Actually, you're wrong. We in Michigan (especially SE Michigan) get canadian pennies, nickels, quarters and occasionally dimes mixed in with change in US currency given back to us as we shop.

I would see about a day at Universal Studios/Islands of Adventure. Great rides and lots of people watching if you like that. Griffith Observatory is another good choice. Warner Brothers Studio Lot tour. Plenty of things to see on LA
