  1. So I know that Jamaica isn’t a great port and we were planning on staying in the guarded area. However, due to not now being able to go to Labadee, and being replaced with sea day, we are now looking to possibly get off the ship. We only have two port stops, Nassau and Jamaica. In NASA, we are doing the pearl island and snorkel. I was thinking about the Hilton Rose Hall all day and inclusive. I see that is much cheaper through resort for a day. I know if you don’t go through Royal Caribbean, you risk being late for the ship leaving. Anyone ever use an outside day pass to go? Should I pay more to go through Royal Caribbean. Anyone go on this excursion at all with any reviews that would be willing to share? Anyone go on any different excursions? That would be willing to share?
  2. The map shows artisan Market, Showcase and Village. Which is the one to avoid? I do want to get some souvenirs and I saw on video to avoid the pushy vendors but there is a store that has things that is ok. We reserved a day bed in Adrenalin beach I believe. I see there is a bar and I am guessing food somewhere close as well, cafe I think. Is that a buffet place? Are there jellyfish at all here, I was stung in Coco Cay. Any other tips, hints. Thanks!!
  3. Decent sale on internet. My question, which I am sure has been answered but I couldn't finds it... If I do internet 1 person 1 device, both myself and my husband can use if we share the password and only one device at a time? We sailed in Sept and I didn't realize this if true and we just did one device and he was stuck without phone for the cruise because I didn't want to pay the larger bill of one person two device or two person one device. Hope the question makes sense.
  4. Anyone do the excursion with trip transfer from port to LAX? Seeing hollywood etc.? Says your flght needs to leave after 5:00, looking at flights that leave 4:20pm. Are they super strict about that, do you think it would be plenty of time still? I think it would be a great way to get to airport and see some sights on the trip there.
  5. For ease we just use the rental car. It is usually 6.95 and then tolls. Which this last time were 1.05. The most I think we have been charged is 12.95 total. I don't think that is very expensive like others have mentioned. It does take about a month or 6 weeks to get the charges on your credit card.
  6. We sailed on Mariner in Dec. Someone at the Port was directing us upon entry asking if we had expedited arrival. I wasn't sure and we opened our app and sure enough it said we did. We went in that line. If someone hadn't been asking we would have totally missed it. We then walked pass the ipad that scanned our face, spoke with a RCC lady that asked for us by name, went through security and upstairs. Once upstairs we again luckily found the signs that said expedited and after the gal checked our app walked through the large section of empty chairs and right onboard.
  7. Waiting for transport to port. Mariner here we come!!! Will try to do a blog after we return!
  8. Thinking about walking ourselves to the John Watkin's Distillery. Any idea if it is a mild, easy walk? Best directions to get there? I won't have phone for directions on me. Does anyone know if the run is cheaper there or same price as the liquor store closer to the port. Just don't want to lug glass rum bottles for a long distance if we can get the same thing at one of the shops right by the ship. Also, any cool places to drink/eat. Anywhere else to visit other than straw market? Plan is to get off ship early and be back on ship for lunch. Thanks!
  9. Hello, I thought someone had posted an email to request a table with out other guests, but I cannot find it. We are sailing on Monday! YIPEE. I am a bit self conscious about eating so wanted to get a table for just us. Also, Monday is my birthday! YEAH! Anything special they do (dessert or anything else outside of dining on the ship when it is your birthday).
  10. Love packing cubes! Especially with kids! Every member of the family gets their own color. I have one empty for the dirty stuff. (who wants to try and remember which pair of blue unders is clean or dirty!) I love having undergarments in one, swim stuff in another, shoes in one, dress clothes in another, etc. I also love the ones that have the mesh (breathable) outside, that way if we put in some slightly damp swim suits or cover ups, they don't get musty or gross! Each of the kids got a drawer on the last cruise and it was great to just plunk the cube in the drawer! Lots less time looking for missing socks, etc. when packing to leave too!
  11. Have you every seen KISS bags. That is what I use to keep my things in. It stands for Keep your stuff safe. I have a beach bag size and it has a chain in it so you can close with a padlock and then chain it to the chair, umbrella, etc. I love having a home base and not having to put stuff in a locker or worry about leaving it unattended. I figure if someone is walking around with a bag attached to the lounger it would be pretty suspicious! I have used it for DCL, at Aquatica, Discovery Cove, beaches with chairs, even my local pool.
  12. I was very excited to see Matt's blog and description and photo's of lunch in the MDR as an alternative to WJ. The pasta station and Tutti Salad Bar look great. My question is, I thought Matt had said it was on Sea days only, but for my Dec. cruise when I look at the app it has it listed on our Coco Cay?? That doesn't seem right, I don't think there will be many people on board at lunch that day. Thoughts??
  13. We stayed at the Quality Inn in Cocoa Beach. Nothing fancy for sure, but it was only the evening before cruise. It was a 1-2 block walk to the beach. This made it very easy to walk over and we were lucky enough to be there for the SpaceX launch in May. Across the street was McDonalds, a Walgreens or CVS, Surf Shop right next door. Outdoor heated pool and hot tub. Also free breakfast (waffles, eggs, pastries, muffins, etc.). We spent most of the time walking the beach looking for shells, an hour or so in the pool/hot tub and then off to bed. We live in South Dakota so we spend as much time with our feet in the ocean as possible. It was an easy drive over to the port, I think they have a shuttle as well, but we had a rental car so not positive. In December we are arriving late (after 10:00pm) so we are staying at the Hyatt MCO and will travel to the Port the next morning. I hate spending the price they are asking for a bed to sleep in for 7 hours but know that we will be tired and not want to fight to get a shuttle/uber to a different hotel.
  14. We are sailing on the Mariner in Dec. It is a me and mom cruise. She has never cruised so we are doing MDR for most of it, but thought about a specialty night. What would you choose Izumi, Chops, or Jamie's??? Also, how does it work, I can't seem to figure out exactly what you get for the cost. One app, one entrée and desert? What if you want more of something like in the MDR? Thanks!
  15. This looks amazing. is there a specific floor for dining for this. Thanks for posting, I hadn't heard of the sea day lunch dining in MDR.
  16. Can you make the stir-fry/mongolian and take back to your room for later. This would be an excellent late night snack, even if it is cold from the fridge!!
  17. Yes! We even had issues when one parent was taking children to Canada and had to have a letter signed by the other parent to acknowledge that they were aware and approved. Also a good idea to have some sort of form for medical treatment and her insurance card. I send this with my children when they just spend the summer in a different state with Grandparents! All of this should be notarized. I will tell you that when we cruised with DCL that I also had to sign a waiver for my minor child to leave the ship with anyone other than the parent/guardian (even if with cruise staff).
  18. I am playing the pricing game as I had purchase pretty low for our cruise that Dorian cancelled. Now having to price for our rescheduled Dec. cruise. Right now it is BOGO 50%---61.00 pp. I know that there is no certainty, but it looks like the Black Friday sales in the past that Matt posted would be better. What is everyone's thoughts on the BOGO or just the straight 30% off? right now it is about 120.00 more than what I paid before. I am with those that just want the rate out the door....hate that we have to jump through hoops, but I am sure that they make lots of money of those who "don't shop around".
  19. Oh My! I looked at all of these menu's and they all sound so yummy! Thank You!
  20. Anyone have recommendations on places to eat in/around Cocoa Beach/Port Canaveral?? Love fresh seafood as we don't get it much in South Dakota! :)
  21. We were scheduled to set sail on Mariner on Sept. 2-6th. We were given and email that the trip would be shortened on Thursday 8/29. They gave us the option to sail and have pro rated refund or for a full refund via future cruise credit. We were traveling via air from Kansas (me driving from South Dakota to Kansas to meet my mother) and knew we were not going to be able to get flights into Florida on Sunday. We got "vouchers" from Southwest for airfare. We opted for FCC (future cruise credit). So far it has went really well. I had the credit send to my travel agent, my drink package and excursions were refunded to my cc on file 2 days later, just received the taxes and fees back to my cc on Friday. I was also able to have the MyVegas credit redemption switched from the cancelled cruise to the new cruise. The only thing we are out is the fee for travel insurance on the first cruise, and have to pay for it again on the second cruise. Not a big deal as, I understand you pay whether it is used or not and it is through a 3rd party. We have already re booked for December. The only thing I need to re do is the drink package. I need it to go on sale again, as they won't honor the price I purchased at for Sept. cruise.
  22. Yum! This is a great thread to follow! Thanks for sharing everyone. I am definitely up for the lava flow with kraken, dark & stormi and painkiller also sound great! Anything that is fruity or not too "alcohol" tasting is up my alley. Also, can you get Mimosa for breakfast in the WJ? My mom loves Collins (thanks for the infor on where those are) she also likes Guinness? any idea if they have those on tap in Playmakers? I have to watch for a sale on CP again as our cruise is now rebooked for December after Hurricane Dorian reared her ugly head. Current price is way high...hoping for a upcoming sale.
  23. So far things are going pretty well with our cancelled cruise this week. We have rebooked for Dec. 2019. Travel agent has applied FCC, just waiting to make sure I get my taxes/fees back on the cc. I also got the refund of drink package on my cc, but of course when I need to rebook, it is 300 higher total. I called to see if maybe by chance they would honor the package bought for cancelled cruise, since it was cancelled due to weather, but they said no... so I guess I just need to keep an eye out for Cruise Planner deals (but still might be out the good deal I got earlier). This is my only complaint so far as it would be nice if they honored the previously purchased price since it was not our fault to cancel.
