Our last cruise was on Voyager July 3 - 8 and we had the exact same experience.  MDR food was just "meh" while the specialty restaurants, promenade pizza, and windjammer were pretty good!
I too hope that RCI gets the MDR situation figured out sooner rather than later.

We were on the Voyager last October and the food wasn't bad.  We just got off of the Quantum and the MDR was bad.  Good service, bad food.
I think the new dining menu is a total bust. We did the same thing as @Weezie57 with the MDR.  We just went to the Windjammer after the first couple of nights.

Just returned from our cruise yesterday.  From leaving the terminal to getting in our car in the covered North Lot was less than 5 minutes.  Yes, it does cost more but it was worth it to have a hassle free get away after being on a cruise.

I don’t want to insinuate the food was horrible it was just kinda of blah.  Hope you have better luck.  The positive side was the pizza in Cafe Promenade was very good.

Just returned from a cruise on Voyager of the Seas.  We really enjoyed the cruising experience but were disappointed in the food.  Given we have only been on four cruises, 1 Princess-1 Disney-2 RCL, this was easily the worst food we have had.  Tried the MDR the first 2 nights but then elected to eat the remainder of our meals in the Windjammer.  Overall I can say the food was mediocre at best.  The exception was breakfast at the Windjammer where there were plenty of good options including an omelet station.  I only hope RCL improves this area of their experience before we cruise with them again.

Parked here last week, it's great!
Be careful when leaving though, they tried to double charge me and I had to show them my receipt from pre-paying.

Yep…that’s what I do. I have the one device package. I use both my Android phone and my iPad.
I switch between both devices multiple times a day. When I log in to one while my other device is online…it gives me the option to ‘Switch Devices’ so I don’t even have to log off the first one. Very easy and convenient. You use the same login and password. Just make sure the other person isn’t in the middle of something when you bump them off.😁

You will love it - we've been a few times and can't say enough great things.  I would recommend making reservations in advance especially if you would like to reserve one of the day beds.   The food, drinks and service are all amazing.  Have a great time!

In Cozumel all the beach clubs are pretty close to the port on the side with the calmer water. Honestly you can save a bunch of money by just taking a cab and paying at the door or online. People on my cruise were bummed because they paid for a full all inclusive day and then it rained. if you do your own thing you can stay as long as you want and then go shopping. I think all the beach clubs are nice but that one I think had a lagoon and some cool features.

After all the excellent advice here and tons of reviews and YouTube videos, we have decided to just do a little shopping in Costa Maya and go to Paradise Beach in Cozumel.  Can’t wait to go just 68 more days.
Again, thank you all for providing your insights.

chankanaab is a national park (or the equivalent of?) in cozumel and is beautiful. we did an excursion there, pre pandemic and went snorkeling and saw the dolphin show. not sure if this was the excursion sponsored by RCCL or my family elected to purchase the pass outside of the cruise planner -- but we had a good time.
that was years ago, so i can't speak to prices or the experience now -- but from what i've seen here and there on the forums, everyone seems to have a great time. 😎

Costa Maya is an odd port to do much.  The actual terminal is good and has an ok swimming pool area close to the ship, but excursions are limited.  Mayan ruins are probably the most popular excursion.  Beach access is nonexistent at the pier itself, but you can go to the beach in town.  The beach is lined with restaurants and bars which you will have to buy something at if you want a seat on the beach.  Shopping at Costa Maya is not too exciting either but can be fun if you just want to walk around a little.
Cozumel is by far better in my opinion on both beach quality and shopping variety.

Since you mentioned one night I am going to assume you are not going to have a lot of time to take in what Houston and the surrounding area have to offer.  If you are just flying in the day before, I would recommend flying into Hobby as IAH can easily be 45 minutes to an hour, depending on traffic, further away from Galveston.  Then I would get transportation to Galveston and stay on the Strand.  The Strand is unique and in my opinion a good option if you don’t have much time.

Beach club in Cozumel.  Shopping along the strip in the little village in Costa Maya with a stop at the Crazy Lobster for food & drinks.

The Cozumel beach clubs are all next door to each other and a 15 minute cab ride from the port. The beaches are perfection and I can personally speak for the service being top notch level at Paradise beach club as well as Nachi Cocum. You can’t go wrong with either. Cozumel also has “the most spectacular diving and snorkeling in the world” according to Jacques Cousteau (I’m pretty sure this guy knew a good spot when he saw one).

I would say in Cozumel it's very easy to do your own thing, be it beach or shopping or both in the same day. Cabs or even renting a car/scooter/dune buggy. The beaches on the "wild side" are beautiful and we enjoyed the less touristy vibe there. (Rougher surf though) I have not been to CM, but my relative was just there and it's a more rural area and I would think you might find more call for having some sort of organized excursion there.  She did a combo of cenotes and a mayan ruin tour through a local vendor.
