Gears got a reaction from Bazza in Personal Wine
@BazzaB2B turn around days involve disembarking the ship and going through a brief customs exercise and getting back on the ship. You don't actually leave the terminal. If you are in the same stateroom, you don't have to do anything packing wise. If you are different stateroom, a basic pack and they move everything for you.
You can leave the terminal and come back of course. But if you're going to shop for wine the cost for a cab, the wait and dealing with the crowds might not be worth it to search out another set of wine carry on.
Unless of course you're building up a 'banked credit' being the wine hero with you wife...

Gears reacted to Lovetocruise2002 in YOLO!
I am beyond excited! I have to share this news with my RC Blog family! As some of you know already know from reading my posts, star class has been on my radar for a while now. I was never able to do it though for various reasons, either kids too young or work or price too crazy.
Anyway, as @WAAAYTOOO mentioned in another post, yesterday I noticed early in the morning there was a STAR discount of $1000. I had my eye on upgrading my Anthem sailing next month to the GLS but sadly I moved too slow and it was gone.
Because I am obsessive by nature, and also persistent, I knew that I wanted to take advantage of the $1000 discount which ends at midnight. So this morning, I was able to find (although I'm not sure what I signed up for) a 2BDR ATS-GTY for about $3400pp on none other than my favourite ship ever-Harmony! I did not hesitate this time because for a March break sailing, I knew that price was a no brainer. I am just praying that I guessed the correct dates for march break 2019 because the school calendar doesn't even come out for another two months.
I am beyond excited but I have never done a guarantee room on anything before. So I am not sure what I will end up with. Any thoughts anyone? But as @WAAAYTOOO put it, the worst I can get is an A2 on deck 10 and even that is amazing! Only 403 days left but who's counting!

Hi @Sabrinaklai
Our 'real plan' is take on the 6 bottles we are allowed and then purchase the odd bottle whenever required. Or a beer or short etc. She is not a big big drinker so can't justify the deluxe package (and me having to prove I don't drink too!) so we are both doing refreshment packages. Based on the pics Twangster posted there are not enough days in the year to try every soft drink option!
Annoying thing is we can take on 2 bottles for a 3 day cruise as well as 2 for the 10 and 14 day ones! I am not sure she can make them last 10 or 14 days!!
Maybe I need to find a couple or family who are getting on same time without wine and get them to be my wine mule!!

Well, that's pretty deceiving. Just like the buy one get one 50% off drink packages.

Interesting how something so simple as pizza can generate such keen interest from cruisers. 4 pages worth of comments in just over a month. You'd think someone said you weren't allowed to wear shorts while eating it or something...

This is an excellent point.
At one time we were first time cruisers and I can certainly tell you...if I knew then what I know now...many things would have been 'better' from a customer experience point of view. We're D+ and I have to visually sift through the Cruise Planner stuff to get through the refuse to what we want. If I was a newbie, so to speak, it wouldn't be difficult to not click on something without knowing any better.
If someone has the money to throw off the back of the ship (aka VIP Mamma Mia!) please let me know...my wife and I are always looking to be adopted by exactly such fine folks.

Gears got a reaction from LetsTryThisPlace in Deluxe Drink Packages
So here's the subject line from the e-mail verbatim: EXCLUSIVE! It's a special announcement for you: Save big before you board.
The Deluxe Beverage Package is priced $3 more than it was last week (when it was $47). Aren't I special! Nothing else has changed...but it's EXCLUSIVE!. SMH...RE

Gears reacted to monctonguy in New Paid Option for Shows in the Main Theater
Never would do that.....cruise lines will sooner or later have to realize they cant charge extra for EVERYTHING!
That used to be one of the things about cruising right?...you had access to everything and anything for the cruise price. But now, everything is becoming nickeled and dimed. I can assure you they made almost nothing off me on any cruise. I get my foods worth (I don't pay for "special" meals) and I defn end up lowering the cost of my drinks to about $4/drink based on my consumption...lol
But, I will never pay to see a bunch of cruise singers and dancers..sorry..."free" drink or not included......smdh

Fake news. :) You can buy a bottle of wine on board (MDR for example), take it with you and leave it in your stateroom...opened.
Your stateroom is not a public area.

I totally agree with this. Most of us here are onto them but looking at other boards and posts, there are so many out there who have no idea. And like @PrincipalTinker mentioned, it can be confusing for many first timers.

This is as laughable as paying for the cup cake decorating class...or the MDR cookbook.
Looks like our sailings on the Allure have the 'free' option and the insider 'watch your wallet' version of Mama Mia!. Unfortunately...I am being forced to go...only because my wife is a massive ABBA fan. Will need to bring my sunglasses so she can't see my eyes closed whilst napping.

Gears reacted to monorailmedic in The outbreak of sicknesses on several RC ships
It's crazier - you're actually 35x more likely to get Norovirus on land. Check my link in the 4th post in this thread (don't wanna spam everyone with the link). I was shocked while doing the research - I figured it was overblown, but I'd never have guessed that you're so much less likely to get Noro on a cruise ship than elsewhere. All of that in mind, I do realize it's cold-comfort to someone who falls ill on vacation.
