First Royal Caribbean Ship You Went On
L454S replied to LovetoCruise87's topic in Royal Caribbean Discussion
Radiance OTS 2003, roundtrip from Vancouver(Alaska). -
I think it's more about the "these people" versus "those people" and the segregation/ nose in the air mentality. Who and to a greater degree "how" all the policing will be done? Elevators????????...Dining Rooms??????? This does not sound like a good way to drop thousands of dollars....I don't need a cruise that bad.

Alaska 2021 protocols released - masks required indoors
L454S replied to CruiseGus's topic in Royal Caribbean Discussion
I don't get the "used to it" part. Why would I pay thousands for someone to make me wear a mask. Quit doing that a long time ago and won't start again for a cruise that costs a lot of money. Hopefully you all enjoy your sailings.............. -
We've been doing exactly this for a long time down here. Won't spend money in a place that requires a mask, there were and are to many places that don't.

How many cruises do you have booked at this time?!
L454S replied to Cruising With JT's topic in Royal Caribbean Discussion
4 so far in 2022, cancelled all 6 for 2021....if they sail in 21, might try a last minute out of Galveston or a T/A if possible. -
Agree with twangster on this one. It has nothing to do with "environmental" concerns in Key West......locals who hate crowds! Even in Venice, it is the locals who hate the crowds. Had local students as tour guides a couple times there who stated this without reservation. Ships wake is a joke compared to the Vaporetto, Alilaguna, and thousand water taxis going down the grand canal and secondary canals.

I don't have these restrictions here at home in my area. Why on earth would I pay RCL or anybody to watch me and what I do like the gestapo...........
-
And that would be fine. I don't need cruising to define my life, I USE IT for enjoyment. When it is not enjoyable, move on.
-
Not a chance. I don't wear one here, why would I pay lots of money to wear one? Y'all enjoy yourselves.

Thinking about MSC Seaside.... Change my mind
L454S replied to vanelli56's topic in Royal Caribbean Discussion
As stated above....pricing. That's what got us to try MSC on the Divina. Nice aft balcony for half the price of the same aft balcony on the Navigator (both ships out of Miami for a New Years sailing). Enjoyed the ship very much. We then tried a YC cabin on the Seaside when it came to Miami. That is a different ball game. RCI came out later with the classes of suite cabins on bigger ships, but the pricing was too high for us. If you want to give it a try, get a YC interior cabin(yes, they do have them) and see if you like it, that's what we did. Then see if you want a YC balcony suite vs. an RCI Sky or similar. We have sailed in Grand suites and Junior suites, we wanted to try the YC "experience". At about $190 a day PP + tax, it was very nice, and on their newest ship. We have a YC booked for a 7 day Mediterranean sailing on the Seaside in the late fall 2021. Price is about the same, just under $200 a day PP + tax. With a different port every day, I won't miss the balcony. RCI wants $250 a day PP just for a lead in balcony on a Med sailing. We still sail with RCI mostly, but without wearing blinders.......... And, YES, YC is a ship within a ship.......... -
Only one problem we had with 9658. One day about 8AM DW says" Oh no, the toilet won't flush!"..........Press the button...nothing. Let it sit a few minutes, press, nothing. Call maintenance, they came pretty soon and told us it might be a while. Problem is the access door out in the hallway for servicing plumbing is not in the hall for this cabin. It is inside the Grand Suite next door and they couldn't wake up those suite guests. It got fixed, later. Great cabin otherwise. Pics are as we boarded behind the Movenpick hotel, Amsterdam, Holland.

I'm not sure we will be renewing our GE. 5 years ago we got it because ports and facilities that recognize GE were supposed to be the coming "thing". In all the flying and cruising we did, there were 2 times it helped. I would ask at every port we would embark or disembark about GE, almost nobody was participating, and they still don't. Maybe stay with the Known Traveler or such to keep Pre TSA if it's less of a pain.

Will You Still Cruise with Social Distancing?
L454S replied to Mrs. Thomas's topic in Royal Caribbean Discussion
I don't think this is possible on a full cruise ship(think elevators). Not enough people climb stairs. You can't have performers do that many shows a night to accommodate all passengers in the theater. You have 2 dining times now, how many more can you make if you have half the tables? It starts to sound very unvacation like. -
MY VERY UNSCIENTIFIC RESULTS ON FACE MASKS
L454S replied to Phillip Diamond Plus's topic in Royal Caribbean Discussion
Only when they are worn properly. I can't tell you how many people I see walking around stores with a mask halfway down. Can't tell you how many people wear the same mask day after day, putting it on and off all day. Abject failure for mask usage. These breathable fabric gaiters people wear(depending on mfg) can pass half of your breath when you sneeze. Flattening the curve does not mean you won't get the virus. It just kicks the can down the road a bit. It's not a political opinion or judgement, I frankly don't give a hoot who's in the White House. To say that I have an opinion on this issue based on a politics, is to think if someone else were in charge, I would feel differently...nonsense. -
This is the reason we quit taking any FCC. If I could use them more like the cash I gave them initially, we would still have a bunch of them. I would have to start a spreadsheet and make a job out of following all these things for years because every time I used a couple, they were naturally over by some margin, and guess what.....they will then issue you more FCC's for the difference. NO Thanks! Let's see....no combining, no stacking, no transferring, etc. Make it more like spending cash, you know, like when I gave it to you.............
-
Agree with PhillyLady, at first we tried booking out into the near future(July). That didn't go well, cancelled again. RCI, as well as the other lines, are selling ALL these future sailings as if they will all go off as planned a year or two ago. Even selling drink packages, wifi, etc. We are concentrating on just recovering our invested monies, and and will begin booking last minute when they begin sailing again. It does take away the fun of planning, BUT, that's a lot better than trying to get a refund 90 days later.
-
I will try and not bother for less than $50, but have called for less. Just sent an email to my TA for a $124 savings reprice on a fall 2021 sailing. She has been great through all this. Usually an email is all it takes and it's done.

Great reply as it represents my sentiments exactly. At first we took the FCC's because we thought they could be used much the same as cash for existing and future bookings. Much to our dismay, that IS NOT the case. It seems to be like the game of kick the can. Just keep kicking the can down the road. We end up with smaller FCC's that can't be combined/stacked and have no idea when you will get them. We tried to play the game for a couple months, but have grown weary as it becomes a job just keeping up with all the restrictions.....it ain't no fun anymore. 3 cancelled so far.
