    Hang on a minute...
Your first post says "So we made what we thought was the best decision and canceled our trip."
Your second post says: "If things were different and we canceled then I can see them keeping the deposit."

Any and all 'Port Shopping' seminars...
One of our first cruises...naively thought this was a good idea. Ended up being "Make sure you visit the Diamonds International and pick yourself up some rare crap-o-lite jewelry!". Curious how there is a Diamonds International at every port of call...

Some of the Voyager class are popular charter ships in the winter after Xmas.  There is a car dealership that offers a free cruise with a car purchase and a few other companies that like the Voyager class to charter.  Smaller, cheaper, easier to fill, amplified, cheaper in winter, etc.
Charters are a definite down side to Royal.  I've had a number of charter takeovers and it does completely mess up plans including the January 2022 Oasis date.  I'm secretly hoping that masks are still required just to mess this charter up.  ?

One thing I will never do again - book an Oasis class ship in the month of January.  There is a lifestyle group that charters an O class ship every January and they got me this year (along with @twangsterif I'm not mistaken).  It really screwed up my B3B Star Class cruises !  They chartered the Oasis for the middle leg so I now have to come back after the first leg, go home for a week, come back for the second leg (which originally was the THIRD leg), change rooms and stay on for an extra week now.  What a complete PITA.  I will steer clear of any O class ship in January from now on.

I won't sail through Port Everglades without having my NEXUS/Global Entry card. Similar to pp, it speeds everything up in the arrivals hall and allows you to book earlier flight times. You also get TSA precheck which, if I'm being honest, hasn't provided too much in terms of time savings at FLL. At YYZ I've saved over an hour versus my colleagues when we've flown out for business.

It will be interesting to see how the vaccine is being rolled out throughout the Caribbean.
It's one thing to reach a point where the CDC will let ships sail but they need somewhere to sail to.  When will each nation in the Caribbean have enough of their population vaccinated where they'll open their ports to arriving cruise ships?

As a Canadian and Healthcare professional I would say I do know more than the Government of Canada (most 7 year olds do). The reason they are telling you being vaccinated does not guarantee you cannot spread the virus and therefore should still wear a mask is the fact that was not part of the clinical trials and not studied.

Common sense really, if you are happy to cruise with measures and restrictions in place then book a cruise for 2021, if you dont want so many restrictions in place then dont book it for 2021 leave it for 2022 and hope things are back to some sort of normality by then ?
One thing he missed out though, if you book a cruise for 2021 and dont enjoy it due to all the restrictions dont bloody moan about it lol

LOL...what??!...IF the vaccines prevents you from getting Covid, then you cant spread what you don't have!!!!!....

On the other hand, if you get Covid..then the vaccine didn't work AND of course you can transmit it....

Please tell me all about the other vaccines we have that have eradicated certain diseases......but you could still get the disease and spread it if you had the vaccine......

Not in Canada..they had told us numerous times from our Chief Medical officer that the vaccines does NOT mean that you can't get it or spread it....that's why masks and social distancing will remain the norm for at least a year and they will not relax restrictions any time soon. This is all over every news channel, government website, Health sites, news sites etc.....

Do YOU know more than all the doctors and scientists and the government in Canada?

Even if vaccinated...you are still locked down and made to wear a mask and stay home here in Canada...perhaps different countries are telling their people different things.

I am not a scientist..I am just like the rest of the sheep, taking commands and obeying our fearless leaders who know all. Even vaccinated people can carry and spread it..that's been pretty common news/doctor speak here in Canada now ever since the vaccines have been made available.

    Few points on this:
Cruise lines already have some boilerplate language in their cruise passenger contracts that states passengers are responsible for having all vaccinations required by destination ports before boarding (e.g., you need a "yellow card" in your passport when traveling to Ghana, showing you got the required Yellow Fever vaccination; not the best example when there are no cruises to Ghana that I'm aware of, but it's a real example my daughter ran into). So even if the cruise lines themselves don't make any explicit statements about this, and even allow you to board without any proof at all, you could find yourself stuck on board when you get to the destination port of your dreams because they require proof of vaccination and you never got the vaccine or brought whatever proof was needed.

Be sure to do all due diligence about your destination ports before boarding, and if you want to be able to cancel with full refund then do it before final payment date.
Be reassured that while the news about people having anaphylaxis reactions to the shot are making big headlines, the actual percentage of people this is happening to is quite small compared to the number of shots already given. High single-digit / barely double-digit numbers of allergic reactions, vs. hundreds of thousands of injections so far. The concern is mostly coming from the fact that some of the people who've had bad reactions never reacted to a vaccine shot before now. Scientists are already scrambling to put together a study and isolate the cause, so we'll likely have an initial answer in a few months.
I realize that cruising out of the US is a big focus here because we're principally a US- and Canada-based forum; but keep in mind that even if the US takes an extra year to get our spit together, cruising out of other countries (IMO) has a much better chance of getting back in shape by next summer simply because those other countries have been getting their spit together and working their butts off to keep cases decently low. Now that the vaccine is going out, I think there'll be a better shot of being able to take a cruise overseas next year than we'll ever see out of the US; but you can bet your bippy that the government of whatever country you sail out of in '21 (and quite possibly '22) will be demanding proof of vaccination before letting you in, no matter what country you hail from.

Gears reacted to twangster in Research Firm Estimates When Ships Will Sail
Keep in mind this appears to be a company that does research but may not have extensive experience with the cruise industry.  They went through investors calls, talked with travel agents and reviewed orders from public health agencies then ran projections using who knows what algorithms.
Many on the internet have also looked at some of the same material and with equally uninformed public health experience or industry experience we made our own projections.  At least some of us have been on a cruise ship before.
It's one estimation, no more or less valid that any other estimation.  Only time will tell which of us has guessed or estimated more accurately.

As long as it's a new ship for us, we buy a magnet and a Christmas tree ornament (if they have one). Our tchotchke cabinet is already full, so I've never been able to convince the missus to buy one of the regular ship models. ?
And then we take full advantage of the T-shirt sale to get either a port-specific or ship-specific shirt. Port ones only if we didn't find any we liked in the port's local shops.
