  1. Hi everyone….this is my 4th cruise coming up , but, the first where I selected a guaranteed room without picking the room myself.  We are theee adult women , going on symphony and staying in one room together.  Someone said in a Facebook group for our cruise that to know your room number a tip is to look at your boarding pass once it is put in your Apple wallet and the last numbers of the bar code are your room number.  Can anyone verify that this is always the case?  I ask because our boarding pass says dk 12. And then the end of the bar code says 12150 .  We thought this sounded great but after looking more closely , this appears to be a 2 person only room.  Didn’t know if I need to call and see if they made a mistake or if since it is early maybe this was just temp and not necessarily goi g to be our room number since Royal hasn’t said that, it just appears that way….

When we sailed on Voyager out of Boston last fall, taxis were all over the place on both embarkation and disembarkation days.

I'm assuming ships dock stop at the same place they embark/disembark from when they are ported in Boston (Black Falcon Cruise Terminal)?  If so, it's about a mile and a half walk to South Station where you can access the subway, but it can be miserable if it's cold/rainy/windy.  When we finished our cruise last fall, we dragged our luggage to South Station because we were too cheap to pay a taxi and the Silver Line bus never showed up.  It was a beautiful day, so the walk was pleasant other than having our bags with us.

The cruise terminal is stop #16.  There are directions to get to it from the terminal in the link below.  Click on stop #16, then on "More Info" in the pop up window.

thank you so much for this link... I don't know why it didn't occur to me to go look at their website... is a great help!!

  3. Hi everyone!  Could someone help me please?  We are doing the Liberty cruise to New England and Canada for 9 nights, in September, and wanted to do the hop on hop off bus in Boston, to see the city, however, it is already listed as sold out on our cruise planner!  I have done hop on hop off in other cities before and like it, and have usually purchased it on our own anyways.  I can purchase it for Boston on Trip advisor, but my question is,  is there a bus stop for it near the port where the ship docks, or do we have to figure out a way to get to one of the bus stops as well?   Thanks for any help/ imput on this, I really appreciate it!!

  4. Hi my cruising expert friends!   I have a question about a cruise i just booked through the website last night for my aunt and myself.   She is a Diamond member and I am only Gold, but since she is older and not very much into computers, making calls and all of that, I am taking care of all of that for us.  She normally cruises with my cousin, who is also Diamond and who usually does all of the footwork.   Anyway, today I watched one of Matt's videos where he said that each level up after Gold, a C& A member gets a better and better discount on a balcony room.   When I originally did the booking online, i did not enter either of our C&A numbers because it would not let me.  I had figured that I would just call and add them.  Now I am thinking, she should get a decent discount on the balcony room i reserved.  As it is currently, I am the primary on the reservation.  I guess my question is, will they let us change it around so that she is the primary and we can get a better discount, or will they make us cancel it and redo it under her name?  I tried to call them but the recording said they were now closed.

  5. I know that in the high level suites, they will stock your fridge with soft drinks, but can you arrange to have soft drinks for your in room fridge in a regular cabin?  I have bought water to have placed in the room and I really dont like the idea of lugging around a 12 pack of Cokes on day 1.   I know that you can order individual cans from room service for like 3 dollars each but just wondered if there is a way to buy then ahead of time as i did the water...  thanks for any ideas/ advice...

Just to add on further - my husband and I really enjoyed the walk from the port to the downtown beach area when we were last there. It's only about a 10 minute walk with a neat little Gouda shop along the way.

So, if we want to just skip booking an excursion, we could easily just get off the ship and take a short walk to go to a beach, the restaurants and shops, then walk back to ship at our leisure?

In some cases the sofa bed is not a standard pull out sofa bed you'll find on land but the concept is similar.  In some cases the sofa bed folds down to make a bed for one person, in some cases it is very much like a conventional sofa bed for two.

There is no magical cruise ship sofa bed that somehow out performs regular land based sofa bed but can't be found on land.

The matter of comfort is subjective but also more variable for the sofa beds compared to the mattresses.

In most cases a guest will be inclined to accept it given the other option of a whole different cabin and the costs associated with another cabin.

I can't imagine anyone has slept on a cruise ship sofa bed and left the cruise thinking "...that was sure better than a mattress! "  or "I lucked out getting the sofa bed!".

Some people, particularly teens and children are less likely to notice or complain about sleeping arrangements.  Someone who is paying a full share for the cabin might feel differently.

Thank you!  Your points make some good sense....and you make me laugh 😄   I appreciate the advice, as always!!  - Julie

  8.  I have a cruise coming up on Symphony in a couple of weeks and am still considering a royal up bid.  My question is though, can anyone tell me if there are Grand Suite's that are not Ocean View?  I do not want to risk losing an ocean front balcony.  I have heard that if you take a royal up, you do not have any control over where the room is located and so I am just not sure about it....  Thanks for any advice, answers...

  9. Is it normal for the cruise planner to not have things up yet on a trip that is over a year away? I have booked a few in the past that were far off and never had this happen before.  Wondering when my cruise planner options for dining and beverage packages …excursions etc will show up.  I didn't know if they just wont show up this early or if something else was going on/ wrong with  it causing a delay... ( cruise is at 481 days on Mariner- Jan 2023)

    Thanks!
