  1. I finally got to talk to Stephanie with MEI, so helpful, and finally I am booked on a Royal Caribbean Blog cruise. I am so excited. I get to meet the ALL KNOWING and ALL POWERFUL, MATT. I am going out to look for an autograph book tomorrow just so I will have his autograph. WAAAYTOOO you had better sign up for this cruise so that we can finally meet and spend all our time in the casino. Candie
  2. Moonflower, This is my personal opinion but I always book through a Travel Agent. Many reasons why, because of the one on one service, the assistance you get from them, it is taken out of your hands and put into theirs, to take care of everything. I can give you an example that just happened about a week ago. I was in line at American Airlines to see if I could catch an earlier flight and a woman right next to me had booked her flight through Expedia. She wanted to change her ticket but the ticket she bought couldn't be changed. She said Expedia didn't tell her that and the agent was so nice to this woman, she tried to explain it is much better to book directly with the airline, than use a 3rd party outlet to book through because they add their own rules on. Anyways this woman couldn't take an earlier flight. She was so angry about it she started swearing at the agent and yelling. I had one bad experience booking through a 3rd party to Las Vegas and decided to never to it again. There is so much fine print on what they sell you, if you don't read it before you purchase your ticket, you could be in trouble. Hope this helps. Candie
  3. It depends on what ship you are on, but the earliest you can book is either 5:30 or 6:00, I always book 5:30 because it takes about 1 and 1/2 hours to eat in a specialty restaurant, so if your show is at 7:30 you can make it. I was able to book all of my specialty restaurants online when I was booking my Main Dining Room options. Candie
  4. I am a member of cruisedeckplans.com and I found a few pictures of cabin 8240, 4 doors down. Here is the picture of the cabin. There is a picture of the bathroom but they are all the same, tiny, tiny and tiny. Hope this helps. Candie
  5. Here is the calendar locations website for about the next 12 months. It is located at http://www.cityofkeywest-fl.gov/department/?fDD=13-0 They now have 3 piers to dock at, Mallory, Navy and Pier B. I think the abbreviations, B mean Pier B, I am not sure what OM and M means but you could call and find out what they mean. Maybe you can find your ship listed there. Candie
  6. I am glad it helped. If you want any more information from that website I mentioned, I am a member, just let me know and I can email you more information or pictures. Candie
  7. I am a member of cruisedeckplans.com and looked up the room for you. You are in an interior, the smallest one RCCL offers, 150 sq.ft. What you save in money, you give up in space. There was no picture of your exact room but there was a picture of another right near it. There is about 12" between the wall and the bed on both sides. If you don't mind being squeezed in, you'll be ok. As for the Art Gallery, the wall that your bed sits against is also the wall for the art gallery and the main walkway from the Main Dining Room to the Theater and Studio B (ice skating). I can't find any reviews on that room. The gallery has funny hours and most of their business is conducted at the art auctions. People stop at the gallery to pay for their purchase but besides that it isn't a business hub. Above you on Deck 4 is the Centrum, which can be noisy and the Photo Shop and below you are cabins. 8. rjac, I, too, looked at the form and didn't see any openings for fat, old, no talent lady and then I noticed they need a video. Does my 1980 Polaroid Instamatic where it spits out one picture count as a video. Candie
  9. Here is the newest Royal post. Think it is the 2019-2020 schedule. Candie
  10. Hi Everyone, Here is an article that was in the Lifestyle part of the L.A. Times. Thought some of you might be interested in reading it. http://www.latimes.com/travel/la-tr-cruise-news-20170917-story.html Candie
  11. Cari, I don't know whether you have tried this but I would contact RCCL and find out if you can change your cruise. I had a cruise this month, on another line, that was going to Key West, St. Thomas and Nassau. Since two of the ports weren't able to port in, they changed the cruise to a Western Caribbean. I have done 5 Western cruises and didn't want to do it again. My TA called the cruise line and I was moved to a February cruise with an Eastern itinerary. My flight was through Southwest and they changed it to the February date without a problem. I have a November cruise with RCCL that the same thing has happened, can't go into two of the ports and changed to a Western, as of right now. My TA called RCCL and I can change to a different date to an Eastern, but with this I booked my flight with American and if I change I will lose $200. I don't want to do Western so I will changed and pay the fee. You might try calling them and see if they will change your cruise but you might lose money on the air. Candie
  12. Yes I retired from the Irving Texas Fire Department after almost 35 years. I loved my job but I felt it was time to let younger people take over. I have worked a part time job for two years but they frowned on me taking off once a month for 7 days to take a cruise, (I just don't understand that)!! I now work from home picking the hours I want to work and when I can take time off. I cruise about 6 to 8 times a year, although Harvey and Irma have managed to ruin two of this years cruises. Candie
  13. rjac, I believe it is called the "S.S. I've spent WAAAYTOOO much money in the casino this trip". Candie
  14. Tiny, DFW is five minutes away. Unfortunately I haven't found a hotel with a room for one person for $100 a night. Most of the time they are closer to $200. Tiny you can come stay with me and leave your car parked in my driveway. I will play Uber and take you to and from the airport. Candie
  15. I know most people fly in the day before but I don't unless it is absolutely necessary. I have an amazing TA that makes sure when she books my flights that I leave early enough and there are at least 1 or 2 backup flights, if something happens to the original. It is too expensive to get a hotel room for one night, worry about how to get to the hotel and to the port, pay extra for getting there when I can get the cruise line's shuttle service for a reasonable price. I know some day it will catch me and I won't make a cruise or my luggage won't make it, etc. Candie
  16. No Matt not Freeport Bahamas, please send me somewhere else. I had my September Eastern cancelled. My November Eastern is going to Key West, St. Thomas, Tortola and Nassau. Guess I won't be seeing any of those ports. In February 2018 another Eastern, same ports. I don't want to go to Freeport. UGH, you ruined my day. Candie
  17. I agree with JL about the negative noise on CC but I still read the reviews. I think when people go on a cruise they expect it to be like what they saw on LOVE BOAT. I always remember that show and think about how poor Isaac the bartender worked every bar on ship, every day. The Captain was never in the bridge, instead he was mingling with passengers, but I feel people expect that kind of treatment when on a cruise. If you have your expectations so high you will be disappointed. CC is not the only negative review site, there are several others. Trip Advisor has their share of negative reviews. I have read many reviews where passengers blamed the cruise lines for the weather, the sea conditions, people on board who were sick, etc. It is what you make it. Anyways I kind of veered off subject, if you read CC and just remember that this review might be biased, sometimes there is still good information in the review. I use Trip Advisor when I am looking for a good restaurant at home, a good hotel to stay at the day before the cruise, it is a wealth of information and it also lists excursions. For information about ports, I use whatsinport.com, cruiseportinsider.com and tomsportguides.com. The first two have a rundown of everything that is in port, weather information and what to pack, many things. Tom's Port Guides is written by a man who has traveled to all of the ports and compiled them into a wealth of information. He will tell you whether the port is walkable, how far from the ship to the center of town, his suggestions on excursions. It is an amazing wealth of information but unfortunately he hasn't traveled to every port, so there are many missing. I don't like vacationstogo.com. I have had friends who were kind of messed with on their booking. I don't like that they charge a fee for booking with them. A travel agent, at least to me, is the best way to go for a booking. A very good travel agent can make recommendations on everything to do with a cruise. My TA, since I know her so well, will tell me if she thinks the cruise just isn't right for me. With a membership to the Royal Blog you can get cruise tracking, I use it all the time. Matt is a wealth of information and so are the members. WAAAYTOOO has taken so many cruises she has so much knowledge about cruising and many others are the same. Just ask your questions and you will always get an answer. Candie
  18. I was booked on another cruise out of Galveston. The cruise was cancelled and I was moved to this weekend out of Galveston. Now the line is saying they might cancel this one. I don't want to rebook again I just want a refund. I think the cruise is cursed. For the last six years I have sailed every September, October and November without a problem, not doing good this year. Candie
  19. hallyluhopper, Sorry haven't been on the blog in about two weeks. I use the Honest Company Aloe Vera or Orange hand sanitizer. It is pretty expensive. Here is the information about it. I think it is $6.50 a small bottle. It is a spray bottle and doesn't need to be washed off after spraying. Candie About the product Effectively kills 99.9% of germs and bacteria Soothing botanicals help reduce drying, redness and chapping No rinsing required — use anywhere, anytime Quick drying gel is safe and effective for the whole family Leaves skin soft, moisturized and germ-free
  20. If it isn't paid in full it is easier to make changes and if there is a price drop it is easier to get it changed if not paid in full. Candie
  21. On my cruise in March 2017 I did laundry. RCCL gave me a paper bag. I put in one pair of jeans and two pairs of underwear and the bag ripped in half. Asked the cabin steward for another bag and he brought me a plastic bag that was much larger. I was able to get in all of my unmentionables, a pair of capris and a pair of jeans and two tee shirts, thanks to the steward. My cruise in May I just asked for a laundry bag from the cabin steward and again got a bigger and better bag that held more, so I will keep asking the steward for the bags. I agree with WAAAY TOOO!!!, the tags that they put on the garments I had laundered had to be cut off, I don't take a pair of scissors with me on a cruise (because Customs would take them from me) so I had no way of getting the tags off. I went to Guest Services and asked to borrow a pair of scissors. Candie
  22. I am highly allergic to the hand wash sanitizer that the ships use. It actually causes my hands to crack open and bleed because of the amount of alcohol and other ingredients in the sanitizer. If they have a hand wash station, I will stop and wash but if not I wash at the closest rest room to the restaurant. I also carry all natural hand wipes from Amazon (no alcohol) that help. Unfortunately I will be one of those passengers you will be pointing at and talking about because I don't use the sanitizer. Sorry, not my fault. Candie
  23. Yup, I am in the "Sweet Spot" of old age. Many of my cruises are discounted for gambling so it allows me to take about 4 extra cruises a year. I am sure that the cruise lines will figure out a way to take the casino benefit away, so the number of cruises will drop dramatically. It seems Royal is really cutting into customer service with all the changes to NextCruise and two different kinds of deposits, I am wondering what they can take away next. Candie
  24. JLMoran, In 2016 I took a cruise 8 cruises, four I paid for and four were casino free cruises. In 2017, I took a cruise in January, February, March, May and have a cruise in September, October and November and none were casino free cruises. I already have cruises in January, May, September, October and November of 2018 booked and two for 2019 booked. I am not bragging, but when you retire you can do so much more Candie
