  1. I see in the photos that some cabins seem to have balconies that front not onto the ocean, but overlook the "Central Park" area on the Brilliant. How can I tell which cabins those are, so that I don't book one by mistake? I want to see the ocean from my balcony.
  2. Keeping in mind what SpeedNoodles said about her door decorations being swiped, I ordered a magnet with our wedding photo on it (Zazzle.com about $5), figuring no one would have any need for it. My husband said, "There, anyone who steals that will just have to be happy for the rest of their lives!" Which pleased me very much.
  3. Has anyone tried this non-RCCL, non TA, private family-owned tour company? (http://www.cozumelcruiseexcursions.NET) They offer a 5-6 hour tour, will provide a driver, "guarantee" we won't miss the ship (although a refund of the tour price wouldn't make up for missing the ship!!) and will let us plan our own tour. If you have tried them, I'd like to know whether you were pleased with them. Thanks.
  4. It sounds great! I'm printing out a map to the place and will ask our jeep tour guide to take us there!
  5. Thank you for wonderful advice! Is the Park Cafe complimentary? I always say that the best two parts of any vacation are the planning of it and the remembering of it. Maybe I left out what comes in the middle because I've never taken a cruise, before. This time I think I'll love the actual trip, too. But I am loving the planning!
  6. Is WJ open for lunch on embarkation day, or does complimentary dining begin with dinner on that first day? I'm sailing on the Brilliance.
  7. My husband only likes the coffee he makes fresh just before consuming, so he'll miss his coffee pot on the cruise. I like only lattes from speciality shops, but we're determined to survive for these 5 days/4 nights without spending extra money. Although maybe I'll get one latte . . . . . does RC give everyone some on-board credit? Or is that only through the booking agent . . . .?
  8. Is the coffee from Room Service any good? How about WJ? Or do you need to go to the Cafe for good coffee? (I'm talking free, here, don't want to spend extra.)
  9. Hi, in our house, I love silence but my hubby loves to have the news on all day, so I bought him a "marriage saver," i.e. a wireless headset so that he can listen to the news and I don't have to. The base plugs into the audio output jack on the tv set and he walks around with the headset on. The result: harmony. Is there an audio output on the tv in the stateroom, and can we bring a wireless headset with jack onboard?
  10. Thanks for all this info, it's very helpful!!
  11. Is WJ open 24 hours? If not, when does it close?
  12. Oh, wow, it's so complicated! I think I'll just be grateful that I managed to get a good (quiet, midships, w. visibility) cabin at a good price, and enjoy the cruise. Thanks for that info.
  13. Your responses are very helpful, thank you. From what I can see, the prices for my April 2020 cruise are going UP, and I scored a good deal booking when I did (a year in advance). This question is more tricky, and it's actually three questions: How far does the price have to drop before I might wangle an upgrade to a junior suite, and do I want a junior suite, and how do I go about requesting one?
  14. I wonder if (hope!) someone can explain this to me: A balcony stateroom on my cruise is listed on the RC website as costing "from $500." I select the cruise, the place on the ship (amidships), the deck (8), and the cabin (class 2D) and lo and behold, the price before the subtraction of BOGO and the addition of taxes and fees comes out to $1650! Then the BOGO is subtracted and the taxes added and the cost is $1215 for 2 people. So how can I monitor the prices if "$500" really means $1215? Do I need to go through the whole selection every time I want to check the price? Or just look at the $500 to see if it goes up or down? And what pushes the price from $500 pp to $1650? Thank you in advance, I hope someone will respond. I'm totally new at this.
  15. Thank you, Melski94 and Matt. This helps. If there's a next time, I'll go through MEI. I hadn't been aware of them until you told me.
  16. You veteran cruisers, do you book through RCI or a local travel agent or an online booking agency? This being my first time, I went through Cruises Only (online) and I don't know whether that was the best way to go. The cabin selection seemed awfully scarce for so far in advance.
  17. SpeedNoodles said, "Yes, she's correct. I'm pretty sure that our bed on Ovation will be against the forward wall, and I'm kind of bummed. I shall survive, but if I find it to be the other way I will be VERY happy." (I hope I'll figure out how to respond to a particular comment within a thread.) I never even THOUGHT of which way my bed would be facing!! I assumed it would be facing the balcony, but I guess it's either going to be taking me forward (I hope!) or backward, in which case I hope I can adjust. O heck, I'll just adjust!
  18. All this feedback and advice has been so helpful! I have a stateroom that I think will be perfect, on the starboard side, and I'm reading all I can about cruising. When I was younger, my first husband and I, and our children when they were little, cruised on a 30' sailboat that was heavenly when the waters were calm but pretty bumpy when the seas made up . . . but on a nice day, I found the sea so restful. This is going to be MY "cruise of a lifetime," just 2 days/4 nights at sea, and 1 day in Cozumel (I love Mexico and hope Cozumel is not too overrun with tourists . . . I've booked a private driver to take us away from the bustle of the port), and now all I need to do is remain well enough to go. We live only an hour's drive from Tampa, so it will be the easiest trip possible. Or who knows, I may get "bitten" by the cruising bug and immediately start planning a next cruise!!!
  19. Thank you all for your reassurance that I can enjoy my cruise! I've booked a balcony stateroom amidships on Deck 8, which has only staterooms above, below, and alongside, and is a bit of a distance from the centrum. Although it is on the smoking side of the ship, the open areas are at least two decks below and three decks above, so I'm hoping people congregating will be far enough away from my balcony. But if you advise me to try to change my cabin to one on the other side, I'll pick up the phone and make that call!
  20. I see that Brilliance of the Seas offers room service at no cost . . . . does that mean that delivery to the stateroom has no cost, but the food does? Or is the food also included in the price we paid for the stateroom? (First time cruiser, as you can tell . . . . )
  21. Hi, I am an 82 year old woman with compromised health, and the last thing on my bucket list that I am still able to consider doing is going on a cruise, which I have never done but always wanted to do. I've booked a balcony stateroom on the Brilliance for 2 days at sea and one day in Cozumel, in order to fulfill my dream of being on a calm sea and meditating on the horizon. But all the reviews I read are all about the partying, the jockeying, the smoke, the rushing, the shopping – and I wonder, will I be able to relax and enjoy the peace and quiet on my balcony? Will there BE any peace and quiet? Will I be able to take a quiet stroll on deck at night? Enjoy the peace of a hot tub, relax in a sauna, without feeling crammed by dozens of other people jockeying for the same space, and making a lot of noise? Please be honest. Thank you.
