  1. Not true. What they may have been referring to was while in port in Galveston your choices are limited due to Texas Law.
  2. We have sailed from 3 different ports in FL and San Juan PR besides Galveston. Each location and ship had it's own vibe. We stated on Allure so we like the big ship offerings. Liberty will provide you many of the same experiences while being on a slightly smaller ship. We found the people to be friendly and liked to have a good time. I travel a lot for business. I find the people in the South and Midwest to be more accommodating towards everyone no matter where your from then the Coasts (this is a generalization not a commentary on parts of the country). But truthfully we have never had a bad experience on a ship or land vacation with fellow vacationers and we have been almost everywhere. We have collected many friends over the years from our vacations. If you like the itinerary, I would say YOLO … Book It.
  3. Joe We sailed on Liberty in April a few years ago. We are from the upper Midwest. We enjoyed the cruise and the people. Texas is a very diverse state. We also had a lot of people from the Midwest and Southern States that were in easy driving range. I don't think Liberty sees as many people from the East Coast as flying is not as convenient and due to the expense to fly from to Houston for them. As Matt said, it is much cheaper to fly to FL from the East to catch a ship. You should be able to get less expensive flights on Southwest if your are visiting California first and then flying to Houston from there. We enjoy the Freedom Class ships and Liberty has already been upgraded with slides etc. It is just the perfect size (not too big, not too small). I'd encourage you to include people from "flyover county" in your vacation plans. You will have a good time.
  4. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Royal_Caribbean_International There is a comparison table on this wiki page. It might not be 100% but it is a good start.
  5. Typically, your hotel will hold your luggage prior to check-in or post check-out while you are out sight seeing. When we stayed in San Juan our hotel even had a room by the front desk to hold luggage. They tagged our luggage and gave us claim checks. It appears to be a common occurrence.
  6. John Which sailing in Oct? We are doing the 8 day sailing. We are staying at the Sheraton Old San Juan also. Chris & Jill
  7. I wanted to pass on a tip to try and reduce your cruise fare. We are booked on Freedom for ABC Islands in Oct. for my wife & I. Sunday is our final payment deadline. Today before I called the travel agent to make our last payment, I checked the pricing on our Stateroom. 2B Spacious View Balcony on the hump deck 10. 3 days before final payment deadline it was $468 cheaper than when I booked it 18 months ago during a BOGO 60 sale. One thing that Royal allowed was for us to change our deposit from refundable to non-refundable (don't need it for final payment) at the lower cruise fare rate. We booked today under the standard BOGO 50 offering, no onboard credit. Not only did Royal give us the lower fare they allowed us to keep the onboard credit from when we booked originally. Cruise Hack #1 always check the available fare before making your final payment and if you booked your cruise with a refundable deposit change it to non-refundable. This hack just paid for one of our airfares to San Juan.
  8. Since you are flying same day. i would look at Air2Sea that way if you have flight problems RCL is responsible for getting you to meet the ship. Uber is probably cheaper then tranfers, but have them qoute you a price and compare.
  9. We have been booking through AAA for years. Always get the bottle of Champagne. The other perks are dependent on the ship you book or the specials they are running. Priority boarding isn't really a thing other than you get to check-in with Gold C & A people which is only good the first time you sail on Royal. Actually, AAA has been slowly taking away benefits they use to provide in the past. We are considering switching to MEI.
  10. It appears to be for a 14 day Trans Atlantic cruise. Chartered? 14 Night Orlando to Barcelona Cruise from Port Canaveral. It is listed on Icruise.com
  11. Martha Poulter new Senior Vice President & Chief Information Officer first big project - FAIL. Good thing Royal Caribbean is in the cruise business and not the IT business. It is frustrating for us who work in the IT world.
  12. Look at past Harmony Cruise Compasses. The link is along the top banner.
  13. We stayed in this class of cabin this last October. It is listed as obstructed due to the life boats which hang below Deck 9. You will have a clear sea view but you may or may not be able to see down towards the dock below depending on life boat locations. You also have a larger cabin & window compared to a regular Ocean View cabin. Only the Suites have balconies.
  14. We were on the Adventure in Nov. 2015. We were told by the Stateroom Attendant that we had got a new bed that week. She stated that the Adventure was replacing them 20 at a time each week (her section was that week). So in theory, half of the staterooms should have gotten new beds prior to dry dock. For what it's worth, we have never been on a RCI ship that didn't have the hard mattresses. Our Travel Agent always arranges for a mattress topper for our bed.
  15. The systems are not connected in our experience. You can change your MTD to different times each day, although I don't think that you can do it through the cruise planner. We routinely do. We always do MTD share table. We adjust our dinner times based on what we are doing that day either after dinner the night before or when we embark at the start of the cruise. As for the show, when you go to dinner tell them you want to make the 9:30 show. They will get you out faster. Never had a problem.
  16. Major shows in the main theater - Reservations just get you in the door. Same with the Comedy Club which the shows are generally twice daily usually same 2 comedians each show all week. There will be at least 2 comedy shows in the Main Theater also. There will be a welcome show and closing show. I don't remember the ice show taking reservations. Cast members from shows like Moma Mia usually preform in both major shows (think Blue Planet) during the week as well as the opening and closing shows.
  17. My wife is a Surgical Nurse Manager at a large hospital. 2 years ago we were on the Allure. She requested and was given a tour of their medical facilities by the Medical Director. At that time they traveled with 3 doctors and 7 nurses. One surgical, one emergency and one general practitioner. They do have a OR but only to preform procedures that don't require a general anesthetic. Only locals and blocks. If I remember correctly, they had multiple treatment rooms as well as patient rooms. They also had a well stocked pharmacy. Bare in mind medical facilities on ships are there primarily to serve the crew's day-to-day needs and passengers who have medical issues that arise while on vacation (think Doc in the Box). As a passenger it is not cheap to use medical services (one good reason to purchase cruise insurance).
  18. We did what Doc suggested. We read a book in the bar area by the Next Cruise office until they asked us to leave. It was about 10:30 am. At that point there were no lines at customs and quick transfer to the airport. Early last Nov. major parts of the airport were under renovation. So, there wasn't really a place to hang out other than waiting area. Fast food was it. Luggage Butler is not available in San Juan either. It has been 8 months so maybe things have changed. Best of luck.
  19. Sailed out of Galveston 3 weeks ago. Was Gold then (we finally moved up). On our cruise 75% of the passengers were first time cruisers on RCCL (making them all less than gold). About 50% of the check-in agents were devoted to C & A members at some level. We arrived at 10:00. Lines were short for all levels of C & A. Very long for the first-timers. It did not help the RCCL had a major delay in getting their check-in computers up (45 mins). RCCL does many things well, Information Technology is not one of them. Once we got in the "Big Tent" they waited until 11:30 to start boarding. They called to Gold Members at 11:50. Truthfully, everyone was being allowed on once they called Gold. It was posted on this board last week that the New Terminal will be open by June 1. Maybe things will be better. Galveston is not as efficient as Lauderdale. Hope that helps.
  20. We have celebrated both Birthdays & Anniversaries on past cruises. Your birthday is on your profiles and our TA told them about our Anniversaries. They come to your table and sing and bring you a special desert. Kind of like you get when you go to a restaurant.
  21. We are heading out on the Liberty on the 24th. Was wondering what the current status of the expansion project is and if there are any factors we should consider? We are parking @ Galveston Park N Cruise. Thank you in advance for any information.
  22. Has anyone ever tried plugging in a small 3 watt night light into the shavers plug in the bathroom? In our previous sailings I have never really looked at the receptacle . Is it 110w? Has anyone tried? Would it work?
