It was not on purpose, but on day 1, I was chatting with the manager? of Giovanni’s and mentioned that I was disappointed that chicken Alfredo has disappeared from all the menus He just laughed and said that if I wanted it when we came to just let the genie know so they would have time to prepare it for me.

    It was wonderful. LOL

Can’t say the same for my wife’s eggplant Parmesan. It was just gross. Bad enough we may not go back.

My daughter ordered steak, shrimp, and scallops at Izumi. Not that big a deal but it was nice to be able to do so.

Yikes....talk about a mixed blessing !  Glad you were able to get it though....sorry your wife's EP was bad.  UGH

  2. We have a little walk-about (actually, drive-about) scheduled for mid-November.  Dan has a reunion of Marine aviators in Pensacola so we figured we would just keep moving west and try a Brilliance cruise out of NO.  Then, we will move north to visit my sisters and spend Thanksgiving before looping around and coming back home.

Even though I am from LA, I have spent very little time, and NO recent time in NO.  It's always been a bit sketchy (in spots) but the last time I was there (realizing it's been a WHILE ago) it seemed worse than even I remembered it.

Looking for advice/warnings for pre-cruise accommodations.

Since Dan and I have never been to NO together, we will probably do the tourist stuff so while we don't feel like we MUST stay in the French Quarter, we will be trapsing about in that general area most of the 2 days we will be there, pre-cruise, I would think.  We would also like to spend some time at Harrah's but I have absolutely no idea whether Harrah's is somewhere we would want to stay or not.  It's been there a WHILE.

Anyway....any help will be appreciated.  I have done a little preliminary research and I am unable to find whether there are any "stay and cruise" hotels in that area or not.  My guess is, no....but maybe others have better information than I do.

@JeffB,are you by any chance going to the reunion in Pensacola ?

  3. I've arrived at my cabin the first time to find the doors open....but normally, the door is shut.  Since I always sneak in to get my keys early, then the doors are ALWAYS all wide open.  I suspect, but do not know for sure, that the doors are NOT supposed to be open when you arrive.

I know we are weird this way but I absolutely LOVE the once a day service and we always ask for morning service so that our room is reasonably clean all day.  So far, no problem whatsoever with this arrangement.  Is it spotless ?  Probably not....but we are pretty clean folks ourselves so it would have to be pretty bad for us to notice. So far, that has not happened.  With a VERY few exceptions, our attendant(s) has always been very friendly and efficient.  I really hate to make a generalization like this....but our male attendants are, in general, better than those that are female.  I do realize that female attendants are pretty scarce so it's hardly a fair proportional analysis but that is my general impression.  The single exception to this rule was the absolutely WONDERFUL lady we had on OA right before the pause.  I wish I could remember her name.  She was incredible.  So much so that we gave her a gift, along with the Genie.

  4. I spotted my beloved chicken picatta in the Gio pix.

So agree about Cats.  I managed to get Dan to sit through the entire production exactly ONCE.  I also feel bad for the performers.  It's not like THEY are doing a bad job...it's just a show that has come and gone and they need to make it go AWAY.  Fat chance that will happen any time soon with the penny pinching at the moment.  I guess Aqua80s makes up for Cats. 🤣

It sounds like it's better to just go get dining reservations in person and as soon as possible.

Assuming that I plan out where I want to go on which days, am I able to try to book dining reservations at the various specialty restaurants on Day 1 when we board?

I figure that we'll plan to go to 2 specialty dining restaurants or 1 specialty restaurant and Chefs Table for a 4 night Cruise.

Yes, your best bet is to go take care of that FIRST thing.

i don’t look under the bed, but that’s only because i shove so much luggage down there that it would injure/maim any unwanted stowaways 😂😂😂

I was just about the write the same thing.  No creeper has a CHANCE in my room b/c we clean EVERYTHING out from under the bed to shove all of our $hit underneath !  We always take the spare comforter and fold it at the bottom of the bed to use when we are napping (which is almost EVERY day at some point).  I can't really understand why the folded comforter seems to completely perplex the stateroom attendant.  100% of the time I have to tell them to please just leave it like it is.  Don't put it inside a sheet cover...don't move it back under the bed.  Just leave it folded at the bottom.  One of the recent attendants began mumbling something about us invading his "kit"...so I suspect that the spare comforter is something that they use when they make up the room for the next guest.  Sorry...I don't care.  Just leave my nappy blanky alone !

Just wanting to add this because I found the situation to be strange. Every night on this sailing, we have seen them allow crew members to eat at the specialty restaurants during the (what I consider) prime times from 6 to 9. It’s a full boat but our genie said they’re having real issues booking seats in them. It’s good for the crew at least.

To clarify....the Genie is having trouble booking his/her guests into the specialty restaurants during peak hours due to crew being allowed to eat there ?  I just want to be sure I understand what you're saying....

  8. Not trying to relieve the guests of their responsibilities in this area BUT, this would be a heck of a time for Royal to bring up this issue for someone like @smokeybandit who's leaving like tomorrow, right ?  If someone didn't know about this and to spring this on them at this point would be - awful.  I guess they can say "we told you so" when you get to the port and are denied boarding....

I think it is a GOOD thing to remind people about this, but they should do it LONG before the day before you are boarding !

I realize this issue does not pertain to @smokeybandit.  I was just using him as an example of poor timing...

  9. Almost no staterooms have a private bedroom.  As noted above, there are a few staterooms that have a cubby hole where some bunk beds are located and some of the high end suites (but even very few of those) have a private bedroom.  I know the Radiance class has some cabins in the very front of the ship that have a cubby hole second bedroom.  This is where a good travel agent could really help.  I would bet there aren't more than a handful of cabins in the whole fleet that have a separate bedroom and most of those are going to be very pricey.

So the two guys sit down and another guy behind them starts yelling at them. The two guys start yelling back saying they have every right to sit there because they asked (which they did). Then all sorts of swearing and name calling begin. We told D17 to get ready to duck down lol.

These 3 guys caused such a commotion and neither would back down. Everyone was now watching. They basically did not stop swearing and name calling until the show began. So extra and such an overreaction on both parts.

What was the issue ?  The guy in the back didn't want someone sitting in front of him ?  HE wanted the seats ?  What was the beef ?
