Our tour met up at 8:45am and we were back at about 2pm (and super hungry!)  We wandered around the port shops for another 1/2 hr and then went to pig out at the Windjammer.  You could pack in one more short activity depending on all aboard time - it was 4:30pm for us.

Personally, the thing I learned about excursions on this cruise was to pick a single destination excursion and be done.  The travel time within the excursion for more than one stop was too much for me and I think I would’ve relaxed more if we were focused on a single destination.

San Gervasio was not spectacular in the largest sense, but it was exactly what my Mom and I could enjoy.  She was severely seasick our first day out and Cozumel was our first stop, so the smaller excursion was plenty.  Plus, getting away from the tour group and finding a small corner to imagine the past was easily done - quiet and beautiful.  I still have Chichen Itza on the bucket list - will just have to take another vacation ?

My cruise is now in the history books - favorite drinks in order were:  1. French 75 from Schooner Bar.  2.  Coconut Mojito.  3.  Lavender Daquiri     And there were MANY others sampled - rum punch, pina colada, margarita, Bloody Mary (yuck!), mimosa, scotch collins, Mai Tai, gin and tonic, plain martini.....

I am on board now and definitely need that t-shirt!   Too many fun drinks to try!  So far my absolute favorite is a chocolate martini - yummy!!!  I’ve also tried Lava Flow, Whiskey Sour, Rum Punch, Gin Fizz, Mimosa, Bloody Mary (yuck!) and one of the Collins drinks (that was obviously not so memorable - for whatever reason ?). Found the standard Sauvignon Blanc to be serviceable for my wine with dinner.

I *think* I could board by myself, but wouldn’t want to.  I’d rather join my Mom in the mess and try to treat disaster as adventure!

I'm a big fan of pretty much any "tiki drink".  So your Painkillers, Zombies, Scorpions, Mai Tais etc.  They just scream "vacation!" to me.
One of the fun things you can try with the DDP is, try a new beverage!  You say you're not a fan of vodka, but dont let that limit you.  Maybe there's a cocktail with vodka but its a secondary ingredient or its made with a combination of juices that overpower the peppery vodka taste.  Give it a go!  I'm not a big whiskey fan, but I use the DDP to try whiskey or gin cocktails that I wouldnt normally try at a bar only to not like them.  And dont be afraid to try something you've never heard of before.  Never tried a Dark and Stormy?  What better time to try one than with your DDP!  Use it to sample cocktails, and you can ask for them in a smaller glass if you're concerned about wasting.
Another thing you can do with your cocktails that you DO know you like is amp them up with your favourite spirit.  So you say you like gin.  Ok so maybe have that tom collins made with bombay sapphire or other fave gin.  Like the lava flow with Kraken rum (its a game changer I swear there's something magical about Kraken rum)
Afraid of getting a little too buzzed?  Dont feel the alcohol pressure all the time and ask for a non alcoholic version of your favourite poolside frozen drinks.  Virgin daiquiri, pina colada, lava flow, etc.
Dont forget the water!  A good strategy to prevent hangovers and getting too intoxicated with the DDP is make a rule for yourself.  1 bottle of water per drink.  It will slow you down and will keep you hydrated while drinking.  It also tends to fill you up as well so you dont overindulge in the alcohol.  Helps prevent DDP fatigue as well.

Huge is a relative term for an old guy in a small Tennessee town. I saw lots of bigger boats along the way on that cruise and I imagined what it would be like on one and concluded that the Empress was huge enough. I don't need a water slide or a city within a city, I just want a limber little boat that I can walk from one end to the other easily.

I was on the recent extended Empress cruise (due to Dorian), it was my first cruise, and I just wanted to say that was the best consecutive eleven days I've ever experienced, and I'm an old guy that's seen a lot. I'm a huge Royal Caribbean fan now, can't imagine riding with anyone else from here on out. I don't know if it's appropriate but I'm posting a sunset photo taken the night before arriving back in Miami.

I’m a first time cruiser so have no experience with this, but I am planning to decorate our door.  This cruise is a LONG overdue Mom-Daughter Cruise for myself and my Mom.  I had collage pics printed at Walgreens, bought a bunch of fun bright signage (pina colada, tropical flower cutouts) from Dollar Tree and magnet clips to hold it all.  I’m hoping to surprise my Mom ❤️

We end up doing a Pub Crawl, Poker Run ...... All participants put in $5. At every bar, not only do you have a drink, you draw a card ...... at the last bar, you find out who has the best poker hand - that person wins the cash ..... I was fortunate enough to win two years ago w/ 3 Kings ... Nice .
