markm got a reaction from FireFishII in Medical care aboard ship
Does anyone know if they charge to see the doctor aboard ship and how much? Did a cruise awhile back on the Oasis of the Sea, my left leg was swelling and I felt bad but blamed it on the heat. I didn't seek medical attention, blew off my symptoms thinking seeing the doctor would be very expensive. Lucky made it home and was hospitalized with four DVTs and a pulmonary embolism

markm got a reaction from cruisellama in US Dollars to Euros
I found it much better to purchase Euros thru my local bank here in the US. Then last evening of cruise I used what I had left to pay my shipboard charges . We did a 7 day cruise departing rom the UK (pounds) one day in Germany, two days in the Netherlands (2 ports) and two days in France. We changed $500.00 in Euros prior to leaving and had around $375.00 left

markm reacted to Traveler in Vaccination required?
Very simple ,
if the vaccine is 95% effective and we have 8000 people on Oasis Ship it means 400 people may be under risk of being infected ...
Now the questions will be , lets say its not a big number that one person did not took the vaccine , are you suggesting the cruise ships will have quota on each cruise for people with out vaccine ? if yes what are the numbers ? how you defined who is allowed and who is not ?

Already today there are countries that ask you to get vaccine before you can enter. For example , if you traveled to Brazil and you want to enter India after (and not just India) they can ask you to show proof that you got yellow fever vaccine otherwise they can ask you to be quarantine.

When you consider that cruises won't be starting until the 2nd quarter of next year in all likelihood, the vaccine should be widely available. If the cruise lines want to keep Covid out of the ships, or if the CDC wants to keep it out of the ships, this makes sense. As someone mentioned above, maybe the flu shot too.

markm got a reaction from Va4fam in Choice of Camera for Photos and videos
Just did a cruise with iPhone X ,Osmo Moble 3, DLSR and Osmo Pocket. all worked great, of course bests pic were with DLSR. I used the DLSR and iPhone the most. Osmo pocket is great but strongly suggest you practice a lot with it before hand. other expenses to consider with the Osmo pocket are Wheel, Extension rod and lenses

markm got a reaction from 12thman in Need recommendation for hotel in London England
Just did a cruise out of Southampton 3 weeks ago.
Flying into Heathrow is very very easy now, zero wait time. As of last summer US residents can now just scan their passports upon arrival. check out the videos at Heathrow international airport.
Check out the "London. Tool Kit" it will give you ideas about transportation.
Be ready to do a lot of walking and climbing stairs in London.
We stayed at the Grosvenor Victoria Hotel, very nice and well located hotel (4 star). As mentioned by others hotels are much smaller than in the US and not very old people or handicap friendly. Staff at the hotel is excellent and will be happy to help with bags or anything else. The hotel has and entrance in to the Victoria Train Station so you don't even have to go outside. Victoria Coach station (Bus) is a three block walk.
We used International Friends for a 3 night post cruise tour pkg
Disembarkation in Southampton couldn't be easer, Walk off, grab your bags and walk out. no customs or border control. don't know if that will change with Brexit.

markm got a reaction from Carlos A. in Can I use my sea pass card instead of the cup on the drink package
Recently on the Explorer off the Seas. Their drink cup order did not come in so the gave us some really cheap disposable cups (unsatisfactory) Cut the chip out of the bottom and used it with regular glass, worked fine however freestyle machines were down half the time. Easy to use your sea pass card at any bar

markm reacted to WAAAYTOOO in I'm Speechless !!
I certainly understand the passengers’ frustration with all the port changes and cancellations but I wonder how these same passengers would have reacted if the Captain had made a different decision and there had been an accident due to the weather conditions. Like it or not, the Captain did what he did to protect the passengers and his ship.
If there had been an incident resulting from bad weather conditions, these same passengers, along with the ones who did NOT “riot”, would have reacted even more strongly AND the Captain would have been liable for real.

markm reacted to WAAAYTOOO in Has anyone had a cabin here?
Actually, those aft cabins are highly prized. I think you scored a winner ! Yes, there is superstructure that blocks some of the views but in most cases (all, if I am not mistaken), the balconies on those aft rooms are giant. I think you may have a stumbled onto a real bonus.

I’ve never had or used a Royal Caribbean app. I always bring printed copies of everything.

markm reacted to WAAAYTOOO in The Key and Main dining room
No. The Key has nothing to do with MDR dining. The Key gives you a special lunch on embarkation day and breakfast on disembarkation day.

markm reacted to WAAAYTOOO in Internet package Buy it before on on board?
That is correct. The D+ discount is only good when purchased onboard. You cannot combine your D+ discount and a cruise planner discount.
Sometimes it’s cheaper to purchase pre-cruise through the cruise planner than to wait to get onboard and use your D+ discount. The price for one of my upcoming cruises was discounted 45% pre-cruise and my D+ discount is 30% so I purchased it ahead of time.
Obviously if you’re using the 2 free days, that has to be done onboard.

markm reacted to Clear Laker in Extension cords or power outlets?
Since the banning of extension cords and power bars and with the hope of avoiding one of Royal's '25 Orange Extension Cords I have done the following:
- For my CPAP I bought a 15' cord to replace the standard 6' cord that goes from the outlet to the power transformer block . You can buy them on Amazon as they are the same cords used for TVs and some computers.
- I bought a 220v plug adapter with USB ports. This allow for an additional plug at the desk for dual voltage devices as well as 2 spots for charging phone, tablets etc.
- Lastly, I went to the hardware store and bought an old fashioned 1 to 3 square block 110v adapter.
These days as most things are USB powered … having 5 standard outlets and 2 USB outlets is all we need. Total investment was less than $20.
