Is this legit? Is this what normally happens?
  8. So I couldnt leave well enough alone and finally was able to log back into the planner. Cool feature....that excursion I played with but never finished with payment shows up on "My Calendar" but is patterned so I know its not paid for and conveniently includes a checkout button. It looks like for now my Janauy 7th cruise is accepting shore excursions and spa treatments but not dining, activities, entertainment etc.
  9. O.K. so I ignored advice (dumb) and booked my reservation on-line (sorta). For starters there a number of technical glitches with the reservation process. As a software developer of 35 years I pay attention to this sort of stuff and most of it is "repeatable". For example, we tried to reserve three rooms. The software then randomly placed our rooms on 3 different decks. No biggie....so far. next came the panels where they ask for passenger info for each room. Notice on the right side of page it shows the room assignment for the room your are currently assigning people to. It includes an "edit" button that supposedly will let you change your room assignment .......DONT DO IT!!! It will look like all is well..but when you finish entering the last passenger, instead of moving on to the next step in the reservation it kicks you all the way out to the cruise selection screen and all your work is lost! Wait to edit the rooms until you are past the initial passenger info screens. In any event, after wrestling with it (took a good 6 tries), I finally had everything as I wanted it and paid. Success!!!!....oh wait! My date somehow is wrong (admittedly that might have been my fault after 6 tries). No need to panic. Called RC and talked to a very nice man who worked to move us to the right day.....but right in the middle of reassigning our first room, his phone disconnected. I know it was on his end because my call timer continued to increment. So...call again! This time things went very well and at long last I had my reservations, rooms I was happy with etc. So time to explore "Cruise Planner". God news! Excursions seem to be there! ...Bad news...dining is not. Worked my way thru booking one excursion just to see the process and confirm we can use different credit cards. Looks good! Now how about......Wait...what suddenly happened?? It wants my logon info again. Okay, type it in....hit enter....What? It throws me to the customer support screen. Make several more attempts before giving up for the night. Sigh.......now about the TA.......
  10. Made my reswrvation tonight and it proved impossible to get a superior mid-ship on deck 8 so we went with the deluxe
  11. Need a quick answer. About to book my very first cruise tonight. It will be for 7 nights. The superior Balcony room is 15 sq ft bigger, but other than that I cant figure out ay difference between the two "grades" (except for the $80 price difference). Any other difference?
  12. Okay, really silly question but my son (age 23) has this idea that one night he will go sleep under the stars on the deck.....is that even allowed? What can I say, once a Eagle Scout always an Eagle Scout
  13. I looked at some of the compass's posted on this site (thanks!). Do you get a single day's compass each day? Or get them all at once. I ask because I know there are "sales" periodically on the ship, but how do you know what stores will have sales, and when, if you only have the compass for the next day?
  14. Both my kids (adults) love sushi. Is the sushi on the Jade buffet (Liberty) free? I get the impression it is but one place on the RC pages says something to the effect of "sushi is free except for Jade and Izuma". Seems contradictory to say it's free except for the one place you can get it!
  15. I have read a lot of folks saying to use a TA but I just cant get comfortable with the idea. I suppose if some TA website said right up what benefits" they throw in I would be tempted, but so far they all require I call first. In the meantime, like one person wrote above, I almost went with cruiseit.com after watching some really good videos of theirs on-line (specifically fro Liberty of the Seas) but then read awful reviews (of cruiseone.com which seems to be the parent company). I just know with my personality if I actually call someone I will stick with them even if I am not thrilled by the offer (I know, I have no spine!). I will most likely book straight with RC later this week when my credit card finally shows up.
  16. Greetings All, First, thanks to Matt for straightening out my verification process. Getting ready to book my very first cruise and I have rad a lot out here about rebooking your cruise when discounts occur. How does this work. Assume that I don't use a travel agent. If I book my trip next weekend (after BOGO expires) and then later a good sale occurs, how so I take advantage? Do I simply call and cancel, and then start all over? Does that mean I lose my rooms and have to repick new ones etc.? Do I have to make a new deposit and wait for my old deposit to be refunded?
