The trains from Milan to Venice are definitely the best option if you're travelling between the cities. Flights are a bit annoying because you have to go from airport to centre on both sides. The airport transfers alone take an hour (30mins on both ends) without all the waiting and check-in times, where a normal train trip is center-to-center in less than 3hrs. The high-speed train network in italy is pretty spectacular
