  1. As far as the other slide goes. The death on the Kansas water slide this past summer reinforces my aversion to water slides.

Not judging you, because we all have our own aversions and thoughts on everything.  As an example, you will not catch me skydiving no matter how many people tell me it is safe/fun!

I believe the slides on RC are plenty safe and what happened in Kansas should not stop anyone from trying these slides.  I can't wait to do it myself.

  2. It may also be useful to join a roll call like the ones through Cruise Critic. That way, you can make connections with some of the other families and kids that will be onboard. We did this for our Baltics cruise and it worked out well as we arranged excursions with others families that had children.

I agree the roll calls are a good idea, but in my experience, it is dominated by older people.  Having been to many CC meet and mingles, I have very rarely seen kids there, let alone people under the age of 50.  Having experienced that, it does explain some of the negative reviews I also happen to read on CC, but I digress.

  3. I think not:

I am still looking forward to sailing on this ship next week. It seems that they have their act together now...Hopefully.

CC reviews are not gospel.  Have you ever been to a CC MM on a ship? Average age is about 72.

You can find negative reviews on CC about every Royal Caribbean ship.  I will still take a cruise on Empress over a day at work!

  4. It's the airfare for me as well, but then that's always the case for us Canadians....

Vacation time is not an issue, neither is family.

Airfare ranges normally from $600-800 to get to anwyhere in Flordia.

Once you add on the single occ additonal cost for me, a $189 cruise is at least $1500. Once you add  hotel overnite, shuttles and drink packages....its $2000.

Thats why I have had to stick to 4 day cruises for around the $200 mark.

While a 7 day cruise on Oasis or Allure would be a dream for me, it would also be a bank breaking vacation of somwhere around $4000

But it still tempts me everytime I see a deal like that... :(

I know what you mean about airfare.  I remember 10-15 years ago when prices for airfare were so much more affordable.  I hate how the airlines have made things so expensive for regular people.

  5. Good news for those that like the casinos

    From http://www.travelweekly.com/Cruise-Travel/Cruise-ships-in-Bermuda-permitted-to-open-casinos-at-night/?cid=eltrdb

Ministers in Bermuda approved legislation allowing cruise ships to open their casinos during the evening while still docked.

In exchange, the government will get a license fee for ships that carry more than 2,000 passengers.

Casinos could only open between 9 p.m. and 5 a.m. and only for passengers, not for residents of Bermuda.
