johnny rockets - please explain it to me
fonemanbob replied to cjappert's topic in Royal Caribbean Dining
I totally agree with the other posts. There is nothing like a cheeseburger onion rings and a chocolate shake for a change of pace. Especially on a sea day to break the monotony of the usual food you are used to being served. Then again their is nothing like a cheese burger from Billy Goat Tavern in Chicago. With Park Ave and so many other venues to choose from it"s not the end of the world if you don"t get to Johnny Rockets. -
Most importantly besides all of the above which are excellent points. To Klaconqueso : CONGRATULATIONS on your upcoming nuptials. And GO BUCS.

Elevators. No way. We do stairs always. I have had a knee and a hip replaced and we still do stairs. Am I in good shape no, but no crowds and the exercise helps immensely. And the wife despises the glass elevators. L.O.L. I enjoyed being on Oasis not the Mrs. But whatever class of ship you are on you will encounter crowds at some point and time. That"s the nature of the beast and actually have met some wonderful people during those crowded moments.

Chops Grille vs Chops Grille California Vineyards
fonemanbob replied to Mrsbeaker1127's topic in Royal Caribbean Dining
The chefs table has paired wines as well. we ddi Chefs table on our last cruise and I drank most of the wife"s as she did not care for some of them. A point mentioned by DocLC. To have two dinners with paired wines might have been a bit much but then again it is a great way to find out about different types of wines. Personally we love Chops and are doing it it 4 nights on Brilliance in a few weeks. They have absolutely awesome steaks and impeccable service. Plus the fact that they are now offering aged steaks for a small additional fee is something we might try at least once. -
I know what ship we are going on next. A nice way to celebrate doing the Diamond Dance. Yes we prefer gin and vodka but on occasion there is nothing like a cold beer albeit of not the usual brands offered.
-
Absolutely agree on the above comments. By the way there is a 4 day WOW sale going on. You might want to put that 800 towards another interior room on another cruise and have it cost you very little. Just a thought. I too like the idea of an extra cruise for a small amount of money when at all possible.

There are disposable underwater cameras that I have used and worked great. Then again if you read the reviews they are all over the board. Or you can invest in an underwater camera that at the low end are not that expensive either.

I do know that on Independence of the seas they offer lessons for $ 60 an hour. Not sure if I would want to mess up my cruise being sore and beat up while trying to master a Flow Rider. But then again it is a challenge.

Perhaps putting a wedge in the doors like the door wedge that holds the door open. Or perhaps putting a chair or suitcases in front of the doors.

You appear to have all bases pretty well covered. The 2 previous posts are also spot on. We like to give the state room attendant an upfront gratuity the first day after boarding. It is amazing the service you will receive. And tipping the bar tenders extra never goes unnoticed either.

Ahhhhhhhhh The thought of Cuban cigars. I am not a smoker at hand. I know that is an oxymoron On some very special occasions over my lifetime I have had some incredible cigars. So I look forward to going there for the cigars as well as for the cuisine and the automobiles. Having one time lived in Orlando for 10 years I was able to enjoy some fabulous Cuban cuisine. It is quite a culture.

I am glad that everyone is alright. What I see a lot of on cruises are people that don" stay properly hydrated. When you feel thirsty it"s too late. As crazy as this seems people on Alaskan cruises become dehydrated as well. Warm weather cruises are much worse. On cruising days for each cocktail a glass of water is recommended. I am not a Dr. but have experienced dehydration the hard way and would not wish that upon anyone. It is not a good thing to remember about your cruise. And above all DON"T stay thirsty my friends. I know that was corny but most importantly enjoy cruising.

Been there done that. You will be just fine. The convenience of the elevator is great. And for the most part when you are going to bed so is everyone else. So there will be very little elevator usage going on.

On the other hand we have always tipped the server, the room attendant , the coffee bar and the bartenders VERY early in the cruise as well as at the end and its amazing the service you will get as well as the rapport you will establish. Can"t tell you how many times we will walk up to the bar, or table or coffee bar and the beverages or perks in the room will be ready or done. Especially knowing when the tips are all they work for in essence. Can"t say that we ever got free drinks but I will admit they were never lite or watered down.

Parking and hotel - Fort Lauderdale
fonemanbob replied to cjappert's topic in Royal Caribbean Discussion
Parking at the port main garage is the only way to go. Write down where you parked when you park so when you return you are not walking all over the garage like you will see some folks doing. And turn off your headlights. Getting to the port by say 10:30 a.m. will pretty much guarantee that you get a parking space in the main garage. Especially at Fort Lauderdale where we got there around 12;30 once and it was already full. There were 3 R C. ships and 2 other lines ships in port all leaving that day. I know it sounds early but having done this several times makes it all worth the while Like others have said you get your car and go. Enjoy your cruise. -
Very Nice. It is a hard transition especially on the moms as I witnessed when we became empty - nesters. What you are doing will help immensely. Enjoy the cruise and let her know everything will be fine.

johnny rockets - please explain it to me
fonemanbob replied to cjappert's topic in Royal Caribbean Dining
They are a wonderful change of pace. And in regards to one post who did not know that there was a Johnny rockets on the ship they were on. We always now explore the ship after getting on board. It used to be only me and the wife and kids would not bother and wonder where is dad. Now the wife and I will explore as it is amazing how much you can find out. Also attend the various seminars as they are quite informative and helpful. -
Most birth certificates no longer have raised seals but state seals imprinted in the corners of the multi colored document. Our originals from the 50"s do but our replacement ones and our children"s born in the 80"s are the new type with the state seals in the corners of the multi colored document. In any event they are accepted by the pass port office and social security. And by all means when at all possible obtain a passport. They are good for 10 years. And most of all enjoy your cruise.
