  1. People talk about taking USA vacations, but where would one go, there are still so many restrictions, and some of the cities I always dreamed of visiting or returning to see are now going through high crime, like NYC, Chicago, etc,. I live in Florida, outside of Tampa, two weeks ago drove over to the east coast, stayed at a hotel, it was totally different than before the virus. No breakfast, had to find a restaurant, but on the week end the seating is limited, so it was a wait. Going out to dinner is not the same either, limited menus, (although the staff were very welcoming and so happy to serve us), we came home feeling like we may just stay home, it didn't even feel like a vacation. So sad, I wonder when and if we will be able to enjoy our leisure lives, and the people in the hospitality industry do want to see everyone come back and have fun. So many people have loss jobs and businesses. It is strange, this virus is bad, but yet many people have to be tested to know if they have it. I am in my seventies, I want to get back on a cruise ship and wonder if it will ever happen. Will the CDC ever let us go on with our lives without living in fear. There will always be viruses and germs, but I can't live in a bubble or fear for the rest of my remaining life. I wear a mask, and read we will have to wear a mask for many more years, that is scary. My friend is 89, she has seen a lot of life and illnesses (polio, swine flu, etc.) and has never seen such fear. She wears a mask, but goes out with friends, three weeks ago her son died suddenly at age 60, not CoVid, although my friend feels he died from the stress of losing his business (he owned a catering business) and not being able to get out and be with his friends, or his church community. He had a massive heart attack. No one knows when it is our time, but sitting around waiting for there to be no more viruses or germs, and living in constant fear, is not how my friend wants to live her senior years. My friend is active and healthy, no medication, just uses a walker so she won't fall, she wants to celebrate her 90th birthday, in June, on a cruise ship. I certainly hope it will happen.
  2. Two days ago it was reported that two Covid testing labs in the Orlando area were recording very high positives, This is a quote from an Orlando news source/station: For at least the past 11 days, the Florida Department of Health coronavirus report shows hundreds of laboratories are reporting 98 to 100% of COVID-19 tests are coming back positive and according to the DOH those statistics are because some private labs aren’t reporting their negative results at all. Some of the private laboratories are not reporting any negative tests but hundreds of positive COVID-19 tests. When asked about the 98 to 100% positivity rates on the report, a spokesperson for the Florida Department of Health said the reason was due to some “smaller, private labs” not reporting negative test results to the state. A spokesperson with Advent Health said they were told by FDOH to only report positive cases. The hospital said it would make any changes to their reporting if requested by the state. Guess those high numbers for Florida are not accurate.

Sadly even taking a driving vacation through the states will be a challenge with some states putting restrictions in place for people coming from "high risk" areas of the country, even staying in my own state has challenges. I hope there is a cure/treatment, so many people (friends and family) are trying to follow the guidelines, but we never hear that the end is in sight, and nothing but bad news from the media. Then we see the above news, when we are trying so hard to follow the recommendations, and see there is false reporting. How can we believe what we hear. We need hope! People are struggling financially, losing their businesses, cannot see family members, cannot say good bye to loved ones (a nephew passed away a week ago suddenly, cannot have a funeral), the elderly can not be with family or friends or go to activities that help them socialize, so needed when you are older, many going through depression and isolation from friends and family. And sadly this virus is also turning friends and family against each other, so sad when we are in this together. We need some uplifting news, not constant bad news. I want to dream about going on a cruise, I miss the excitement of planning and looking forward to my sail day, counting down the days. I need something to look forward to, not to constantly hear that it is not going to happen.
  4. I like the Windjammer, as another poster said, I can leave the pool, cover up and not have to go back to my cabin, wash up and change for dinner. Some days I like being by the pool and do not want to change for dinner. I would not mind if the Windjammer became cafeteria style, just do not close it.
  5. You express exactly how I feel. Thank you! We hear about the death rates, but not about the people who have survived. It is sad that people are dying, but like you said, this "fear/cure" is hurting so many people, those who have lost their jobs, plus the social isolation. Life is about living until you die, and we are all going to die, we cannot stop it. Sure we have to take precautions, when does it become the extreme and hurt more people than it helps? The media and our elected officials feed into the fear, they are looking at doom and gloom and not hope. I find so many people in my community are very angry towards each other, that is sad. Even I have been yelled at for walking, which I do each morning, people shouting "stay inside". How am I hurting them? I want to believe I will cruise one day soon, and that life will return to normal sooner rather than later. There are days I feel alone in my feelings, so it was nice to see your post.
  6. I do not believe this virus is only a cruising issue, many things in our lives will change, but we have to continue living. My late husband and I were enjoying our retirement, at age 74 he began feeling very tied and lost some weight in a matter of a few weeks. After his doctor admitted him to the hospital and many tests, we found out he had acute myeloid leukemia and had maybe three months to live. Our lives may change because of the virus, just like more security after 9-11, but we have to continue living. We could die in a car crash or a plane, or die of a heart attack or cancer. We change our life styles, or have more safety features, but we continue to go on living. The virus is not the fault of people who cruise, stopping all cruise ships or travel in the future will not make viruses go away, germs and viruses are there. I agree that when we have a pandemic, or even a crisis like 9-11, we have to take a step backwards, wait until it passes (after acts of nature, pandemics, wars, etc.) and move on, not stop living. Life is to short, as we see, doom and gloom is not hope, we need hope to get us through this awful time. This is JMO, I am sure many people will not agree. I accept your opinions, I just want to believe that though life may be somewhat different, we will still have dreams of life after the virus. We cannot put our lives on hold forever.
  7. I was happy to see your post, we need to be positive during this time. So many people are turning against each other, sad because we need one another to get through this. I want to believe that things will be better by May. So many people are out of work right now and do not have an income coming in. The hospitality industry is made up of very hard working people in restaurants, resorts, retail, and if this were to continue these are the people that will suffer the most. I think for the most part people are trying to follow the guidelines, yes there are some that do not, but in life there will always be folks that think rules are not for them. I am staying home when I can, except for groceries if and when needed. All my friends are doing the same. I am over seventy, a friend is 88. She has been through wars and diseases but has never seen anything like this. Please let’s stop blaming everyone and work together to bring this to an end, for those who are sick and those who are struggling without a means of support. No one knows when this will end, but trying to look on the bright side will get us through this, let’s take it two weeks at a time, not months down the road.
  8. My doctor will not sign the letter, says she is too busy. My fear is I will not be able to cruise again. I am 73, healthy, no medications, walk 3 to 4 miles a day, five days a week. What will healthy over 70 year olds do if they cannot get this letter signed. Wouldn't taking the temperature be enough?
  9. I wonder if there were eyewitnesses, we haven't heard anything, but I am sure statements were taken by the authorities.
  10. Sadly there is a part of me that feels the grandfather planned this. It appears to me on the video that he took his time walking to the window, leaning over and looking out the window, then picking up his granddaughter and putting her life in danger, knowing the window was open and it was a long drop to the ground. So sorry for these feelings, but my heart is with this little girl and the last seconds of her short life. The more the family pushes “it was the cruise lines fault” the more I begin to wonder if it really was. Now the lawyer wants the videos dismissed!
  11. This is exactly how I feel. I feel for the child that her life was taken from her. In honor of Chloe the grandfather should have admitted guilt and spoke to other people about how he made a terrible judgement in lifting Chloe up and putting her at risk. I could of felt more sympathy for him and Chloe’s family, but the rush to sue and make excuses for what happened changed my feelings toward the grandfather and family. After that it was about Chloe and no one was taking responsibility for what happened to her and her fear during the last seconds of her life.

  13. First, people say they feel bad for the family, I no longer feel any sympathy for them, but I do for Chloe, what the final seconds of her life must of been like. Watching the video, it appears that the grandfather held Chloe out of the window. He is responsible for her death, no matter how the family or lawyers want to spin it. If they want to help other children, admit guilt and tell parents/grandparents about what happened and to not ever put a child in that situation, I would definitely feel differently towards the family if they would have reacted in that manner. Even if they were deeply in shock when this happened and were not thinking when they agreed to be represented by the attorney, they have now had a chance to realize the grandfather’s actions caused their daughter’s death, and speak on how to make sure it never happens again. Instead of anger, they would have my sympathy if everyone would have admitted it was a horrible accident and we want to learn from this. As it is now, Chloe will be remembered as the little girl who had parents that wanted to get rich off of her dying, instead of teaching us the risks involved when we don’t think before we act.
  14. I am sailing on the adventure of the seas in May 2020, repositioning to Cape Liberty. Would like to stay in the area for two nights, and visit NYC. Suggestions for a hotel and best way to get into the city from NJ. Will be flying back to Florida from Newark. Thank you!
  15. I want to add that I have friends who have never cruised, and they hear the parents on the news. They seem to believe that the windows were child level, like the picture of the little girl banging on the hockey window, not up high and the open window was by the children's pool area. I try to explain to them that the windows are not level with the deck, they are almost waist or chest high. When I have shown them pictures they are shocked because of what they hear on the news, and they immediately see that the windows are open. The lawyer and parents seem to be trying to convince those who have never cruised that the ship was at fault, and if listening to my friends is any indication, it is working. I am sad the little girl died in this awful way, but angry that the parents and grandfather will not take responsibility for their actions, if they did, maybe they could teach parents to be more aware of how suddenly accidents can happen. A friend's son-in-law drove over his daughter who was behind his car, she survived but was in the hospital recovering for weeks, he took full responsibility for his actions and told his friends over and over to always make sure your child is no where near the car, to not just take it for granted.
  16. And what if a child put their hand in the fan! The cruise line will always be blamed. Sad for what happened, but angry that the family will not take responsibility. I am sure it was an accident, the grandfather didn’t want to hurt his granddaughter, but speak truthfully if you want to make sure it never happens to another child. No other parent will put a child on a railing, because in a split second that child can get away from you.
