Just thinking proactive.  I suppose Ebola is just a little closer to home than I'd prefer even though we're up from that there North, yer know. ;)

RC has always done a health questionnaire and will continue to do so.

Customs does its own screening even before people come to the USA.  I don't mean to profile but odds are someone with Ebola would be coming from West Africa and Customs is already engaged in screening for that.

I'd be more worried about catching the flu or a stomach bug as the odds are FAR more likely to get those than Ebola on a cruise.

Renovations are taking place now.  On Allure they have the Doghouse instead of the Donut shop but they do have donuts located across the boardwalk from the Doghouse.  After watching the kiddies stick there hands in there and handle the donuts without removing them, however, I decided to pass.

I'm disappointed that they are building Grand Suites where the "secret" balconies are.  Both times we have sailed the Allure we have had cabins a short walk from them.  It is a great place to go watch Oceanaria.  I can only assume the same changes will be made to the Allure in the near future.

They should fire the bean counter that added that extra 75 cents.  I mean, come on now... $225 vs $225.75 ?  Just silly.

The transfers Royal Caribbean offers are usually great for one or two people but money wise may be cheaper to rent a car or use private transportation.

Typically round trip transfer to and from pier is scheduled through Royal Caribbean to and from the airport which you are flying into. I have used this service twice, for a cruise leaving from Cape Liberty, NJ and for a cruise leaving from Port Canaveral. Both instances I had to go back to the airport to catch the Royal Caribbean transfer bus. It was not cheap, $37 per person each way, but it is convenient if you don't want to rent a car or hail a taxi. The price depends on which airport you are flying into and how far away the port is.

Your travel agent can book this transfer for you, or you may do it yourself by calling Royal Caribbean directly. I will tell you that most people do not use this service as it costs more generally than finding your own way to the pier. Some hotels offer transportation to the pier (some free, some you pay extra for), but most don't offer pick up after the cruise to the airport. However, there will be plenty of taxi's and buses available to take you to the airport for a price once you return from the cruise.

Look for hotels near the cruise port to find ones that offer transportation to the pier. If leaving from Port Everglades in Fort Lauderdale I would recommend:

Hyatt House Ft. Lauderdale Airport & Cruise Port http://fortlauderdaleairportsouth.house.hyatt.com/en/hotel/home.html
Hyatt Place Ft. Lauderdale Airport & Cruise Port http://fortlauderdaleairportsouth.place.hyatt.com/en/hotel/home.html
They both offer transportation to the pier for $10 a person and are across the street from each other.

    Hyatt Pier Sixty-Six http://pier66.hyatt.com/en/hotel/home.html
This hotel offers a view of the port, you'll see all the ships on boarding day. Transportation can be arranged for a fee.

While the ship is in port the casino and merchant stores will be closed. There will also be no bingo. However, there is still plenty of things to do. There will be spa specials when the ship is in port. The pools and gym will be open. If you are sailing on a ship with a Flowrider, it might be open for select hours. The rock climbing wall might also be open for select hours. Check the Cruise Compass for exact open hours.

Port days are some of the BEST days to enjoy the ship. You get some PRIME lounge chairs by the pool, and it feels like you have the entire ship to yourself.

tmh reacted to Tylor in Allure vs Oasis : Any difference?
I have been on Oasis. The Oasis Class ships offer the same children's programs, which are the best in the Royal Caribbean fleet. Like you said, only differences are shows, some restaurants, and Allure features a Guess store in the Royal Promenade. Both ships have a Coach store in Central Park.

Oasis leaves Saturday and Allure leaves on Sunday. A suggestion for picking one over the other would be price, departure preference, and show preferences.

Tylor nailed it.  Different departure days and somewhat different restaurants but otherwise the same.

We usually read the next day compass when we return to our cabin in the evening. On sea days we will nornally use the tear off activities list and carry it with us. Unless its an activity we definetly plan to do we will make up the schedule as we have time to fill. Keep in mind that on sea days you are often so extremely busy doing nothing you don't have much time to do anything. You're on vacation so don't ruin a perfectly good sea day with a minute by minute schedule without several hours of free time. You learn the scheduling techniqe early in retirement; Keep you schedule as open as possible so you can can do whatever you want when the opportunity comes up. Our typical sea day routine is sleep in, exercise, breakfast, hit the shop deals of the day, latte in Latte'tudes / Centrum lounge and then the realization that the morning is gone and it's time for lunch. After lunch it's time to look at that Compass tear out and pick a couple of activities to lull away the afternoon. Two MUST activities; the childrens show and the crew Parade of Flags. Both will typically be in the Centrum in the morning if the last day is a sea day. Scream & yell for the childrens finale, and enjoy the crew celebrating their diversity and Country pride. Oh, by the way, if you have dinner reservations for Chops don't put a lot of eating in the day schedule.

You will have no problem at Labadee, since beaches are all free and walkable.

For Falmouth you will need to take some sort of excursion, either through Royal Caribbean or find a driver to take you somewhere.

I'll assume one of the ports is Cozumel.  I'm not sure about walking distance but you can take a cab that will cost you about $10 each way and go to Paradise Beach: http://www.royalcaribbeanblog.com/2010/07/21/excursion-focus-paradise-beach-cozumel

Last time I went beach access is free but if you want a beach chair to rent it's only $2.
