They are on the MDR menus now, one entree per night... and I agree, love the Indian food on the ships.

Going on my first RC cruise next week (wow it's nice to finally be able to say "next week").  It is my understanding that the portions in the MDR are smaller than one might usually expect.  And that you can, and should, order multiple apps, entrees, desserts, etc.
My question is should you order everything all at once when first placing your order, or do you wait until after finishing up a certain course before you say "I would also like ..."?
I know I saw on the YouTube live chat not to order more than you can eat.  So that is why I am not sure what the propper etiquette is for when to order more than just 1 app or 1 entree (especially apps as there are quite a few that look nice!).
If it makes a difference, we have an early sitting time.

What could possibly go wrong with the combination of the DBP and axe throwing on a sailing (bouncing and moving) cruise ship? 🤣

Funny, I just took this survey but did not get served these questions since I didn’t say I went to Sorrento’s on the last ship I sailed (because there wasn’t one). I was interested in the section about them possibly adding Cuban, Thai, Chinese or Indian restaurants though! 😋

Weirdest question I saw and just came to the forums about was them possibly offering axe throwing on ships in the future! whaaat?
It was a survey asking what type of cabins you book/why and what restaurants you go to and there was a list asking what food types I would want to see in the future.

One thing to think about is what kind of fuel would a smaller ship use ?
If Royal was going to go to the expense of developing a new class of ship ,for service in 30 years time,it wouldn’t be a ship that burns dirty oil .
At the moment the cleanest fuel is LNG and from what I believe it takes up a lot of room to store it . A smaller ship that runs on LNG would be down on cabin space and paying passengers. So I don’t think it would be economical.
Wasn’t Icon originally supposed to have a hydrogen fuel cell ?
That didn’t seem to happen ,maybe it might with Discovery class.

The gas tank on an Oasis-class ship is about 5000 cubic meters. An Olympic-size swimming pool is about 2500 cubic meters. If the reactor takes up about the same space as the engines would, this might open up some possibilities for more bars and restaurants. Hooray!
The LNG tanks on Icon weigh 300 tons each and are 90 feet long. Just think of what you could do with the extra space!

The problem I see is the difference in lifespan between the reactor and the rest of the ship. The USS Nimitz is fifty years old.

It's very unlikely to be a problem. Someone at check-in may have to spend a few seconds manually overriding the system when it squeals but that should be it.
I almost always get this because, cultural thing, being married to Portuguese husband I have two surnames but my account with Royal was set up years ago using just the last one. I think the longest it ever took to sort it was about 5 minutes and that was only because the person checking us in was new and had to ask for help because they didn't know how to deal with it.

"With transits capped, the canal authority advised shipowners to reserve slots for crossings, which soon meant they would have to go for an ‘auction’ of slots, but these consistently exceed $350,000, according to one report."

Cruise ships already use reservations but now they are limiting 20 ship transits per day for the original locks and there is talk of reservation auctions going for an additional $350k or more.
It's raises some uncertainty for a passenger ship.   If other shipping is willing to pay their way before a cruise ship its hard to offer scheduled passenger trips if they can't be certain when they will get in queue to go through.
They would need to double port fees which are already steep.

The Canal has been limiting the largest container ships due to drought.   I'm assuming the Canal is preserving water as we head into a El Niño swing.    They probably don't want cruise ships and running tourists through what amounts to a disaster for Panama isn't a good look.

I found that thread over on the social media page about the Kayak cancellation. Someone asked if it was because of "timing" and that that particular excursion set for 1:15 just minutes after arrival?  So even on that thread confusion exists as to what's cancelled and what's not.
Hoping we can get some real info pertaining to that here. I had originally planned to do the blue bus. Then switched to taxi to the visitor center then hoof it to the falls.  Not sure if that can be done now????
I was up there about 20 years ago and we couldn't even turn toward Endicot due to mass calving, Icebergs and also flood issues . That trip we did a helicopter  up to the glacier that wasn't affected.

It was a glacial dam that broke, ie melting glacial water overflowed and brought the Mendenhall river waters up surging, destroying 3 buildings. This is a major reason I am visiting Alaska this year instead of next, the glaciers are melting rapidly already!
When do you sail @deep1? As of now my Mendenhall kayak is still on for Sep 15.

This has been our experience too.   Most recently, we changed the airport we’re flying into from Bologna to Venice and changed our arrival from one day early to three days early with no problem.   Back in 2021 we changed our flights to/from Nassau easily.

To be fair, I’m using words like our and we, but my wife makes the actual phone calls.   I’m not a phone person

What a nice day 5! We had a great breakfast at the WJ then grabbed a fancy coffee and hung out by the pool for a bit. The artist brought a few crafts along so we made a beaded bracelet and sketched a little before ordering a couple of very tasty and colorful frozen mocktails!
I bumped into my old high school buddy and his wife again and turns out he’s a finalist in the superstar karaoke contest! We’ll go cheer him on during the finals on day 8. How fun!
We took a nice nap then had a late lunch at WJ. We saved room for chops though!
Chops was great. We both had the shrimp cocktail to start. The artists had the wedge salad and I the Cesar. Then I had the bone-in ribeye and the artist had the NY strip. The steaks were perfect but mine was huge even after leaving room at lunch! It was so good I completely forgot to take a picture! The cheesecake was as good as the steak!
A very good end to a fantastic day at sea, I’d say. Tomorrow we’ll be in Nassau around 10 am.

Maybe just think of it as sharing the only available pool. Can't believe that some people think kids should swim in an outdoor pool when it's 50° out or not have any pool at all. The outdoor pool can be your quiet area when it's 50 degrees out.

Good morning! Day 5 already and it Looks like we’re going to have a beautiful sea day!
We ended up eating in the cabin last night. The MDR was just a bit too overwhelming for the artist and the windjammer had already closed by the time we got back to the cabin. Anxiety sucks, but room service was yummy and we had a lovely time together!
We have no plans today which is my preferred kind of schedule. Lol My work is nothing but deadlines so being able to NOT look at a clock is my favorite way to unwind and relax and one of the many reasons we like to book cruises with lots of sea days! 😉. There were a couple of activities that looked interesting so maybe we’ll check them out or we might just plant ourselves by a pool. We’ll keep you posted.

As soon as they were letting folks off the ship the skies opened up. It was quite the downpour. It had rained every time we’ve been here before so we had ponchos and umbrellas just in case. We had hoped since we remembered them it wouldn’t rain. 😜
We decided to just grab lunch and do a little shopping which turned out for the best since as we got back on to the ship, the lightning started and gave us a few good cracks. I thought I was recording but it doesn’t record if you don’t hit the record button. Maybe we’ll do the ferry to St. George instead of the beach tomorrow but we’ll see.
Anyway, we went the the Frog and Onion. I had the Cornish Pasty and the artist enjoyed the Chicken pot pie. Very yummy.
There is a  lazy but sweet black cat that hangs out at the Frog and Onion. We met him last year when we visited and as luck would have it, we met him again!
It was still raining as we made our way to the clock tower mall. We bought a few souvenirs for family and friends then stopped for ice cream on the way back to the ship.
Even though our plans changed a little we still had fun, rain and all.

    So…Day 3, we’re now caught up!

It’s Bermuda day! We decided to do the full breakfast on the balcony again. Another beautiful sunrise!
We wanted to conserve energy for our adventure in Bermuda so we are very lazily getting ready for our 1 pm arrival.

Our plan is to ferry to St. George for sightseeing and then make our way back down to Hamilton where we’ll have dinner at Flanigans. This is now a family custom for us. This is my 4th visit to Bermuda and the Artists 2nd and each time we have a meal at Flanigans. The food is amazing and the Guinness is perfection. After that, who knows?! We’ll just play it by ear.

Tomorrow will be our beach day. We brought snorkeling gear and will explore Horseshoe Bay and it’s connecting beaches a little further than we’ve done before.

    More to follow!
