wstephensi reacted to MorganH in Can I get a list of Ships with Easter Mass planned?
Thanks for the good info as my husband is an Episcopal priest (former Catholic priest) and says Mass for our family when we cruise. I will have him post something on the boards as we would welcome anyone that wanted to join.

wstephensi reacted to Chili in Australia/NZ Cruising News
We only have 2 Quantum’s in Australia and I think those kind cruises are a thing of the past.
The incoming carbon emission laws would make it unlikely .

wstephensi reacted to Traveling Mike in Ship/Port time differences
I always turn on airplane mode as soon as I get on the ship. I then switch off the auto time zone and make sure the time matches what is on the RCL App for ship time. Each port I double check my set time with the app ship time.
Warning: The ship time can be different than the local time. Alway make sure you know ship time.

Royal has been booking so well they haven't needed to offer any discounts such as state, age, etc.

Looks like a load test this morning. Very few cruises offered at very high prices. I do not believe the complete list has uploaded yet.

wstephensi got a reaction from Bob Burd in Bank of America RC Visa - using points
I find the easiest way is to go to your BoA web site and click on the View MyCruise Points button below your reward points total. That will take you to a new BoA page that displays your point total. Beside that total is a Redeem MyCruise Points button. Pressing that will take you to a new web site that has your redemption choices.

Agree. We did the land tour first for just that reason.

My MIL booked the family for 10 days with Royal..3day land followed by 7 day cruise. She said the land portion would be exhausting and the cruise would be our break. I’m so glad she booked it like this. The land portion does take a lot out of you.

wstephensi got a reaction from WAAAYTOOO in Alaska Land Tours
Did three day Land Tour through RC in 2017. We arrived a day early in Fairbanks taking the kids to North Pole, AK and the Museum of the North. We joined our tour group that night and the next day toured the gold dredge and took the optional river tour. I was impressed with both and felt I got my monies worth. Next day was glass domed train to Denali and we took the optional long bus tour of Denali. Again worth the dollars spent. Third day was the long bus drive to Sewerd with a stop for lunch in Anchorage. A travel day really.
Pros I was impressed with the production value of the gold dredge and river tour. The glass domed train was great with drink service, tour guide, and fresh cooked breakfast. Denali long tour was long, but worth it. The Hotel in Fairbanks was nice and fun in a local tourist way. If staying in a suite you get double points for the land portion as well. Guide and driver were great.
Cons The long bus tour in Denali is long. You do lots of stops. They give you a snack box, but you will miss a meal or possible two so eat first or bring something to eat. This is a school bus not a motorcoach. Our hotel rooms in Denali were not very clean and had a noticeable unevenness to the floor slightly less than a carnival fun house.
I would recommend and felt we got our monies worth. Next time I will plan our own with less motorcoach and more glass dome train.

wstephensi reacted to bobroo in Vision Class and Radiance Class
Let's not forget the Radiance class have gas turbine engines. They are environmentally friendly and have almost zero wake. These are important traits for sailing to places like Alaska, Montenegro, New Orleans, and Norway--just to name a few. They also do not have that shudder other ships have from time to time.
My guess is Radiance ships stick around long, long past other classes because of their usefulness. And, if Royal would ever commission another small sized vessel, it will have similar turbines and have a lot of size and weight similarities to Brilliance, Jewel, Serenade, and Radiance.

wstephensi reacted to CrznTxn in How often do they paint the exterior of the ships?
In Galveston for Allure they have been painting on the ship's exterior on the dock side on our last two sailings. They have a motorized lift that the crew were using to get to the high places. It has looked really good lately. They were also varnishing some of the railings during the trip. Standard ongoing maintenance.

My foggy memory tells me they are always cleaning rust and painting some ware on the ship.

Less desirable location is a relative term. As long as I am on the ship there is no undesirable location.?

wstephensi reacted to asquared17 in CoCo Cay Beach Club
just to throw a wrench in the works 😅 in our experience, we've always made reservations for lunch upon arrival. we usually are off the ship within the first 30 mins or so and we walk directly there. we've never had an issue.
to be fair, we always want front row beach seats, and we tend to steer clear of the pool (as gorgeous as it is) -- and we've always gotten great seats. i am picky about this 😂 so it means a lot to me.
also save yourself -- you won't need to pack beach towels, as the beach club supplies them -- yet another fabulous perk!
we are almost always the last people to leave the club at the end of the day and it is just as serene and tranquil as when we first arrived. 💚
