MicDay got a reaction from Jim the Titan in La Spezia private tour company to Florence
I’ll be in La Spezia (Allure of the Seas) in May 13th this year
I’ve booked a Florence & Pisa tour through Joe Banana Limos and Travel they also pick up at La Spezia.
Like Tuggboat i haven't been yet.
When we get back I can give you my opinion
They have really great reviews and they are very responsive to all the emails i've sent (questions that popped up)

MicDay reacted to Dannyboy72 in 1st Timer Cruiser View - Please don't judge!
    All,
As a first timer cruiser I thought I would add my views / advice for newbies as there was some stuff which I didn't get or things I didn't expect. These are my views and I'm sure others will have different views so please don't judge me!
We travelled as family on the 18th Aug on Adventure
I'll start with the bad stuff:
Chair Hogs - just annoying. I rise early and I saw people at 7am just laying towels and not returning for hours. Just felt this was a little rude to others
Lack of time in some ports - we had just a couple of hours in San Juan and felt we could do with a little more time. I get that we booked this and should have understood but as a family we like to explore and felt we didn't or couldn't as we needed to get back on board.
Windjammer - Breakfast was just a free for all and was busy all the time. Getting a seat was a pain and we would walk around to get a table,
Food - For me, the waste is incredible, people just stacking plates and plates full of food as if it's it never going to be served again.  I saw one kid with a plate of 10 donuts, I just hope he was sharing them as it was just crazy. I also felt guilty when we arrived in Haiti as we are sitting there having pancakes and bacon looking at one of the poorest countries - just me being a little globally conscious.
Kids Clubs - The Opitx or the younger one neither looked very inviting. The staff weren't engaging and it looked very dated. The teenage one just looked like a free for all and my 12 year old was not really comfortable with it, I do think 12 to 17 is kind of an aged gap.  The staff were the most uphelpful on the boat but quite some way!
Sea Days - I've said we like to explore - we had a 4 sea days and I felt that was too many for us as family. I did think that the sea days would be a great chance to relax but we felt a little bored and a bit trapped - strange really as there was stuff going on but we either didn't make it or didn't want to leave our pool beds!
Activities - A lot of the activities seem to last just 45 mins and by the time you get in to what is happening it then ends. This was a little odd but assuming you get used to it.
Beer Choice - just me I suspect on this one but it's just the standard beers and I like IPAs or something different and the only place I could this in the pub but then I would miss out on some other activity somewhere else whilst getting a beer.
Dress Code - just pointless.  I saw people on Dress to Impress in shorts and flip flops.  Either have it or don't.....
Wifi - Don't bother! Slow and drops out. Leave your phone in the safe with flight mode on.

    The Good Stuff:
Food and Service – just excellent. The Main Dining room was excellent with a great range of foods with our servers (Glen and Hubert) being just amazing. The food in the Windjammer was also very good indeed.  You won’t go hungry and if you do then you have something wrong with you.
Lots to do – there was loads on with some activities over lapping making it hard to do everything you want. My advice is scan the QR code for the planner as the apps isn’t as good.
Relaxing – At times I did nothing. And that’s great as I have a very full life so anytime I get to sit and read a book is time well spent.
Sea Ports – Although I did think we could spend a little more time in certain ports, I do also think it’s a good chance to see ports and countries you wouldn’t go back to for a week’s holiday.
Bed – I’ve never slept so well. Every night I was out like a light and slept so heavy. It was either the motion of the boat or the just because I was very relaxed.
Safe – I felt with safe on the boat, not just with covid but with other passengers. My kids (9 and 12) felt ok walking around on their own and liked the adventure of exploring the ship.
Drinks – Although I think it’s expensive, the drink package was excellent and saved so much effort when we went to the bars. Nothing was too much trouble for the bar staff and would make any drink you asked for. Service again, tops!
Flow Rider – loads of fun and well worth trying!
Labadee –Some people have concerns around Labadee with it being a little older than CoCo  Cay but I thought it was excellent, the beach was in very clean, the food was very good. The kids loved it and so did I.  The local market is a little pushy but not too bad.
Balcony Cabin – we stayed in 9622 which was a spacious balcony on a hump (I think that’s the term). Very clean, good size for 4 of us to sleep. The Stateroom attendant was excellent and I loved that he put the sofa bed up and down at night. The only issue was the shower went hot and cold at times but not really an issue.
Formal Night – This was great as most people dressed up (apart from the swim wear and flip flops!) and the Dress to Impress night seemed more dressy than formal night.  I think it’s night to dress up and sit as family and enjoy a good meal.
The Staff / Crew – they make it. I don’t have a bad word to say about the crew, each one had a smile on their face and was willing to help all the time even when they are very busy. The main dining room staff were amazing with nothing being too much trouble.

I would say that I will cruise again but I will research more on the ports and the sea days so we aren’t all at sea as a family!  Royal, I thought as a company seemed to be excellent and I would consider booking again in t future but I do thing that I might need to try another cruise company to compare as others on the cruise did say that P&O and Carnival were better.
If you haven’t cruised before, like me, try it, it’s great but accept that it's a flying visit to ports on what is a five star Vegas type floating hotel.

MicDay reacted to not easy being green in Covid Refund ~ Royal Caribbean
Back a few months ago we were going to take a cruise with pre tour to Alaska. This is our experience and hopefully this helps you just in case.  The pre-tour started in Alaska, and the ship sailed from Alaska and ended up in Canada.
RC testing policy is always changing, and this is still ongoing. Our trip was a pre-tour of Alaska, then boarding the ship, thanks to Covid this was a three-year process.  We did test before we left and we all were negative, however a few days before the pre-tour the Covid test for this part of the trip were no longer required.  We had the test scheduled and wanted to make sure that this trip would happen. Great news is we were all negative.
The pre-tour started, and we left from Anchorage, we then were going to tour around different parts of Alaska, two days before boarding we went back to Anchorage, where everyone on our bus went to the convention center to be tested before the (to me) the actual trip would begin/boarding the ship. At the convention center in Anchorage, you could do your own proctored test or use the services offered in the center at your own expense.  To our dismay, one of us tested positive for Covid with the proctored test, and we made the decision to have the test redone using the service at the convention center, as sometimes you get a false positive. Unfortunately, at that point they again tested positive for Covid, and we were informed that our trip had come to an end.   The tour people gave us a sheet that explained a few things about policies and next steps. They (tour group) said they would let RC know about us and our group, however, that DID NOT HAPPEN. If this happens to you, you must call RC, they will know you did not show up for boarding, they, however, will not know the reason and that can lead to missed chances of getting a refund.
We recommend that you us this number:  800 256 6649 option 4. I would not call the loyalty line or any other line; this line is what you should call for Covid issues and this is what we were told.  This line was answered very quickly, and they were very helpful explaining steps with us. We explained the situation and they started the process.  A suggestion is to write down everyone’s name who you speak with.  Sometimes notes do NOT get carried over to the next time you call. In about a week or so we were refunded all the paid-for items on the cruise (Internet, drink, dining packages, and any tours).  They also said they would start the process of the refund for the actual ship and the few days we missed on the pre tour.

We had to stay several days in Anchorage because of the quarantine issue.   One of the other issues was flights getting back home, because the original flights were from Canada and not USA.  For a hefty change fee, we were able to change the flights.  RC at this time will do a “refund” up to a certain amount for hotel and food.  Save your receipts for everything, this is on you for this part. This is on the sheet below.
With the published guidance from RC, the refund should take about 45 days and due to the high volume of calls it may take longer.  We called after 45 days, and was on the phone for about two hours, during this call we were transferred twice.  No resolution and/or refund in process.  Day 60 same as before; day 70 after being transferred to a resolution specialist, I was getting nowhere and I asked to speak to a supervisor. They told me that this was as “high” as I could go in the company, I said then, “So you are the owner of RC?” and they hung up on me. Yes I was being slightly sarcastic; lesson learned. I tried to not lose it but I did that day.  Day 90, I called, they did have most of the notes, was transferred again a few times and they then said it would happen, and the reason why the delay was the amount of money (we had a two-bedroom suite).  Another few weeks went by with nothing again, and we were going to call again and surprise! we were refunded all except a few hundred (we think) and for now that is tabled.
We are still very loyal to RC and we are looking forward to the next few cruises we have planned.  Also now with the refund, we can pay off the next cruise in full.  Before I forget, all the funds were returned to a credit card, and no future cruise credit although we did use some FCC when paying off this cruise.
Lastly, use a travel agent, for 20 years of travel I was our unofficial TA, and never again! Let them have “fun” on the phone.

    Who shouldn't do self-assist?
Parties with children and folks who can't manage their own luggage are candidates not to self-assist debark.
Older couple where one of them can't manage the luggage and personal belongings for example.  I see this every time.  Man zooming along while wife struggles with beach bag wrapped around luggage with purse and bag of shopping acquisitions that keeps falling off requiring that she stops every 20 feet while husband now 30 feet away glares back in annoyance.  Younger version of couple adds a coffee in one hand while talking on cell phone with the other.  Oddly they get offended when you try to overtake them despite them stopping every few feet to reset everything.  It's a race dammit, and they are not going to lose to you.

It says if I hear/see no notification by then my bid has been unsuccessful. I think they are holding it in case a passenger/family can't make the sailing last minute which I truly don't wish on anyone.

MicDay reacted to MattG in 5-person family trip on Oasis of the Seas - 9 October 2022
Hi everyone! We're off on another family adventure, this time on Oasis. It's me (mid-30s M), Dear Wife (mid-30s F), and our three kids (6F, 4F, and 2M). This is a sequel to our December 2021 trip on Anthem, and something i've been looking forward to since that trip (being honest - i've been looking forward to this trip before we even embarked on Anthem!)
There are some things that will be the same from that trip:
same family same departure port (Bayonne, NJ) same itinerary (Sea Day, Port Canaveral, Nassau, Coco Cay, 2 Sea Days). But there's a lot more that will be different:
Better wrangle of COVID: COVID was a burden for us last December - getting tests, testing in the terminal, everyone wearing masks, etc. They were all necessary steps, and I wouldn't have changed a thing. However, with vaccines now being available for kids under 5, everyone will be fully vaccinated by the time we cruise. We can't be more excited to have them "in the bubble" with us and be considered part of the fully vaccinated members on the ship. Also, we're definitely taking @Matt's advice and bringing a handful of COVID tests with us!
Oasis-class (from Quantum-class): On Anthem, I felt like we disembarked having done everything we could have done on that ship. COVID knocked out a lot of family activities, which came back throughout this spring based on the Cruise Compasses that have come out from Anthem. Every time I think about kids activies on Oasis, I lose track! I'm really excited for there to always be something to do (Ultimate Abyss, Splashaway Bay, Adventure Ocean, Merry-Go-Round, more pools)
Dining: On Anthem, our goal was to fully embrace the Windjammer and MDR for meals. We also really liked the consistency and structure of both venues when it came to routine with the kids. Our serving staff in MDR on Anthem were, without a doubt, the best part of the entire cruise. As parents, they made our lives as painless as possible. From a food perspective, Windjammer and MDR were good, but not great or mind-blowing. At the time, UDP on Anthem was $220/person, and specialty dining wasn't in the cards. Once we booked Oasis and I got into the Cruise Planner, I saw UDP for $167/day. With 150CP and Chops going for $60+, convincing DW that $24/day for specialty dining was easy, especially with the increased variety on Oasis.
Stateroom: On Anthem, we also had our nanny (20F), so we did two connecting interior staterooms. They were gorgeous and gave us room to spread out. By the time we cruise on Oasis, our nanny will have moved on, so it's just the 5 of us. When I browsed the Oasis deckplans, I saw some 5+ rooms, including Central Park Balcony rooms. It was break-even in cost to switch from 2x interior to 1x CP balcony, so we made the switch. We're very curious to see 1) how the 5 of us cope being in one room, and 2) how the balcony changes the dynamic of the room.
Price: Our price for 2 interior staterooms on Anthem (after taxes, before grats) for 3 adults and 3 kids was $3,228. On Oasis, our 5-person CP Balcony started at $4,471, but with several price drops, promos, and Kids Sail Free, our total on Final Payment Date was $2,332. Unbelievable. Endless thanks and praise to @Sharlaat MEI Travel for making this happen, and for putting up with my incessant requests to re-check pricing 🙂 Thank you, Sharla!

    Our Goals on Oasis:
Truly embrace specialty dining: having our fill of WJ and MDR, we're going the polar opposite direction and going HAM on specialty dining thanks to UDP. Probably not the smartest idea, but we're doing it for SCIENCE!
Escape room: I'm a huge space nerd, and can't wait to check out the Apollo 18 escape room
Stress less about activities, especially for the kids: on Anthem, I felt like I had to always be planning the "next thing" for the kids. I don't feel I need to do that on Oasis, there's always some place to go or something new to check out.
See Aqua80s: I'm an 80s/90s kid, i've heard this show is fantastic.
Avoid Cats (maybe): Not sure if this will be possible, our kids loved all the mainstage shows on Anthem. Who knows, maybe i'll like it...
Embrace the uniqueness of Oasis: Splashaway Bay, water slides, Ultimate Abyss, super-tall rock wall (20% taller than Anthem), Central Park & the Boardwalk, etc

Had to arrive home a tiny bit earlier than expected - was taking a train at 1130 today however there is a heatwave in the UK which is going to cause significant train disruption so got the last train tonight from King's Cross to Edinburgh and Uber to Glasgow.
Will be starting the full trip report soon of Barcelona and the cruise on the Wonder. I'll happily add in bits of the France trip after if you like.

I'm Joe from Glasgow, Scotland 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 and this is my comeback to cruising! I might be familiar to some of you since I was on here quite a lot around 2018/19. At that point, cruising was basically a hobby, even when not on a ship, I was very immersed in the industry. Around the end of 2019, I decided to cut back on my social media and forum use and then COVID hit so I've barely even been here for the past 2.5 years.
So what has happened to me? Well, I've moved out on my own for the first time and have gone through three years of college. My life has moved on a lot since I was last on a ship, it's kinda crazy to think about it. But it's great to finally come back again.
This cruise is a 7 night Western Mediterranean cruise from Barcelona 🇪🇸 on the brand new Wonder of the Seas. We'll be calling at Palma 🇪🇸, Marseilles 🇫🇷, La Spezia 🇮🇹, Civitavecchia 🇮🇹, Naples 🇮🇹 and a day at sea back to Barcelona.
We'll be flying out from Edinburgh Airport around 6am 😬 on Friday morning. Fingers crossed it all goes well, it is a bit early for me plus there have been rumours of airlines striking (we're going on Ryanair).
Going to give this live blogging thing a go. Can't guarantee pictures until I return home but I'm hoping to use it as a way to practice my writing above all else. Might also talk about the post-cruise segments in France and England, basically taking the train all the way back from Barcelona to Scotland.
One thing I can guarantee is no politics, no news, no current affairs. I'm passionate about all of those things as I study politics but I'm taking this as an official news-free week. I need it after everything that has gone on since my last proper vacation.
    Let's get cruising! 🙂

I took a last minute solo cruise on the Odyssey last year and I guess I gambled enough to get a comp inside cabin on the Grandeur. I discovered the option while researching for a friend of mine.  Luckily they had a date that worked for me.  I was in the middle of a project but it was expected to end in June.  I booked it and started making plans.   The next week the project end date moved to July 17 with the cruise leaving on the 27th.  Still within time frame but not much room for error.  Then the end date was pushed out to the 24th.  Now I am sweating a little bit but I went ahead with planning but not buying anything not refundable.   Well the important parts of the project is now done and what is scheduled for the 24th will not affect my vacation.
I have now bought parking and have started scheduling my excursions.  Which is easy as I plan on diving at both stops.  Cozumel will be with my normal dive company that I use for my diving trips.  Costa Maya on the other hand will be brand new to me.  Found one with decent reviews and was able to answer all my questions so I should be set.
I never thought I would want to go on a smaller ship again but a comp cruise is a comp cruise.  I have a interior cabin but the location is perfect for me so I passed on trying to upgrade this time and location is much more important to me than a balcony.  I ended up buying the Key when it went on sale and was only $5 more than the internet package by itself.  I'm a bit fan of shows so I'm hoping the seating benefit will be worth at least that.  I did choose to pass on the drink package this time as I know I will not use much on the port days and I can bring 2 bottles of wine for myself.  Along with a small OBC I figure I will be set and not worry about a big bar bill.  I hope I'm not wrong.
With the Grandeur not having all the extra dining venues I decided I will give the MDR another shot.  My first 2 RCL cruises were a bit of a disappointment in the food department outside the pay venues.  I did however book one night at Chops which I really enjoyed in October.
After 4 overnight weekends in the last 5 I am really looking forward to getting away.  I got a new laptop so I'm hoping the internet is decent on the ship and I can keep this updated.
    Thanks for reading.

    Embarkation Day
I drove to Houston Tuesday night to get a head start. Left my friends house at around 8am. I had a 10:30 check-in and ended up very early. Parked at Lighthouse Parking and they took me straight over. I had bought the Key for this trip so was seated outside the terminal in that area since I was too early and terminal hadn't opened.
I have never experienced a boarding process this efficient. They had people helping at all parts of the process. The Key probably bought me 5 minutes of time but it seemed no one had any delays getting on. Easily the best boarding I've ever had.
I bought the Key because the cost was $5 more than just internet which I need for work so pretty much the rest of the perks were just gravy. The embarkation lunch was very good and the carry on drop-off was very nice and they were in my cabin when it became available.
I was very tired and took a nap as soon as it opened up. Turned out to be a mistake. I was supposed to have early dining which showed on Cruise Planner. However I was given My Time. Which I don't mind but all the 6-7 time slots were full for the week. Minor inconvenience but I can live with 7:30.
Dinner the first night was solid. Probably the best MDR meal I've had in 3 Royal cruises. Hope the rest are that good. Comedian was fun. Did a PG show and had fun with audience.
Tried room service and had wings and grilled cheese sandwich. Wings lacked sauce but had a really good taste. Will order again. The sandwich was a cheese  sandwich but not grilled. Will not order again. Turned out they are still honoring free room service for the Key. Did not expect that but it was a nice perk.
    Day 2 so far
Woke up before alarm. Having an inside cabin threw me off a bit being so dark but not too bad.
I'm going to have a hard time with the shower this week. It seemed small this morning.
Had breakfast in MDR. It wasn't too bad. Will do again. Still haven't been to Windjammer and doubt I will. Maybe just to check it out.
Had our first Slot Pull this morning. 19 participants. Only lost a total of $25.  All but 1 person voted to carry it over and do a second on Sunday. Going to use Wheel of Fortune Sunday.
I have reservations at Chops tonight and judging by the filet I had for lunch yesterday I should really enjoy tonight. Then I have the production show after.
Next 2 days will be Mexico ports. Plan on diving both. That is really what I've been looking forward to the most.
Overall so far the cruise has met my expectations. Just a few minor blips that have been quickly resolved. Cabin is perfect for me with exception of shower. I wish Royal offered a mobility impared cabin that was made for people like me who don't need a full ADA cabin just a few modifications to assist. I just know I don't want to take a full ADA cabin for my minor disability.
Staff has been good. Ship is older but clean.  So far so good.
    Thanks for reading.

I second the numerous high-end/brand name stores. I've never seen people in them often and I personally don't look at cruising as an opportunity to buy super expensive jewelry that could get lost or damaged on my trip. And even if I did, I'd just want to use the ports....every port has numerous shops....
I'd love more mid-priced stores or RC branded stores. Like...it's a mall feel in the promenade...give me a shoe store, an electronics store, a cinnabon/auntie annes, heck..I'd even take one of those airport convenience stores...a Hudson News. lol

I would have no problem with cleaning once a day.  Make my bed, give me fresh towels, fill my ice bucket and then bye-bye until tomorrow.
The lack of daily service in hotels is a BIG pet peeve of mine.  I acknowledge that there are supply chain issues which could limit the availability of products but I am highly suspicious of the claimed unprecedented shortage of labor.  Of course I realize that during the plague and immediately afterwards, there were labor shortages but now ?  I believe it is truly more that the hotels are trying to KEEP their labor minimized to save money and use the "pandemic" as an excuse.  The same goes for many other industries.  Many industries did this to themselves with the ridiculous vax requirements (airlines...I'm looking at you !) which have been a spectacular failure and have done nothing but hurt their businesses/ [military] readiness.
But regarding cruising, I have no problem with only daily service.  I don't really want the room attendants popping in arbitrarily anyway.  I usually just keep the "sleeping it off" sign posted after my room has been serviced in the AM.
