Oh do tell for us newbies that have no idea, but prying ears and eyes are now intrigued to know. I have read a lot on this forum and lots of people seem to have EXPERIENCES in Jamaica that are not pleasant. Makes me want to think twice about going. Every time I see a Falmouth port call in my head I think, yea, I think I will pass on that cruise and I am not sure of that is a good idea. Same thing about Nassau. A lot of people seem to pass on that port too.

I wouldn't pass if the other ports are good.  We don't leave the compound in Falmouth, makes it kind of a sea day on dry land.

That does make me wonder ..... how long does it take to get to the Sunshine Skyway Bridge?  We'll be on Brilliance in April.

It will take about an hour.  But its a fun ride.  Last time we went out of tampa we followed a NCL boat all the way to open water.  The biggest problem is coming back, it there is fog, they will be delayed.  Once we had to wait to board for 2 hours because the boat was late coming in due to fog.

Hey guys! I'm Joan and my husband and I just booked our very first cruise for January on Brilliance of the Seas.  We live in Tennessee and haven't had a real vacation since our honeymoon in 2005!

Welcome, Brilliance is a good first boat to get back into the vacation mode. Not too big but not too small.  Does it still go out of Tampa?  I find that port a little disorganized compared to Port Canaveral and Ft. Lauderdale.  But the sail away party lasts longer since it takes about an hour to make it to open water so get a good spot up high and enjoy the ride.

Sounds like you should try an old fashioned at each bar on the ship. With the package, any that aren't to your liking can be discarded.

I've done that with long island ice teas.  Also noticed price differences between bars for the same drink.  BTW Solarium made the best long islands on most boats.

Not what I said nor implied. I am simply using peoples justification for banning straws here, and  applying the same reasoning to cruising. ......

Here's some info on Harmony of the Seas :(one of the worlds "cleanest" cruise ships)

-burns as much as 66,000 gallons of the most polluting diesel fuel a day

-emits more sulfur than 2 million cars

-more particulate emissions than thousands of city busses

Air pollution from shipping(all kinds) accounts for about 50,000 premature deaths in Europe alone........so yeah, tell me again about how banning those straws on your next cruise is really helping the environment....doesn't anyone else see the irony of this??! It shouldn't be even a discussion or debated.

    I rest my case....point made!

I do get the irony in this and I agree.  We have recycling here but lately they have stopped (or banned) glass.  The reason?  It gets into the cardboard and the recycler can't make enough money.  So from what I see, again, money is at the root. They don't separate anything anymore, just dump in into the truck and I guess dump it at the recycler.  All we have is one big bin for everything.

I remember using paper straws waaaay back in grade school when they used to give us milk everyday, they didn't work too good back then.  Not sure they will do any better now.

  6. No real best time, just have to keep looking to see if it gets cheaper.  The cheapest I've bought at was $42 a day.  I would suggest buying it now and just keep watching.  You have up to about 3 days prior to make a change (I think).  So, check a few times a day.. You never know.

  7. Yes, our last cruise we requested a table for two and got it.  With traditional seating you won't be waiting an hour to get it, you have a set time.  I would call first, thats how we got ours.  If that doesn't work then once you get on board, head straight to the dining room and talk to them. But, unless they are slammed, you shouldn't have an issue.

  8. I don't know about St. Maarten but I took my wife to one in Cozumel.  I have an advanced open water certification but my wife has nothing, she liked it but doesn't want to get certified.  I liked the excursion since I haven't been diving in over 20 years and could use the refresher. Anyway, we were led out with an instruction and he kept an eye on us and showed various sea life and from what I can tell, planted items on the bottom.  We got down to less than an atmosphere so ears weren't too much of a problem for her, it lasted about 20 to 30 minutes in the water.  Don't expect high end equipment, but I figured as long as the regulator works on demand and doesn't free flow I was good.  I will tell you this, we did the snuba once, I didn't like that.  You are tied to others and can only go where everyone goes.

Hello everyone! My name is Alex and I'm from King of Prussia, PA (Philly metro area). I have been lurking here for about a month now (and have a 3 page compilation of tips/ideas gathered in google drive to prove it)  but decided that I should probably finally create an account and introduce myself.

I will be going on Allure in May of 2019 and because I LOVE to plan and research, I have already started plotting and reserving. This is my first cruise as an adult, but I have been on 2 cruises when I was a kid - one with Royal and one with Celebrity. I was shocked to see how much cruising has changed since the late 90s and my parents have finally convinced me to go on one with them. Because there will be 3 grown adults in one room, we decided to spring for a junior suite - though you can bet your ass I will be looking out for an affordable upgrade/upsell to grand suite. Does anyone else feel like just the very act of planning and researching for a vacation seems to extend it in some way in your mind? It's honestly one of my favorite parts so this place is like heaven!

Welcome, I grew up around that area.  Brookhaven, Aston area..  Been on the Allure, big boat..  Have fun..
