  1. British Columbia released their reopen plans Please note the June reopening phase. HOTELS AND RESORTS to open again, which is a MAJOR factor in cruises determining if feasible to bring back guests. Hotels and resorts are huge for drop and go points! The ONE big barrier right now is if Canada will extend or rescind the port closures, but again POSITIVE hopes here!

Keeping a positive vibe is always a good thing but at the same time we need to consider all possibilities.

Here's another thought that occurred to me last night....if Royal can't start sailings in Alaska until August...does it even make fiscal sense for them to have any sailings in 2020 Alaska season given they need to reposition the ship(s) to support only a few weeks of sailing.  This is why I believe other lines announced their bagging the whole season up north (they cited air travel, hotels, and port availability) but none of that is known for August yet....the only facts they have now are ports wouldn't open until July (earliest), their own operating expenses to get ships in position, current booking levels, and best case estimates of number of sailings they might be able to complete which led them to cancel. ? ? ?

This is why I reserved a fully refundable 2021 slot last night so that if I do need to do a lift and shift....I've already placed a hold on the specific room I want, on the boat I want, on the itinerary I want.  I don't like the idea of delaying this trip a year so I am still keeping positive vibes it will work out...but plan for worst...hope for the best....right ?

i might have to do that as well JUST in case, did you pay another deposit for the 2021 sailing? or held for now with no deposit?

really holding hope for this year as my original June4th sailing was my 30th birthday so it was a special once in a lifetime sailing for me. would hate to do it on my 31st birthday LOL

  4. Im still holding out hope for my July 31 southbound Alaska cruise out of Anchorage, heres why...

RC is taking measures to ensure they will be the cleanest, most safe ship on the waters with the application for the patent on sea mask-and the e-muster, we see them taking steps that the other lines have not.

Alaska has been in phase one for almost 2 weeks... and im sure will move to phase 2 by June EDIT- Phase 2 begins May 8

    https://www.ktuu.com/content/news/State-announces-plan-for-phase-2-reopening-Alaska-570260251.html

and then phase 3 by at least end of June. The US Canada border restrictions ends May 15th, unless extended a month to June 15.

the ONE outlier here in my opinion is Canadas port closures. if they remain closed for the rest of 2020 (possible) then its a done no deal.

Im sick of the doom and gloom, if you keep uttering positive vibes and words, the universe responds (read the book the Secret, it has changed my life!) I think that sailing the final 2 sailings of Alaska 2020 would still be worth it to RCL.

I know my (newbie on here) opinion probably means nothing... but Im a very forward thinker.

    Sarcasm is noted.

The issue has become less about the actual virus and more about society's reaction to it.  I just made the final payment for my August 2nd sailing so I am certainly on the hopeful boat ;)....but....carnival has pretty much bagged Alaska for the season, I've seen on Facebook some tour operators have bagged the season, and the whole darn thing has devolved into political arguments instead of true scientific debate; theory creation, hypothesis testing, peer review, etc.

I just ordered a hard back copy of 1984....it has been 30 years since I read it as a kid and it seems so prophetic of today's environment that I feel like I need to reread it.

That is the best breakdown i have seen on this thread!! I know how awfully Alaska's economy will struggle because of this, and because of my age not being even remotely close to the risk ages or any co-morbidities.. I am more than willing and eagerly waiting to give Alaska some relief. I know I am pennies to them in the scheme of things, but i will be raring to go 2 months from now! If people can predict what the world will look like 2 months from now, I have some nice waterfront property in Arizona I'm willing to sell them. They also should start playing the lottery.

  6. welp after reading all the doom and gloom for Alaska cruises this year, I should just go ahead and cancel my July 31st cruise out of anchorage yeah? because there is just no way on Gods Green earth that things can get better and that everyone cant wear masks while traveling, or get their temperatures checked, or not let people over the age of 65-70 cruise for the forseeable future to protect them? I will just go ahead and cancel it.. there is a 100% chance it wont happen! noted!

You could always not apply that FCC, get a refund, which may take longer but would leave you without any additional FCC to worry about.
Perhaps also, when there are thousands of people still waiting for refunds or FCC’s this outburst wasn’t the answer.

Or, if you prefer the lower value in a full refund, we’re happy to process this for you. Given how fluid this situation is, and the opportunity to use the extra credit being offered, you have plenty of time to make up your mind. You have until December 31, 2021 to request a refund and keep your active certificate till that date.

    • Please contact us to start the refund process, if you’re willing to give up the higher value of your 125% Future Cruise Credit.
      • To avoid waiting on the phone to cancel, please click here and we will get the process started for you.

its too late to request refund instead of FCC, once its issued they dont reverse it to the refund. The point of this post is to let people know it DOES NOT apply to the full cruise. just cruise fare, and thats important for people to know, ESPECIALLY if they were planning on doing what we were going to do and use the extra 25% for the $2400 worth of excursions and onboard activities! As i check this board often for updates like these, i found it important.

    Those others may be referring to the credit issued for cruise planner purchases that were cancelled and issued an extra 25% credit as terms on these read as such;

If you purchased Cruise Planner Items…

    • You can opt-in to receive an Onboard Credit in the value of 125% of the total Cruise Planner purchases on your reservation.

Perhaps, have you looked into using that extra FCC to bump up a room category?

i did look at that but i can only go up to a suite from here and then would owe more so alas i wait. and bite the bullet of not requesting the full refund

In my opinion it is Very clear that you can accept a full refund or 125% FCC. The terms and conditions for FCC are easy to find and also in my opinion very clear.

FCC should apply to all things on that future cruise, if you book stuff through cruise planner it should also be allowed to be applied. with the amount "extra" we are getting we could take another full cruise completely paid for because alaska is one of the most expensive itineraries, however, so are the excursions. Thats to say if this will even sail end of July. just took us by surprise, and looking at other threads, several people think it includes being able to use on board or for excursions.

  10. That is straight BS. they need to address this better on their websites. nowhere does it say it cant be used as cruise planner credit. except for when you call to rebook... its simple for RC to apply the credits to the cruise planner credits and apply it to entire balance. and now they are telling us that the FCC WONT apply to the Pre Cruise tour that RC literally has as a booking type on their booking page (Pre-cruisetour b). Their true colors are showing through this mess and it will be the last time we sail with them.
