The Army Corp of Engineers is planning on having the entire channel reopened by the end of May.

$200 towards airfare changes is pretty weak. Last minute prices could easily be a lot more than $200 more.
Two weeks ago I changed a flight to fly in for a cruise a day earlier to avoid bad weather and I paid like $275 more for the new flight.

This is tragic. The first video I saw clearly showed the ship losing electrical power twice. But it looked to me like she was already not in the channel. I suspect the cascade of events goes back before the power outages seen on the bridge webcam.

It's a nightmare scenario for everyone involved. There will likely be pressure to clear the debris and open the channel as quickly as possible. I hope they don't do that until they've recovered every person possible. Their families deserve that.

I'm supposed to be on the Vision on 4/4.   I can let you know what they have to say once I get told anything.

While I do wonder what RC will do (odds they will move this ship to NYC), but right now I am praying to for everyone

Even worse if there were 2 harbor pilots on board.

Love that channel, that guy is so good at breaking down shipping issues. This is right up his alley.

Best analysis / rundown is from "What is going on with shipping" on YouTube:

Man that must of been scary for the ship crew too. I mean scary and helpless. ☹️ If they lost power they had no way to navigate the ship and no way to avoid. They saw it coming in slow motion. 😭

There is no way that the debris will be cleared by the time they get back. My money is that they will be diverted to NYC or Norfolk and bussed back to Baltimore.

A tragedy for those few people on the bridge. Luckily it wasn’t during rush hour. Those pilots are going to have a lot of questions to answer.

markinct reacted to Doug_Texas in Labadee rumor
We have been to Labadee many times and love it.  The speculation regarding how unlikely it is that the unrest would affect Labadee is a mute discussion.  The U.S. State department has said there are hundreds of U.S. citizens in Haiti wanting to leave and they have no plans to rescue them (said in briefing today, 3/15).   If there was a negative passenger outcome at Labadee with this backdrop, RCL could potentially face hundreds of millions of dollars in civil damages from gross negligence for passenger outcomes including wrongful death.  Legally, the risk of this outcome would be deemed "foreseeable" with Royal breaching it's standard of care.  Royal had no choice.  Passengers can't assume the risk, Royal owns the risk.  Frankly, I'm surprised the Royal lawyers took this long.
I love Labadee and hope the situation is resolved soon.

We did the gold star service in 2022. It was utterly fabulous. The rear of the car had an observation area that was open to the outside air. The views were fantastic and we met some interesting people. The staff on the train were informative in a very friendly way.
There's a service called Orange Bike Delivery in Seward. They can take your bags from the cruise port to the train. It's a family run business that took very good care of us (and our mountain of baggage!) The hauled our stuff from the port to a hotel we spent the night at, then picked up from the hotel and delivered to the train station.

I can't tell you what the Royal excursion includes but Goldstar definitely includes food and the dome windows.
I took the train all the way from Fairbanks to Seward (with several stops in between) before a Southbound cruise in 2018 so I'm pretty familiar with the train but our land portion wasn't booked through RC.
