Carlos A. got a reaction from RCIfan1912 in Contact Royal Caribbean about this charging for pizza
Why? Charging for popcorn is stingy.
Princess doesn't do this.

All I can think of is that they are trying to make it look good for people who don't know any better. Create confusion when potential guests read they haven't been amped.
Both Explorer and Allure did get some updates. Oasis and Allure both added some new suites and the Royal Suites program was introduced. The Pinnacle Lounge and the Chapel were converted into Star Class suites, the Grand Panoramic and Owner's Panoramic. New merchants were added.
https://www.royalcaribbeanblog.com/2015/05/21/royal-caribbeans-allure-of-the-seas-finishes-ship-wide-refurbishment
Yet it wasn't called an AMP, just a refresh or revitalization back in 2015.
Explorer received some new cabins and cabins were updated but it wasn't an AMP.
It seems as though they are trying to apply the word AMP retroactively to any sort of refresh that once occurred.

I'm confused, Why Allure is marked as if it was Amped on 2015?

Carlos A. reacted to Traveler in More ideas for Royal how to increase their revenue.
The survey asking if we will pay money for Sorentos made me think why to stop there. Here some more creative ideas for RCL:
Weight the plates in the WJ and pay by the pound.
Want Emuster ? Pay extra otherwise you are back to the regular crowded muster.
All cabin doors to be removed , want privacy ? It's extra, diamonds will get free transparent shower curtains, D+ will get free transparent door and pineapples will get a real door but without a latch.
Quest challenge lidt can be purchased the day before , same for Love and Marriage.
Tender boat tickets will cost money, people will be able to swim to port for free.
For dinner time you can choose between 5 to 5:15 PM , want another slot ? It's extra.
Extra charge the comedy show if you don't want to be the star of the show.
Jacuzzi will be coin operated, the good news, you can use your key to charge it to you room.
The flowrider will still be free you just need to pay if you want it filed with water.
At the end of the cruise at the exit you will need to be weight , every extra pound you gain during the cruise will be charged.
Charge 4500$ for a 7 hour use of the over the water cabanas , oh wait ...

Carlos A. reacted to Xaa in charging for the pizza possible middle ground
No need for a middle ground. Current ground has it free for all of the hours it is open.

Carlos A. reacted to CrznTxn in charging for the pizza possible middle ground
The only reasonable reason to charge for pizza at Sorrentos is for those who special order a whole pizza or two to take away to their room or to the pool.

Carlos A. reacted to twangster in Has anyone found any good deals on the ICON for Suites?
Liberty would counter that for years cruising was not charging enough, that cruising was too affordable, that was was too much value in the cost of a cruise versus a land vacation.
To that end, he doesn't want cruising to be budget friendly if the definition of budget friendly is cheap. Yet someone is buying cabins and suites on these ships. To these people these rates are within their budget. By that definition they are budget friendly for these people.
It's always been a supply and demand market. There is a lot of demand right now and Royal is capitalizing on it. With strong demand rates are high but people are paying it, that is those that find it within their budget to do so.
I feel your pain though and my cruising is down as a result. While it may be within my budget I don't find the value especially with all the cutbacks and now talk of charging for pizza. It's not about charging for pizza specifically, but more that they are looking to introduce charges for more and more and more while simultaneously increasing base fares more and more and more.
For new guests who are just finding cruising this is normal to them because they don't know any better. For me the math of the value proposition has changed so I spend elsewhere.

Carnival newest ships seems to be a completely different cruise experience from the rest of Carnival fleet.
After all this changes I am thinking about taking a cruise on either Mardi Gras, Jubilee or Celebration in the near future instead of the Nickel and Dime of the Seas.

Royal is gonna drop the ball if they start nickel and diming cruisers on top of the high prices and low to no perks included with their cruises.
I mean...if I book a cruise and I cant eat after 9pm unless I pay for it....that's NOT how cruising has ever been.
First it was midnight buffets gone..then you had to pay for room service to eat, now you wont be able to get a slice of pizza without paying for it....
I talk, read, study almost daily the cruise industry....Royal cant keep going like this.

How is it, that even with that huge example right in front of their face, they refuse to see they are going down the same road? SMH... As good as their product may or may not still be, it still mainly survives by the good will of the customers. And they just do not seem to value us anymore.
It used to seem like "How can we make our experience so good, that they will want to choose us over the competition? Even if it costs a little more." Lately it comes across as more like "We've got them on the hook. Now how can we milk them for the most dollars possible?"

Carlos A. reacted to Al Miller in survey I just received
Of the big 3 lines Royal already has the absolute poorest non MDR/Buffet complementary offerings. And that is WITH Sorrentos. What would they be trying to prove by taking that away? That their cruisers are the dumbest at sea and will put up with anything? They make me feel dumber all the time when this stuff keeps happening.

Charging for pizza?
Here Royal you can have my Pinnacle club membership back, I won't be needing it.

Carlos A. reacted to monctonguy in survey I just received
Its a slippery slope...that's the issue. Do I care about a few bucks for pizza...not really. But its the principal.
More and more is becoming pay to use or eat with Royal and many other cruise lines.
When Cabana for 6 hrs cost $15k Canadian....its gong to turn alot of ppl off from cruising....or its going to become just for the rich and elite.
When you could feed a family for a year for the price of an inside cabin on Royals new ships...at some point something is going to give.
And then to start charging for so many things now.....even compared to when I started cruising just a few years ago...its defn changing the appeal and affordability of cruising.

Charging for Sorrentos would be the beginning of the end for me. It would be like charging extra for dessert. Now I eat pizza on a cruise once per week, but on principle I'd oppose the charge.

I know right? They already took the Anti-Pasti away. Scaled the WJ way back. Gutted the MDR menu. Rolled back cleaning service. Doubled or tripled nearly every fee on Coco Cay. That mostly all happened the first month after Fain stepped down. I could have understood this stuff more when the restart first happened and they were actually just barely getting by. But it seemed like Fain was trying to protect the product. Now, it seems nothing is off limits and they are testing the waters to see how much they can get away with. It's a slippery slope.

Record earnings! Best quarter ever! You hear this and you think "Whew!" Maybe now they can stop the death by a thousand cuts that is killing my desire to book anything new. Nope! Let's see how fast and how far they can gut the core experience.
This company under Mr. Liberty has me very much questioning my loyalty to cruising in general. They are going to keep pushing this and in five years they are going to wonder why all the repeat business has dried up.
