whitsmom reacted to Chadster in Refunds
So, before my June 4 cruise on Adventure was cancelled, they changed the itinerary due to Canadian port closures and offered us up to $450 in refundable OBC if we chose to sail, as opposed to cancelling for a refund or an FCC. I was curious, so I messaged the RCCL social-media team on Twitter last week. After checking into it, they notified me today that I'll still receive that OBC, and it'll be issued along with the FCC on or about May 22.
I shall wait to see how that unfolds.

I can’t imagine that you would lose the entire deposit.  A non-refundable deposit would cost you a $100 PP penalty under normal circumstances, however, with Cruise With Confidence, you should not be assessed any penalty.  If I understand the situation correctly, you should receive a cash refund to you credit card for all taxes, ports fees and gratuities (if they were prepaid) and a FCC for all other monies paid, including 100% of your down payment.

Not trying to be sarcastic, but the port is in NJ, stick to NJ (fly into EWR, find a nearby hotel, etc) and that could help keep your mind at ease.

I'm more worried about it disappearing in the summer and re-appearing when it gets colder again. That's how most viruses work.

Better hope there is a vaccine by then..as it sounds like in Canada our borders will be closed till there is.....so 12-18mths from now would be when it could start back up...

whitsmom reacted to JLMoran in Would you cruise with ICU pods
The ICU pods will help for any emergencies that develop on board, and honestly it's a good idea for the long term. I'm also on board with every... single... person... being mandated to purchase travel insurance; but why the heck does it have to be this company's insurance? Just make me provide proof of insurance purchased with medical coverage clearly documented, so everyone has the ability to buy comprehensive policies from the cruise line or third parties, just like they do today.
    That said...
This does absolutely nothing to resolve the biggest challenge of Covid-19 -- its ability to silently infect a host and render them contagious for two weeks before showing any symptoms. You will still have asymptomatic carriers bringing the disease to the islands and spreading it there, unknowingly and unintentionally.
I think the only thing that will truly make the masses at the destination ports comfortable, along with the greater mass of people looking to board a ship, is when we have a proper vaccine, and/or certified and reliable antibody testing that a passenger can present with their passport as proof of immunity / prior exposure.

Yes, you can cancel your package purchase and rebook at the lower price up until a day or 2 prior to sailing.
The entire purchase price will be refunded and you will completely repurchase an entire new package.  This same rule also applies to excursions purchased through the Cruise Planner.
It’s only fair to mention that Cruise Planner refunds are currently running a bit tardy with all of the COVID-related cancellations. It’s taking longer to get your money back from cancelled purchases than it normally does.

Agree with both points.  This summer we had 4 days at Disney followed by 4 night Mariner cruise.  Sadly, doesn't look like either will happen.
With Disney, you have people going on rides that many people were on right before you. You touch the handrail to hold during the ride on or just when get into your seat, and if anyone before you had it, then it's passed (if you touch your mouth, etc before washing hands, you wipe off sweat, etc ).  Not sure how they can get around that.
But a cruise, everyone is in the same place and can't escape so then everyone is quarantined.

And yet, people will flock back on Day One. And implementing social-distancing rules for crowds like that in a place that is full of lines...that's going to be a monumental task. And yet, people seem to think it's somehow better than a cruise ship. Sadly, I think it's partly because a lot of people have very limited experience with cruises and because Disney World's parks are revered temples of Americana. Going to Disney is a cultural and generational milestone for many.
If Disney and cruises halt until 2021, I can't even imagine what that will mean for the economy of Central Florida. ?

As my husband has said, have a higher chance of catching it at Disney. Bit higher chance of trip getting ruined on a cruise . If someone has it confirmed at Disney you find out after and its like oh well. But 1 sick person on a cruise could screw it up for everyone.
That being said, still hoping to cruise in dec!

Just one more reason to use a GOOD, experienced TA to book your Club Royale cruises.
Our summer offer finally showed up on the website (20RFO103).  Neither of us ever got an email.  Be sure and check the website regularly so as to not miss the offers.  It is for July-August Caribbean sailings.  I decided that we could squeeze an early August sailing on Grandeur (only 3 days of vacation and no airfare) so I asked Michelle to book it for us.
    1.  This offer is one of the offers that they are not permitting agents to book.  But instead of just telling me that and shoving it back to me to do, she went ahead and put a hold on the JS that we wanted, including the gratuities and said that all I have to do is call them and make the final payment. I received an initial booking showing a balance due. Unbelievable service, considering she will get nothing whatsoever for this work.
    2.  She then sent me a follow-up email telling me that the Bermuda sailing on Grandeur does not qualify for the offer.  BOOOOO....bummer.  But she said to just go ahead and call and see if they will let me pay for it anyway.  I did just that and the cruise is now paid in full.  I guess there is a possibility that they will bounce the reservation down the road but I think that's highly doubtful.  Normally, once a booking is paid in full it's good-to-go.
So even though Michelle will get no credit at all for this booking, not only did she do all of the legwork for us but she basically got us a deal that we would most likely NOT have gotten on our own.  Why ?  Because she has a relationship with these agents.  It makes a difference.  Having her as our agent makes a difference.
She combined both of our offers (we both had offers for OV rooms plus $150 each in "free play").  We basically paid $73 each to upgrade this complimentary offer to a JS.  What a great deal especially when you consider that it didn't even qualify for the offer !!

I would like to say please do not turn this into "lets blame RCCI for being a business and quoting op-ed pieces" like every other thread. I merely wanted to know about the bonus, thankfully @Matt posted about it on the blog. I cannot for the life of me understand why people go to pro-related blogs to complain. This is something positive that a company is doing in a very unprecedented time.

We're all having to make very difficult, very personal decisions, and honestly, I don't think there's a wrong way to approach this, as long as you're making the most informed, conscious decision for yourself and those in your life.
I certainly don't fault the people who, like you, are deciding not to cruise...and I certainly can't blame the people who *will* decide to cruise if their cruise goes ahead. I'm one of those people, and I know I will be taking the utmost precautions while aboard, and I'm going to be very thankful for the aft balcony that I'll have. Between now and then, since I'm on work-from-home status for what is likely a very long stretch through the end of the year, I'm being very conscious of where I go and how I interact with the people and environment when I get there. And 99.4% of the time, it'll be the grocery store, and only with an "attack plan" -- list, awareness of what aisles everything is in, and self-scan app on my phone ready so I can immediately bag things and then go to self-checkout and do contactless payment.
I'm making the decision to cruise if I'm able for the sake of my mental health...but if anyone or anything gives me any indication that it is a very obvious risk, I will not hesitate to cancel.
I wish you and everyone the best of luck in all of this!
