Nothing wrong with being near Buckee's

If you don't pick a shore excursion, what do you do in port? For instance, when we go to Grand Cayman, we stroll over to the Paradise Cafe. I ordered a cheeseburger so I could say I had a cheeseburger in paradise! Actually, i usually get the local beer and conch fritters.

I am particularly interested in Cozumel, Roatan, and Belize City. But I'd love to hear what "no excursion" people do in port for fun.

    Thanks!

We are getting excited about our holiday cruise! Already booked lots of activities, including restaurants and Chef's Table -- Who else is going, and what are your plans?

My wife and I cruised on Navigator of the Seas November 2015  -- Our first experience with Royal Caribbean. Loved the promenade concept of the ship -- That was really a focal point. However, the very best thing about the ship was the California Wine Pairing dinner we had at the Chops Grille. Wonderful! We are cruising on the Liberty of the Seas December 2016, and the very first thing we signed up for was the Chef's Table Dinner. We are looking forward to it.

What are the coolest or most unique things you have found about the ships you have been on? I am particularly interested in Liberty, but eager to hear what everyone thinks.

We always stay in Galveston at the very least the night before we board.

I've been on two cruises on the same ship, but with different embarcation ports and different destination ports. However, our cruises out of Galveston seem to visit the same destination ports. That's OK -- I don't love the ports so much that I am repeating them: it's more that the ship is a bigger part of the experience for us: The floating luxury hotel for a week. And the ship rotations have kept that pretty fresh for us!

I've always brought a tux. We never do formal pictures on land, so having the tux means we have Christmas Card pics for a few years.

UkuleleCruiser reacted to Todd in Photo prices?
The photos are offered as single prints, CD, or in packages. The packages can be CD only, prints only, or CD and Prints. The pricing is high for the packages and depends upon the length of the cruise. The total package, all prints and CD is $249 to $399 but discounts are offered for C & A and some on the ship like $50 off package promo.

But if you want to purchase a single photo the price is around $30. They also seem to offer a package of a few photos for around $100 dollars. The photo package can be a good deal if you have them take many photos. Reynaline loves photos so while is may seem like a very costly package with 100 to 200 pictures per cruise the costs is much more reasonable per picture.

It's as formal as you'd like to make it. Dress shirt and tie to formal suit or tux. I've submitted the suit and even a blazer for just a dead shirt and tie.

    1.  Being on board with many friends that continually sail out of Galveston.
    2.  The friendly crew, always willing to help.
    3.  The new water slides.
    4.  Sabor's restaurant.
    5.  Not true Voom, but better Wifi service than in the past

Have been on liberty 14 times since it came to Galveston.  4 before dry dock and 10 since dry dock.  If you have any ship related questions, just ask.  You will enjoy the ship and especially the crew if you take the time to talk to them.

We have booked our second ever cruise on the Liberty of the Seas out of Galveston in early 2017.  (Our first cruise was on the Oasis).
I am looking for all kinds of hints, tips, and tidbits about the ship, shows, and sailing out of Galveston you may have.  I read a LOT about the other ship before sailing but don't seem to find as much information about this one.  Of course everyone's opinion is their own and I am certainly not looking for a debate, I would just like to know what you liked best or least.  Where are hidden gems or nuggets on board.  If it wasn't for the boards I would have never known about the late night shows like the Love and Marriage etc.  We booked traditional dining this time.....good move? What time is best?  Best dishes to get.  Which dining location is recommended?

Thanks in advance...looking forward to reading responses.

For cruising out of Galveston you may find this thread helpful:

You picked a great ship! I have been on her twice and have her booked for two more future cruises. One of the best things about Liberty and other RCL ships is the entertainment. We loved the shows and the Liberty of the Seas orchestra was a favorite of mine. They have a very good country band (sailing out of Texas of course). And of course you will get to see Saturday Night Fever, a full length musical production with live orchestra.

I do a live Periscope broadcast of her departure from Galveston on most Sunday afternoons around 4 pm Central time. My periscope name is @GalvestonSteve.

Definitely look at Steve's information. Also know that it is sometimes cheaper to rent a car and pay fort parking at the port than to use some of these shuttle services, so price it both ways if flying in. We camber in a couple of days early, hit the spacer center, and enjoyed Galveston.

Liberty is awesome, we're going back for a second time in Feb 2017!

You can all the way up to the tip of the bow. It's great for the sail away. Go to deck 4 and go forward as far as you can, go up the stairs and forward.

The Tidal Wave slide is a lot of fun. It's faster than it looks. Minimum weight is 100 and max is 240 per person.

As you probably experienced in Oasis, you can't do everything, but you can sure try!

    Enjoy!

I can only comment on my own experiences with the guac-making. The person who made the guac (usually not the server) brought the cart right up to our table. We chose what ingredients we wanted, how much of each and how much we wanted.

Each experience has always been completely delicious.
