Not quite the walk in the park I thought it might be.  I'm a rough tough kind of sea farer. Wrestle sea serpents and  eat clams while still in the shell. Mid day poke yesterday. By bed time little disoriented and arm a touch sore. About midnight it rocked my world. Every joint muscle, organ, bone giving me grief... Feel like  I went sky diving without a parachute. 17 hours later It has not let up. Not trying to scare. Just be planned in a way that  gives you a couple days  to shake it off...

Rumor is that Fauci will be at the port with his slide rule keeping an accurate count.
Remember the CDC rounds down. So to be safe, Royal should achieve 100% because 99% rounds down to 90% which is below 95%.

I completely appreciate your perspective and understand your choice. If my kids were still kids I would be right there with you.
Cruise lines are dealing with the cards that are being dealt to them.  They want a royal flush but the best hand they have to play is a pair of deuces.  Staring at that pair of twos and wishing they were other cards isn't going to change the cards in their hand.
So they are going back to the dealer, in this case the CDC, and making sure they understand all the rules in the game to see if there is anyway to make it work.
The outcome is not inevitable.  We need to wait until the CDC clarifies the rules of the game.

I'm guessing that the 98 and 95 percent will allow for some with legit medical exemptions.  The problem would be children under 16.  They are currently ineligible and would certainly not work with those percentages.

The whole thing still reeks of the CDC setting the cruise industry up to fail. I mean, "hey if you require vaccines, which we know we can't do, we'll let you avoid test cruises, but you still need to have shore agreements in place that can handle the entire ship getting covid" is still off kilter.

The 98% crew vaccination is the easy part.
The 95% guest vaccination part needs more clarification.
The premise is that they can skip test cruises if 95% of guests are vaccinated.  On which sailing?  Just one sailing?  All sailings?  Until when?
It's not like guests board a ship and live there forever like its a nursing home.  Three days later those guests get off and another 3,000 get on.
What happens if the first sailing for a ship has a 96% guest vaccination rate but the 2nd sailing has only a 93% vaccination rate?  Does that mean they have to stop and do test cruises before cruise #2 can depart?  Or do they need to cancel cruise #2 since it fell short of 95%?
If they do sample cruises can they then sail with 0% of guests vaccinated?
If they have to cancel any cruise that falls short of 95% guest vaccination that leads to a high degree of uncertainty.   When do they cancel?  The day of the cruise?  A week before the cruise?  Two months before the cruise? When will guests know if the magic number has been reached?
If they cancel a Florida cruise because not enough guests were vaccinated does that put them at odds with the Florida Governor DeSantis EO that says they can't require guests to be vaccinated?  Are they violating the Governor's EO simply by asking if a guest is vaccinated?
    So many questions.

This crap has gotten way out of hand, and I'm sick of it.  These politicians like Murray, are absolutely ignorant to this subject.  It's obvious when they
continue to refer to the Diamond Princess and data that is a year old.   Sensationalist media again raises it's ugly head.

Yep, they're not giving up on the Diamond Princess.

    Also, "just last year"

    -No vaccine
    -No treatments
    -No mass testing
-No knowledge of how it spread

    Also, "just last year"
-Not thought to spread among humans
    -Don't wear a mask
-15 days to stop the spread!

Ok, Senator Murray just got an earful from me. https://www.murray.senate.gov/public/index.cfm/mobile/contactme?p=ContactMe who's next?  I simply pointed out that her assessment is well behind the times and doesn't take into account the steps the lines have taken to ensure safety.  I'm on the warpath and you should be too. Enough of this %^&*.... I do use firm language but always respectful when dealing with the elected. Its important for all of us , that they work for us. Not the other way around. When they do a bad job they need to be leaned on...

I’m heading to The Bahamas in June and can’t wait!  We are fully vaccinated and are willing to abide by all COVID protocols in Nassau and on the ship.  In my opinion we will likely be safer than in some areas of the US. I agree completely that the CDC has real heartburn where cruising is concerned and amid all other forms of travel resuming business as well as amusement parks, sports venues etc. it’s clear they have singled out the cruise industry. So sad as it’s affecting so many folks from port cities and yet they keep digging in much like a ‘stubborn child”. They do have a job to do, and of course some of issues are political but really - giving them a pass as if they are trying to protect us - that dog don’t hunt in Texas?

Yes! I also believe a certain segment of our population is approaching going off the deep end. A fully vaccinated acquaintance recently posted that she and her husband finally ate at a restaurant “don’t worry! We ate outside!”

These are the same people that have now been conditioned to avoid Level 4 countries and if you do visit a restaurant and eat inside or travel to a Level 4 country you’re labeled reckless and putting others in danger. It’s past ridiculous in my opinion. Life is full of choices but I fear our freedom of choice is being smothered to put it mildly.

Here's another one ....... Greece is a CDC designated Level 4 - don't travel there country. Greece just opened to international travelers including Americans today. If you can show proof of vaccination or a negative COVID test you can travel to Greece and don't have to quarantine. Are Greek public health officials idiots? Nope, the Greek government has correctly ascertained that the cost of restricting tourism in Greece, fearing SARS2 transmission from travel associated mobility, is higher than the cost of dealing with the low risk that vaccinated or even unvaccinated tourists with proof of being COVID free will spread SARS2.
This is rational and pragmatic. The Greek government could stand as a shining example to the US government and the irrationality of the US CDC driving the Biden Administrations irrational public health policy that is locking down the cruise industry.

Actually cruises will start 8-12 months after herd immunity is achieved.  The CDC runs on an 8 - 12 month delay so they will keep cruising shutdown well after the emergency is over.

This is nothing more than "Look at us constituents! We're keeping you safe!"
They (or their respective staffs) clearly have not done any research to see just how much the cruise industry has done to prepare for the resumption of operations. The language in the letter to the CDC gives the impression that they believe that the personnel running the industry and it's ships have been simply sitting with their feet up waiting to get back to business as usual. Nothing could be further from the truth.
