  1. Hello, we booked this through the cruise line, but in my haste, I did not realize it was for 2pm. The ship docks much earlier so I was wondering if the Avery would make us wait until 2pm? I have read you can just walk up to the port and buy tickets, so I am not sure if they would let us in earlier or if we should just cancel our reservation and walk up to get tickets? We paid $10.99 and I have read they are $14 if not booked in advance. Thanks for any help.
  2. Very interested in this place. It looks like VIP does not include food and drink anymore, but there is a $300 credit for ala cart menu. I would love to see a menu though because I have read some people claiming extreme food prices and others that did not seem too bad. For example 1 lady received 1 burger, 1 steak, 4 sodas, 1 pineapple drink (no alcohol) and a couple of shrimp appetizers and claims it was almost $400. That seems like a little much.
  3. Thank you. We are arriving the day before and I have booked a room at the new Hilton opening up in January in Galveston. I had seen the Space center and was trying to talk my wife into staying near it or even coming 2 days before so we could go. She was worried that uber/lyft would be surge pricing or would rather go back and forth to get the airport people, making it hard for us to get a ride. I have found a few transports I am looking into (express, limo, and salt water moms), but I will check RC as well.
  4. Interesting. My app does not have it listed at all for the Aug 20th Allure sailing. Last 3 on mine are Samba, Sorrento's, and windjammer and its not above. Maybe that will change as the trip gets closer.
  5. I am diabetic as well and from what I can tell is that there are no desert options. There are sugar free options, but all are still made with higher carb ingredients, which raises BS. I might indulge in a couple deserts or just take a small taste from a family members plate, but for the most part I plan to stay away. As for other food, the ship has an abundance of Meat and Veg options. The problem won't be finding food, but staying away from all the temptations. I know I plan to have a couple different cuts of meat for dinner with vegetables and no other sides. I plan to do sauce on the side and then decide like Ashely mentioned and for my steak, I just plan on buttering it up. I may bring a few prepackaged deserts with me in case seeing all the sweets causes a sweet tooth!
  6. Lobster Tail and Lamb shank options are still showing for my Aug 20th sailing on the Allure. Hopefully they stay!
  7. Any chance you can point me to where it show the "With El Loco Fresh"? I do not see it in my app and on Allures website it oddly does not even mention wipeout Cafe as a dining option (there is a wipeout Bar). I am a 1st time cruiser so it is likely I am doing something wrong or am looking in the wrong places. My wife would be very happy if I could show here!
  8. Thank you all very much. I appreciate the insights and am especially thankful for your long post Ashley. There was some good advice in here, especially the mio and bringing sweetener if desired (some like Allulose and monk fruit are better for your system and taste much better than the usual suspects). I have only drank water and a cup or 2 of coffee a day for years, which is what keeps me from the soda packages, but I may bring some mio in case I want a sugar free vacation lemonade or something. Other than that, I think I will skip the coffee card and just have the occasional Starbucks and basic ship/diner coffee style option with hopefully heavy cream. I saw somewhere else some recommendations for zero sugar powdered mixers for cocktails as well. So I think I will pick those up as well. Thanks again everyone! Now just dreading the trip from Houston to the cruise terminal! I did not realize the difficulty of the port before we booked. I think we will pay the $230 or so for a shuttle (fam of 4) since even though it seems uber is cheaper, I have read horror stories of pricing going up as high as $180 one way. I also read its hard to get an uber to the cruise port if you are in Galveston. So it looks like we may need to stay close to the airport so we can get back for the shuttle. Anyone with any experience?
  9. Hello, I am a 1st time cruiser and will be on Allure in August. I am debating picking up the prepaid cafe select coffee card, but I am diabetic and am unsure of the sugar free options on board. I love the price on the select card, but would starbucks be better? Also where on the ship can you get specialty coffees? I typically get a mocha or cold brew iced coffee with heavy cream and typically like sugar free chocolate, white cholate, vanilla, raspberry, and sometimes Carmel. Also does anyone know if the complementary lemonade on board is sugar free? As an extra question, if anyone has any tips for someone who is diabetic on the cruise when it comes to food, desert and cocktail options , that would be great. From looking at the menu I am thinking there aren't really any low carb desert options. No added sugar, but that doesn't really mean low carb from my experience. Thank you for any help!
