Sorry to hear you had a couple disappointing parts of your trip, hopefully you feel like you had a good vacation overall.

Just wanted to let you know it probably wasn't a lie on the skipped port.  I believe when RC goes to Grand Cayman they tender to the port, so if the seas are too rough for the tenders they cannot stop at that port.  Other ships/cruise lines may be able to dock and not have to use tenders, which would be the reason they could dock.  Again, not 100% sure that was the case on your trip, but a possibility.

I know what a tender is. Other cruise lines did tender.

  2. Just back from a long, wonderful vacation, minus the cruise. As first timers we won't go back. Cruise hit rough waters and even crew members were having difficulty not being sick. The "patch" on my neck caused my eyes to go blurry. Then the one day we looked forward to all year, Christmas on 7-Mile beach was cancelled! They said it was due to rough waters & gave credits on excursions. Fine with that explanation ONLY to find out afterwards it was all a lie, because, friends were suppose to meet up with other ships that DID dock at the Caymans that day. In fact many cruise lines were there! The one major reason we decided to go in the first place, and it was all a lie. We purchased the Key and staff had no clue what the Key was entering the ship? One girl had a big sign on her that said " ask me anything?" She told me I needed to get with a group and your key will open the door!??? Drinks were made wrong and the cruise was full of disco and very little Christmas. Sure they played the same Christmas songs over and over from the same CD, but not much Christmas spirit, more 80's disco. We went to Disney before the cruise and honestly should have stayed there instead. Food was so-so, some items were good, others lousy, and no Lobster for Christmas eve. The special Christmas eve was a turkey dinner. Really? I could have purchased that at the Diner in Ft Lauderdale. Ordered a NY steak at Christmas Day and it came out well done, not once, but twice on 2 different nights. We were pushed to have black and white photo's taken of the family and then asked to pay near $3000 to take them home. Place was so jammed we only got in the jacuzzi once and never the pool. It was just too crowded and VERY windy. Finally, it took us a  week to stop swaying from the ship on land. I joined this blog and only read great reviews but never saw a bad one. We were SO excited! Well, here's the first negative review. We are happy we went and experienced it, but never again. We will stick to land vacations.

  3. Thank you all! Answered the questions and then some. We have already purchased other items on sale to answer some responses. Just didn't understand the photo layout. We  will more than likely get a package, maybe wait for the cruise? We will be on Indy for Christmas week. So pics will be plentiful, formal & informal I'm sure. @Mr. Candyman thank you for the listed explanations.

  4. Hello all,

Been learning allot from you all for our first cruise this December.

One item I have not seen much discussion about is the Photo's. I have seen the link on the blog but still have questions because some things I have read contradict what the website says.

    1. First, on my planner, it shows a discounted "All Digital -Photo Package" for $187.49 on a five day cruise. My question is, what is the actual price? Is it worth it?

    2. Is this price 187.49 "per person", or does just one person in the party pay for it?

I have read its only the head of the party while the website says per person? Very confused.

    3. What comes with this package offered? We are newbies and have no clue! Should we take advantage or wait til we get on the boat for a better deal? IDK???

    4. Finally, are the phot packages even worth it?

Thanks, looking forward to some input.

  5. Problem is, like everything else in life, if people keep buying it - its only going to go higher. Economics 101. A few out way the many. My baseball team will not make the playoffs, but they still sell out every game. Prices go up every year, and because they sell out, they will go up again next year. If people keep buying the product, why not increase the cost? The rich just keep getting richer.

    Frozen options:

Frozen mojitos are good if you can handle lime..

      Strawberry/mango/banana daquiris...

BBC/mudslides on the milk-based side of the spectrum.

Royal has a Tokyo Tea which is a long island iced tea they they replace the Coke with Midori, so it gives it a fun, green hue.

    Rum swizzle uses grapefruit juice.

Dark and stormy is rum and ginger beer.

Thanks! Yes I am going to try that Dark n Stormy everyone talks about. No grapefruit juice either. :-(

  7. Thanks for the thread! Writing down all these suggestions. Wife and I don't drink much but let's face it, it's vacation.

My issue is I can't drink Pineapple Juice and very little Orange Juice. The acidity is my biggest foe.

What other Island drinks are out there that don't contain these juices????? I'm fine with coconut!

Looking forward to some answers...………. thks!

  8. We originally booked the Eastern for December but after reading "allot" of reviews, I found most considered the water temp cool to cold and air temps 70-80. We switched to Western where water is much warmer and air temps 80 or better. You might also have to deal with aftermath of the current Hurricane. All Islands you hoped to visit maybe closed. Sorry about your grandmother. Hope this helps.

I can't imagine they would have built the island without the foresight of there being hurricanes though. We've had at least 1-2 every year for the past few years. I'm sure they have some kind of protocol...or maybe it's my wishful thinking since we're supposed to be there on the 7th!

A Cat 1 or 2 yes. Cat 4 or 5 no. When a storm hits an Island at 125mph for 24hrs or more its devastating. I pray for Grand Bahama & the adjoining Islands. Best we can hope for is a jog north. But its not looking that way. Then Florida. Stay informed.

  10. 1st time cruiser taking adult family on Indy for Christmas. First time away from extended family and we can't wait! So tired of the same thing every year. We will be on 7 Mile beach Christmas Day and can't wait to snap some pics in the sand and sun to post back home. @Stephanie we reside in MA and found a MUCH cheaper rate renting a van and driving rather than flying. We have plans to hit some fun spots in other States on the way back and take our time getting back to reality. So its an option from flying. Looking forward to the warm temps and glamour of the Christmas Holiday in the tropics!

You may also want to look at a waterproof phone case to use on wet excursions.

We have these and they work great! They're cheap and come with a lanyard. Worked great for taking pictures during parasailing  in St. Maarten.

@SPS thanks I really like this one.

@AshleyDillo thks! These are what I really wanted.

  13. LINKS - where to buy these? Amazon...etc ???

Can I get some "links" for luggage holders  when we get our tags?

Also any links for land yards, as a newbie I'm assuming we'll need them. Also should they be waterproof?

Lastly, and links for small waterproof bags when on excursions, assuming we'll need that too.

You all are the experts, I'm listening.....thks!

157 Days to go! Yes that's Christmas my friends!

Where did you see the status of your bids?

When I click on the link, it says "please ensure your sailing is within the next 30 days" (which it is not) --- how did you get in from March for a May sailing???

Could you please tell me where you found the unlimited digital package for $160?   We are interested in it for our 45th anniversary cruise in Sept on the Oasis.  I just looked on the cruise planner and was $241.99.

They probably have an email discount or shorter cruise. Mine is listed at $199. Waiting for a price discount to be posted.

    ABOUT YOUR UPCOMING TRAVELS

    Dear Guest,

    Well, this round’s on us.

On Monday, July 1st, 2019, from 4:00 PM to 1:30 AM EST, we posted incorrect pricing of $18 USD per person, per day, for Deluxe Beverage Packages. Given that we typically price these packages at about $55 USD per person, per day, it was the (messed up) deal of the century.

This was a BIG mistake! It might have been bad code, a random computer glitch — or maybe we just need to reinstate our intern typing test.

Any which way, it was our error, and we’ll own it. Enjoy your deep, deep discount — while we go drown our sorrows.

    Happy 4th of July!

    Sincerely,

    Image did not load.

DAM, I missed this one. Good for RC, shocked though!

    1.  Regretfully formal nights are getting more and more informal.  It is supposed to be a night the whole family dresses up and a lot of families have formal pictures taken that evening.  There are has been some discussion that cruisers are seeing even shorts on formal night.

    2.  You take your luggage to a porter before you enter the terminal.  It is really an easy process.  It is recommended that you keep a bag with your jewelry, meds and electronics and maybe your bathing suit and change of clothes to carry on to the ship.  Don't forget to NOT pack your passport/birth certificates on your luggage you leave with the porter.  It will be delivered to your stateroom.  Most evenings by 5pm.  We usually only carry off one bag and get the rest from the pick up point off the ship.  I just read a post that someone had their luggage stolen and was only paid $300 from Royal for their loss so it's up to you whether you carry it off.

    3.  Tips are included in your beverage package but I know that some cruisers tip above that to those who really provide excellent service.

    4.  They charge your account daily for the tips, if you didn't pre-pay them.  I like to pre-pay ours so our credit card bill isn't quite as high after the cruise has ended.  In fact, I try to pay as much as possible before we get on the ship.  All our shore excursions are paid for, drink packages, tips on the ship and I also pay for our parking before we even get there. We are scheduled for December and our parking has been paid for a couple of months.

    5.  There is always something going on somewhere on the ship so she really doesn't have to spend anytime in the room except changing clothes and sleeping.  I love to play trivia and play a lot of it on the ship.  I love to read so I usually take a book and find a quiet place on the deck someplace and read for a while each day ( and usually fall asleep ?)

    6.  Dressing for specials nights is optional.  It does make it more fun for you but the decision is yours.

    7.  There are multiple pools on most ships. The ones with the solarium have a pool and hot tubs for cruisers over 16.  There will be other pools, not kiddie pools, that your children can use.

    8.  There are hangers in your room and if you need more ask the steward for more.  There is a retractable clothesline for across the shower.  I usually pack a few clothes pins to hang our wet clothes.  The magnets come in handy to hand your lanyard with your card, your hat, your sweater, etc.  Also, a lot of people take post it notes to leave notes for the kids to let them know where you are or they can leave a note for you.

    9.  I believe that 3 days is too close to sailing date to make any purchases thru the cruise planner.  You could try calling RCI and see if you can sign up for Royal Up on the phone.

Hope you find this helpful.  Enjoy your cruise.  You are there to have fun and relax.

Vlgg, how did you pre-pay for parking? We are going out of Ft Lauderdale in December and can't find much on parking? I assume there is a lot and how do you pay? Thks!

This topic comes up a lot and it always makes me wonder.....are pants that hard to wear? All medical or physical disclaimers aside....they are just longer shorts :)

Honestly I think it has to do more with packing. Your in a warm environment, pants take up extra suitcase space. I get your point but if I fly to Miami for a week, there will be no long pants in my case. Its vacation in the heat and comfortable is the word.
