Yes, we do this every time.  I get the Deluxe and Hubby gets the Refreshment.  But you have to call them.  You cannot do this online.  Or if you have kids with you, then you can separate you and your husband and book connecting cabins like @ericfromripp suggested.  One with each kid, and then he doesn't have to purchase any package at all if he doesn't want to.

I was surprised (and concerned) to see that there is a rule that guests that have tested positive in the last 180 days will not be permitted to sail - 180 days is a decent amount of time, and certainly enough time to recover and (hopefully) fit as a fiddle.
I'm due to sail from Orlando in 291 days and I couldn't help but worry about "what if I test positive within the 180 period" but recover long before the cruise day?!
Also, I'll be flying from Cape Town, South Africa, all the way to Orlando USA, so lots of potential exposure.

acesandeights reacted to Ian T in UK approves Pfizer/BioNTech vaccine
BBC article published 15 mins ago:
"The UK has become the first country in the world to approve the Pfizer/BioNTech coronavirus vaccine for widespread use.
British regulator, the MHRA, says the jab, which offers up to 95% protection against Covid-19 illness, is safe for roll out next week.
Immunisations could start within days for people in high priority groups.
The UK has already ordered 40m doses - enough to vaccinate 20m people, with two shots each.
Around 10m doses should be available soon, with the first doses arriving in the UK in the coming days."

No Sharla, please no. ? Not unless it is genuinely an option and not imposed on everyone.
The problem with all-inclusive is that it includes drinks, which is fine for most people, who will mostly get their money's but totally not alright for the small minority of us who don't drink more than a soda or a beer per day. I did the math on the Celebrity all-inclusive, based on their estimated per-day "value" of the package and it worked out we would be paying close to 60 dollars each for that one soda or beer! ? Guess we won't be sailing Celebrity any time soon unless they come up with an opt-out option.

After our last fiasco of RCG putting our cruise planner purchases from our spring break canceled cruise towards another cruise and then trying to get that refunded back to the original form of payment (which took a v.e.r.y. l.o.n.g. time +90 days), I don't care what the sales are. I'm not buying until I know we are sailing. Our first sailing of 2021 is Alaska Quantum of the Seas in July. Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me. Not participating in this BF sale is hard for me. Bah humbug. ?

If they are doing rapid tests while boarding they can easily say a positive person is negative. My understanding is they are only reliable if you have symptoms even then not that great. The PCR test is most reliable but only says you weren't positive the day it was done, even that isn't always true as @ericfromripppoints out it could take 14 days. I believe it takes 3-5 days incubation time in your system to show up as positive. So, if I had an exposure to a positive person, I'd be told to quarantine from the contact tracers and advised to get a test on day X, if that came back negative I could stop quarantining.
I'd like to be positive and say we could be close to paying passengers, but I think your 6 month estimate is probably more realistic. Guess we will have to see how these test cruises go & how many are required for the CDC to give the clearance.

Love Amex.  They are working with me on a significant sum for a SilverSea cancellation.  SilverSea acknowledges I am due a refund but want to take many months to provide it.  They sent an email to that effect.  I shared that with Amex who agreed to use the dispute process to get that charge off my account while SilverSea drags their feet providing it.  I was honest with Amex that SilverSea did agree to refund it and Amex agreed I should not have to wait months and months to get it then force Amex is cut me a check in 2021 once it does post.  Amex doesn't want to play this game anymore than I do.

Thanks for the mention, Neesa. I've never actually had an Amex card, never saw the need (or cost) for one. I know it's not the greatest card for cruise bookings, but I have a Celebrity Select VISA that I use so I get the extra points that can be redeemed for OBC or other items.

I agree you on this and I think it has to do with where they registered there ships.  The USA gets no taxes or less from  them because they are all done overseas.

    It's a catch 22.
Cruise ships can't sail while the virus spreads so quickly.  It doesn't matter what home port they use, the SeaDream experience teaches us that no government wants to deal with any quantity of cases regardless if it's 5 or 500 cases.
Cruise ships will only sail in any measurable way once the pandemic is over.  The virus may still be around just not in pandemic levels of infections.  Once we reach that point ships will be sailing from America.
Finding some crafty way around the CDC restrictions doesn't accomplish anything because no government is going to want ships with sick people to return.  Cruising won't be back until the opportunity for spread is very low.

The 2021 restart should be enough to stem the losses for most cruise lines.  It should keep them around long enough to reach a future date when things will be closer to the old normal.  However 2021 won't be a banner year.  Look towards 2022 and 2023 for cruising to be back in concept but perhaps not at the same prices we used to enjoy.

Congratulations on Star Class.  I can't believe that they would sell a SC suite and then not service it.  I am sure that the logistics are completely out of synch for these first sailings.  I have faith for you !

With the amount of money the cruise lines are hemorrhaging on a monthly basis
Money that they have been able to secure in the past will eventually dry up
And the CDC with unrealistic guidelines that will be pushed further into 2021
Cruise companies have to come up with Plan "B" not including US ports!
And I beg to differ,  MANY American's will find a way to the ships!!!!  You are under estimating the power of cruising and Caribbean ports that can support embarkation days.
If Royal was able to generate over 100,000 applicants for test cruises, I would think a survey of those same 100,000 people, many would say they would travel via air if able to cruise sooner.

Agreed.  They can't scale small islands to what cruising from America looks like and at the end of the day a few die hards might accept the additional cost and inconvenience of boarding in the Caribbean or Bahamas but it won't be accepted by the masses.

No, way before that, late 1970s or early 1980s. It was an international track and field meeting between Scotland and Norway. It was at a place called Øvre Årdal. The views on the transfer from Oslo Airport were amazing. Unfortunately, I was off form and had a really bad run that day, but apart from that I absolutely loved it.

We are so ready too. Today we are 299 days from our next sailing. I suppose dropping under 300 is a milestone but it seems sooooo far away. ?
