    YOLO - BOOK IT. :D

Or do what I do... book a cruise (maybe after a couple beers...) and just tell your significant other what's happening. **

** this plan works better if the significant other is also consuming beverages of the alcoholic variety.

Before we went on our Anthem cruise, I read so many bad reviews. I was starting to wonder. But We loved it. It was one of the best cruises we did. The reviews were not what I experienced. Also, some of the reviews that are negative, people complain about the smallest details that have no impact on the overall experience.

The thing that gets me is I pre paid for my drink package with the expectation of drink prices up to ~$12-$13, which would be covered under my package (going on allure so up to $13 is included) Now is prices are $15 - $18  per drink, I paid for the package and then have to shell out $3 - $5 per drink +18% on top of that. That should be illegal. Its like RCl increasing the price of the cruise after you book and them telling you , in order to board you have to pay us more.

We are spending 2 nights pre cruise at the Hilton Beach Resort in FLL. Just deciding if I should rent a car for the 2 days. Will just be going to eat, maybe a little shopping, not too much traveling around. Would it be better to get a car or just Uber back and forth

I have done that before, it works. But for my upcoming trip I purchased luggage tags from amazon. They are reusable and can be used not just for cruising:

I would suggest getting a clear heavy duty packing tape. That is what I used on my last cruise.

We were just on the Allure about a month ago so, unfortunately, be prepared to go to the port side of the main pool deck bar.  I guess they realized that a bar close by is a money maker with cigar smokers!  In the ship compass they announce a "Cigars under the Stars" there mostly every night (around 8pm till late) but it isn't an organized event as I previously enjoyed on the Adventure.  It's just the only place to enjoy a cigar and meet other cigar enthusiast's.  According to the bartender they also have a limited selection of cigars.  I usually bring my own so didn't ask to see what was being offered.  We will be on the Navigator in January and the Freedom in late February so will report on the cigar experiences after getting back.
Hope you have a great cruise on the Allure as she is an amazing ship......just not very accommodating for cigar smokers, especially on the windy foul weather evenings.
We were on the Allure during the meeting of the three sisters and enjoyed that experience greatly.  The Harmony definitely received a very special welcome home!

I always get to the port early and often have to wait to board. Also, if you have any carry on bags, your room will not be ready until 1pm. On our Anthem out room was not ready til 2pm and had to lug around my carry on bag for hours. On our next cruise I think Im going to get to the port for 1pm. Get on board and go right to my cabin and drop off what I dont need.

Anyone get to the ship later? Experience?

If someone is on the fence a good strategy is to dont buy the package and see how much you drink on Day 1 & 2. If you see you might benefit from the package you can buy it for the remainder of the voyage. One of my factors is, I will drink at least 5 bottles of water per day. So it makes the package a great deal

I was chatting with a buddy of mine, who cruises often and here is how he justifies it to his wife:
Sea Day: Maybe you have a bloody Mary or Mimosa with breakfast
Then you spend most of the day by the pool. You will almost certainly have a few pina colada's, miami vice or some other frozen concoction.
Now you go back and get ready for dinner, so you go have a martini or other pre-dinner cocktail.
Then with dinner maybe a glass or two of wine
After Dinner you get to the theater to see the show and you grab a drink at the bar in the theater.
So 7 or 8 drinks on a sea day does not really seem so far fetched. Obviously not everyone drinks this much, but at average $10-$11 per drink, that package can save you money.

My Inlaws did a world cruise on the QM2. Its not the same food. The food changed depending on where they were. Asian food in China, Italian food in Italy, African food in Africa, etc. They spent 144 nights on the ship and loved it. I hope I could do a trip like that one day.

I am writing this not to brag but to suggest the opposite.  I simply prefer the space in a Suite as opposed to any other Room.  I have sailed on Oasis class ships all the way down to the "Song of Norway"  (which by the way seemed HUGE for my first cruise ever in 1986). I have booked every size Stateroom minus the new Loft Size Staterooms.  I can afford (Barely) the Suites but as the years go by I ask myself if I would have been Just as happy with a Balcony or below Stateroom  and have been able to afford four times as many Cruises.  This becomes the new era of sailing for me as I was unhappy with my last sailing. Not because of the service as my room attendant, Waiter Staff, and ship Maintenance were excellent.  The Room 8504 was in fair to excellent condition considering its age but it was third room from the bow on the eighth deck just below the Windjammer. Paying for an Owners Suite I received the following:  Non stop noise from the Carts and equipment being moved around in the Windlammer from 3:00am until past midnight every day. Robes to use on our cruise(not to keep unless I pay $69.00 each) A basket of Fruit on night one. A plate of Strawberries on night three. An Excellent Concierge that escorted on and off the ship for priority boarding of all excursions. Exclusive Suite Concierge lounge (No Diamond Plus or below allowed).  And finally a 528 sq.ft. room with separate shower and whirlpool bath.
Now,  as a Diamond Plus member paying for a Promenade room I would receive the following: Robes to use on our Cruise (one new Robe as a Free Gift for being a Diamond Plus Member). A basket of Fruit, four bottles of water and a package of mixed nuts and dried fruit on night one. A plate of Strawberries on night three. A plate of Petit Fours on night five. An Excellent Concierge that escorted on and off the ship for priority boarding of all excursions. A Diamond Lounge (Separate from the Suite Lounge but much larger). A behind the scenes tour of the Bridge, Galley, and theater. And finally a 179 sq. ft. room with a shower that you can squeeze into.

I asked myself on this last cruise 10/22/16.  Is it worth the room size?   To which I must weigh Comfort versus Number of Cruises I can afford to take.  I have come to the conclusion that with the knowledge of several cruises under my belt that my wife and I can cruise in a smaller, less comfortable room if we utilize the entire ship as our temporary home IE...  Spend more time in the Solarium, Centrum, and all parts of the ship.  This way we can literally afford four times as many cruises and have four times as many memories.  For those that say I get Double the Crown and Anchor points for a Suite, you are correct.  But, doing the math and taking four times as many Cruises would get me twice as many points and four times as many places to sail. I will from now on consider smaller rooms and many more new destinations to sail.

Happy Sailing to you no matter which way you choose or can afford to do so!

Now that Royal has eliminated the different drink packages and there is only the one. I see it includes any drink up to $12. So if a drink or glass of wine costs more than $12, do I just have to pay the difference or is it just not included in the package?
