Here's my position with Juneau apparently asking tourists not to use the bus to get to Mendenhall with the majority of people not following this stuff on Reddit. I would try to find another way to the glacier with the bus as a last resort. Knowing the Juneau is asking tourists to stay off the bus, them asking can lead to policy or route changes to discourage riders out to the visitor's center. With how high a priority visiting the glacier is for many, waiting till port to find alternative transportation to Mendenhall if the bus won't work will be too late. Keep the bus in mind, but don't stake a port day on it.

I don't know the cost of a taxi, but I would highly recommend that you try to hike out to the falls.  We did the whale watch and did a short hike to the lake near Mendenhall glacier, but I was wishing we had done one that hiked out to those falls.  It looked really worth it.

    1.  I can't speak to Taxis, but Seattle has the worst Uber/Lyft pickup system I have ever seen.
    2. There is a really great french pastry place called Le Panier at Pikes Place Market.  You will be up early with the 3 hour time change and it is not busy early.  All of the place at Pikes Place have long lines by lunch.
    3.  There are lots of hills in the Pikes Place area.  Plan accordingly if you are planning to walk.  The Market itself is way higher than the waterfront area.
    4.  The aquarium is not that big, but it was well done and worth it in my opinion.
    5.  You could consider checking your bags on the return flight and using the port check in available onboard the ship.  It may be worth the extra cost to check your bag - there is no extra cost beyond what the airline charges.

If you haven't already, you may want to look at my live blog of our cruise from a month ago.

In Seattle, the easiest way to get around is the Seattle Light Rail system (https://www.soundtransit.org/ride-with-us/stations/link-light-rail-stations) where you can get from the airport towards Pike's Place Market area (Leave from the SEA-TAC station and travel to the Westlake station - nearest station - just a few blocks walk to Pike's Place; about 38-40 minutes ride from the airport) for a cost of about $3 per person.  Trains leave every few minutes.
For other activities; you can take the Seattle Monorail ($3.50 per person each way) (https://www.seattlemonorail.com/) that starts from the Westlake center (adjacent to the light rail station) and travel to the "Seattle Center" area where the Seattle Space Needle is at (https://www.spaceneedle.com/). The Chihuly Garden and Glass (https://www.chihulygardenandglass.com/) is adjacent to the base of the Space Needle and is a neat place to go through.  There are some combo-tickets available for various activities in the area (http://seeitall.com/?site=sn).
Luggage is going to be the biggest issue to deal with.  When I travel and am overnighting in Seattle, I typically stay at a Hilton hotel (https://www.hilton.com/en/hotels/seaahhh-hilton-seattle-airport-and-conference-center/) literally right across the street from the airport (I walk from the airport towards the light rail station; go "through" the station and walk over the pedestrian bridge; take the elevator down to street level, and walk one block to the hotel).  See map on this link: https://www.soundtransit.org/ride-with-us/stops-stations/seatac-airport-station.  You can have the hotel hold your bags after checkout if you stay there.  I don't have any experience with any other baggage holding services, so won't be any help there...
Just a few ideas and suggestions to think about!

Yes you can preorder some food on Alaska. You can only do this after you purchase your ticket and I believe it has to be within 10 or 14 days of your departure. I just flew from LAX to FLL a few months ago on Alaskan and this was absolutely an option.

Fun fact. Alaska was the first airline to offer online ticket sales, check in and boarding pass printing.

Where I was supposed to get refunds they gave me fcc. Where I was supposed to get FCC I got refunded in tiny dribs and drabs installments so small I didn't even know they had been made. Had to go line by line on two years of statements on 4 cards to find that they did refund but at like $24- $135 at a time!
Recently they refunded a FCC which i didn't request and they had applied elsewhere. They caught their mistake quick but instead of cancelling that transaction they drew funds from a cruise paid in full leaving me a balance that they didn't let me know I had to pay back. They had indeed sent me money and didn't "steal" anything but, If I hadn't caught it out of the corner of my eye They would have cancelled my cruise and kept thousands! I always pay in full when I book, so there would have been any reason to check my balance. I happened to see "Pay remaining balance" without "You don't have a balance" under it.

    Hi there,
First time cruiser and will be on the ship with my husband and toddler. A bit nervous but trying my best to prepare by watching a bunch of stuff and get advise.
Watched the youtube and was recommended to chat here to make friends but I saw that our sail date didn't have a roll call so I created one.

I've run with it several times purchased at or near internet alone prices. I have yet to have a glitch with it and have made the most out of the benefits each time.  I don't feel the need for full on suite type pampering but I enjoy walking past long lines and treated a little bit special. Fiancé is very much the fan of it as well.  I should have reached Diamond status by now but C+A lost 14 years and 40 points apparently permanently as we never were able to locate most of the missing stuff. The key makes me feel better than how C+A treated me. I have been "Gold" twice, "Platinum" twice and will soon be "Emerald" for the second time. Til I reach "Diamond or above" I'll at least have the key to make me feel a little more than 3rd class steerage ballast...  😄

I've done the key multiple times. Each time has been an abbreviated version of the chops menu.  I get the filet each time and gf  gets the fish. I enjoyed all the lunches and the royal treatment and most of all getting past the lines that can and do get really long at boarding and leaving time.

    Hi, deep1,
I have never cruised to Juneau but used to visit the city on business three times a year for twenty years for business. I visited Mendenhall every trip. Take the taxi. It is about 14-15 miles and twenty - twenty-five minutes each way. Rental cars can be expensive in Alaska.

I read a review like this and I scratch my head. I have yet to see these horrid things??? I have yet to have a bad meal. The service I have seen is second to none. I haven't seen kids over running the Solarium though I was there and somebody was messaging on Facebook that they were.  Few things I can see in the op as what I have experienced. On land "telephone" service is an abomination to anything resembling orderly or professional. I fix that issue by repeated calls until I find a rep who's well versed in whatever I need help with. I do agree that Costa Maya seems to be a "cause we need somewhere to go port. Its quickly remedied by a quick$8 taxi ride to the beach where you can enjoy food, shopping, massages and even buy really good quality hammocks. Roatan is perhaps my favorite stop. For $70 you can get a personal car and driver for pretty much the whole day. We  did sloths and monkey tours. Snorkeled, went to two zip lines,  had a guy carve us a wooden hummingbird, went to a rum factory, went to a chocolate factory, had lunch that had two tails. Good enough that we have booked to go again. $78 investment turns noting into life time of memories.
On the spa , I concur. Destroyed my fiance's hair. Dyeing it black instead of highlighting her blond. $300 to fix when we got home. So that we agree on. Sorry if i seem insensitive but I can't see getting twisted over cupcakes (unless I had set it up for my grand kids).
The OP here sure seems upset. A shame.  Perhaps they should try staying in a hotel that doesn't offer any changes of scenery, doesn't feed you, doesn't entertain you, and costs twice what a cruise does? Might jostle things back into perspective?

I was hoping this was just another rumor myth. I guess its not. I feel bad for those who got shifted but both Ketchikan and Icy are pretty good.  Getting mad at RCL wont help. It wasn't them that left a monster boulder on a compromised hillside above the dock that could drop any second. They have other docks in town but Quantum is just too big for them. While this whole thing sucks better to be safe...

Been following this on social media. Seems Skagway Visitor center is saying no Quantum to people who have called. One set of cruise ship docking reports shows no Quantum. Then you have Cruisemapper saying "Yes Quantum is going to be in town as scheduled. Then Royal says they are going or "maybe"? I remind y'all that a week or two ago Juneau vanished off the RCL radar. Wasn't showing on itineraries, cruise planner, or anywhere. It popped back a few days later like nothing happened. I hope this one does too. Skagway is neat little town and I know people want to go badly. Many based their reservations on it.

We specifically booked the Quantum 7-night sailing June 12th due to the Skagway stop.  My son was pushing for the week before, but Skagway, with the train and all is too much fun to miss and the prior week did not have it as a port stop.
I hope this is just an unfounded rumor.
